The Cleveland Buckeyes receive Rodrigo Bautista, Emmett Elliott, I.M. Foreman, Draft Pick - 2020 Round 2 (NYN) from the New York Bad Gnus in exchange for Satoshi Nagai.
When I first read through TR's list of available players, the pitching immediately sparked some interest. Several of our pitchers are seeing their skills begin to decline. In general, our team is becoming very old. The window of opportunity to win one more championship before we begin to rebuild is rapidly approaching.
Team management determined that an upgrade to to overall quality of the starting five pitchers was needed to provide us with that opportunity. The pitcher we most wanted to acquire was Satoshi Nagai.
Satoshi originally was drafted by our franchise. He spent some time in our minor league system before being traded to the Boston Brown Acid in the blockbuster trade that jump-started our playoff run. I hated to trade Satoshi, but the deal brought four-time Cy Young winner Juvenal Urbino and others to the Bad Gnus. For a decade, I have been looking for an opportunity to reacquire Satoshi. Now was the time to make a move.
The Gnus parted with some good, young outfield talent and a draft pick. The youth should help TR and the Buckeyes rebuild. Meanwhile, Satoshi is pitching for the Bad Gnus. Despite our slow start this season, I still believe we have a chance to make at least one more run at a ring with Satoshi in the rotation. Whether we win it all or not, Satoshi is in a Bad Gnus uniform and I am happy.

I posted Chuck's availability on the message board and the silence was deafening so I got proactive and offered him up to every team I thought might want him for a 3rd round pick.
Milwaukee actually accepted the deal but had no room and KC was in the same boat so Chuck is now a Rusty Nail.
Although Chuck is OS36 he's still A- overall but with so many kids on my roster I have to limit the veteran presence to those with higher mentor ratings than Chuck's B . He's still a solid player but if I wasn't going to use him then I might as well get something in return, even a 3rd .
We wish Chuck all the best in Chicago.

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Boston Pops. The Boston Pops receive David Wooderson from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for Paul "Opie" Griffin, Matt Valerio.
My hopes for this season were that my young team would play around .500 ball (which might still happen) but they are clearly performing better (so far). With that in mind the one hole in my line-up was C (especially vs. righties) so I've been shopping around for a veteran backstop to upgrade the position (over steady but unremarkable Matt Valerio). 2R accomodated me on this one and in exchange for this C upgrade I paid a former first round draftee who still has potential but wasn't going to crack my young OF (so he was expendable - Roosters, good luck with him!).

Wooderson is OS36 and while he will be fine this year I have no need for a top notch 36 year old catcher. Boston offered up Valerio, a fine mentor, and a RP prospect but I felt Bailey had more upside so countered and the deal was done.
I'm sorry to see Wooderson leave, as a former catcher myself I always try to have a top end backstop, he was arguably the 2nd best catcher in Buckeyes history, behind Lane Meyer, but moving forward I like Bailey's upside and Valerio's still respectable.
I wish Wooderson good luck with Boston .

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Baltimore Bay Dogs. The Baltimore Bay Dogs receive Takeshi Kovacs from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for Draft Pick - 2023 Round 1 (BAL), Draft Pick - 2023 Round 2 (BAL), Draft Pick - 2022 Round 2 (BAL), Draft Pick - 2021 Round 2 (BAL).
I really thought the purge was over after last season but here I am dealing Wooderson and Kovacs within days of each other a full season later .
I really wanted to keep Kovacs and have him retire as a Buckeye but when somebody offers up 4 draft picks, including a 1st round pick, for a declining asset on a team that is not winning it's just hard to pass up.
Kovacs was acquired way back in 2003, as I began breaking up my previous long playoff run, as a 17 year old prospect . Kovacs debuted in 2008 and was the American League Rookie of the Year and never looked back . Kovacs was an All Star in the OF 7 times, winning a gold glove and MVP in 2016 before transitioning to 2B last year and starting the All Star game there.
Kovacs leaves Cleveland with 2020 hits and a career average of .301, an OPS of .854 and 1202 runs scored.
Note - I dealt out one of the picks for Fred Wachtel in my next trade

