The Italian guy (don't remember who it was) seemed to intentionally run over the Australian in the box, then semi flopped. While he was on the ground, he repeatedly looked up at the ref as he acted hurt. I hate that the game was decided by a penalty when the game was just about to end. Argh. But the Australians had 11-10, so they should have been able to score before that. So its their own fault. Decent game, though.
That Ukraine-Switzerland game sucked, as was expected. The Swiss choked in penalties, but I guess thats what happens when you try to be perfectly neutral (I make that stupid joke every time I mention anything about Switzerland. I stink).
I despise that games this big get decided by a penalty shootout. Its largely a freaking guessing game, and it decides who advances in the biggest sporting event in the world (I don't like it in any situation, but especially the World Cup). Even hockey won't use it to decide playoff games.
Tomorrow should be better. France-Spain should be a very close matchup, and getting to watch Brazil is pretty much always fun. Hopefully Ghana puts up a good game.

Brazil made beating Ghana look easy... That Ukraine game was sad, Ukraine was playing for penalty kicks after the regulation time. I can only hope France doesn't do the fall thing to win.

I really thought the last Brazilian goal was hilarious. They were just kicking it around in their own half for a little after the Ghana red card until the fans started booing and chanting, then seemed to say "fuck it, we're Brazil, we're scoring", and passed it up to the midfield and put Ze Roberto in position to make a perfectly timed run for a good goal.
The France-Spain game was good, Spain managed to lose earlier than they should have again. Zidane scoring probably (I think they'll lose to Brazil and he won't score, but who knows) his last goal against the country where he's played since 2001 with Real Madrid was kind of cool.
The rest of this tournament should be awesome. Ukraine is the only team that doesn't really belong, but whatever. Portugal-England, Germany-Argentina, and France- Brazil are very good matchups. I'm predicting Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, and Italy to win. Portugal-Brazil and Italy-Argentina are very interesting matchups, and then I want to see Argentina-Brazil play in the final.

I watched too many games I need to chime in. I don't agree Cubsfan in general with your picks.
England has looked kinda bad in the past few games but Portugal hasn't looked stellar either. Im gonna go with England, I only hope that the talent will finally pull together which we glimpsed at in the previous round