This is what I like about system 3, after a while the minors start getting full of real prospects and teams have to make moves.
Boston had Wachtel, among others, listed as available for a 2nd round pick . Chuck offered me another reliever in a trade but I preferred Wachtel, and I have a lot of extra 2nd round picks, so I countered and the deal was done.
I give up Baltimore's 2nd round pick in the upcoming draft (29-32), a draft in which I already have 5 picks in the first 25, in return for a 22 year old B overall reliever so I think I got value. Boston clears some space in the minors and adds a pick so obviously he got what he wanted .
I don't think Wachtel will ever be a star but if he continues to improve he can make A- overall and be a useful bullpen arm.

Bottom line is I spread my future #1s out a bit more and picked up an extra 2nd round pick.

Runnells for a 2nd Round pick

Taking a quick look at my roster this season I realized that I had too many veteran bats so I offered up Tim Runnells, or Frank Pettey, to every contender.
Both these players are nice assets for teams with playoff aspirations, they are A- overall with high contact and both hit LHP very well.
Chilly was the first guy to accept my asking price of a 2nd round pick so he gets a reasonable bat to help him contend and I get a pick - win/win.

After receiving several offers for my 2024 1st round pick, which should be a decent one, I decided to target a pitcher as my team seemed to lack depth in the starting rotation. Pittsburgh has some solid veteran arms, so I sent an offer over. In getting Wilson, Baltimore gets a solid, healthy arm to anchor the back end of the rotation. This also allows Matt LeJohn to go back into the bullpen where he is way more effective. Did we overpay with a future first? Maybe, but I figure if you have a shot to get back into the World Series for a third straight year in the BoHo... you go for it.

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Pittsburgh Caledonians. The Pittsburgh Caledonians receive Mike "Sun" Flowers, Jim Holm from the Boston Pops in exchange for Jim Baez.
I have spent the past 7+ seasons trying to rebuild the Pops up from the depths of perennial doormat. Lot's of picks, lot's of prospects, and now lot's of hope in Beantown. I made a run last year but fell short in September as I stuck with my youth. This year I was hoping to truly challenge and so far ho-hum. I've been missing a big OF bat and made some offers for guys like Baez (as well as Baez) and Pittsburgh accepted. Gerry gets two decent prospects that weren't going to be able to make my team and I get (hopefully) a big bat. I know Baez is OS33 but his career .302 BA and .857 OPS were enticing and should make a difference (so far so good as I've won my first two games with Baez in the lineup).
I might still want to pick up a veteran starter to solidify my rotation but that's a different story for a different day...

A trade has been completed between the New York Bad Gnus and the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Brooklyn Dodgers receive Jung Keun Choi from the New York Bad Gnus in exchange for Jim Buckner, Henry Edelen.
--------------------------------------------
Well the impossible actually happened as I made a deal with the crosstown rivals and aquired a 28 year old 'A' rated pitcher. This will give my team a little ethnicity and another arm to use when guys get hurt. I'm unsure if this particular pitcher is worth 2 teenagers however for me in my current situation it's worth the risk as I try to play on top for a while here.
As a team playing near the top I feel you can never have too many 'good' pitchers and this guy will go into the closer role with current closer Bowcock going into the rotation.

Clearly, the Bad Gnus need youth. This exchange nets a couple of young prospects each of whom could develop into a solid, starting calibre player. Hopefully Buckner will develop into a very good shortstop who, with his excellent health, will play nearly every day. Edelen is a young starting pitcher with very good velocity for his age, but with erratic control. Bad Gnus management hopes that Edelen eventually will develop into a solid starter with excellent velocity and acceptable control. This pair adds two pieces to a puzzle that remains very incomplete.
The Dodgers add a quality closer who strengthens the bullpen. Choi may be the difference in the close games the Dodgers need to win during the regular season and in the playoffs.

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Baltimore Bay Dogs. The Baltimore Bay Dogs receive David Wooderson, Draft Pick - 2023 Round 1 (BOS) from the Boston Pops in exchange for Pudge Klieman.
I has no thoughts of trading Klieman, but Boston shot this offer over. Wooderson is playing in his final days, so I didn't make the trade for him, of course. (Though it will be an honor to have him wear the Bay Dog orange before he retires) The deal, to me, was really a late 1st round pick for an aging catcher. Klieman has been a rock for my team, but he never was an offensive force. I'll miss his health and defense, but the window of contention was small for this Baltimore team... might as well start tweaking now.

For a Right Fielder drafted in the 2nd round Wooderson's had a sweet career as a catcher .
He was an on base machine for the Buckeyes for a decade and solid behind the plate as well .

Ken added his thoughts - mine were simple. I've got a very good chance to be VERY competitive this season (ABE willing!) and hopefully the next few. My one big hole being Catcher (I had an aging Wooderson and a 30 year old backup...at the time of the trade both of them were hitting a combined .150). I'm always willing to trade a draft pick if it can help me compete and I believe once Klieman comes off the DL my lineup improves significantly (hell if he hits .225 that's a significant upgrade!) while adding an A+ arm, good health and mentoring. And at OS32 I get him for a few years before my catching prospects are really ready.
As always, time (and ABE) will tell.

Cinci posted Kuiper as available so I made an offer.
Kuiper's never going to be great, he's OS28 without a dominant skill and has low endurance, but he's better than some of what I've been running out there and frankly I hate losing as badly as we have been .
Guisto's a long shot due to contact but in time could make B-/A+ vs. RHP and he's got great health . I've got lots of 2nd round picks though giving up my own may bite me.
It's not a big deal but my rotation is better today than it was yesterday so we'll see.
Update - this deal was a disaster for me, Kuiper had a good season in 2023 but then was hit hard in 2024 and the early part of 2025 . I waived him in May of 2025 and CHA picked him up. Kuiper has pitched well this year in Chicago.
Guisto hasn't done anything in Cinci but the pick yielded Tomberlin who has a real chance to be a very good on base/top of the order type hitter .

I've had quite of few seasons of mediocre finishes and this season appeared to be heading down the same path. So I decided it is time to rebuild. I traded three talented vets for a 1st round pick and an average prospect. I think Milwaukee does very well with the trade, but I have vets who can fill in for the ones I've traded and young guys who need the innings, and who knows what the 1st round pick will bring?

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Baltimore Bay Dogs. The Baltimore Bay Dogs receive Duff "Beer" Carnett, Miguel Bierbauer from the Boston Pops in exchange for Jaime Meline.
Pretty simple reason for this...I add a BIG bat in a serious run for a title.
Meline started his career as a Boston Brown Acid bonus baby and had some great years for a declining Boston team before new Boston ownership shipped him to Baltimore in a 2015 trade as part of a major youth movement.
He comes home to Boston after making 7 All Star appearances with Baltimore (with 3 Gold Gloves to boot) and winning one title. Tho OS35, he is still putting up big numbers.
Meline was thrilled by the trade, stating "I'm a Bahston boy at heart, and though I loved my years in Baltimore, coming north to try and help my home town team win a title would be a dream come true"!

Well, in for a penny in for a pound. I really didn't think I needed to make this deal to make the playoffs (I hope I didn't just curse myself)...BUT I felt Dumont gives me one more dominant arm for a title run (and apparently Dumont liked his chances for a third ring, waiving his no-trade clause as the trade deadlne approached).
I gave up a former first round pick in Babcock...given my current team make-up he was never going to make the bigs as a Pops. He might get that chance with Baltimore.
Now I've got to see if I can overtake Hammy and his veteran team (I'd love to get home field advantage in the playoffs).

The Hamiltonians made this deal for one reason and one reason only: to win a WS championship within the next 3 seasons.
After being embarrassed in a sweep from Cincy in 2022, New York knew that something had to change to have any shot at a title in the near future. Reacher was our best asset, so we went for it.

Between my last two deals and the past amateur I've added three top end pitching prospects so hopefully things will start looking up.
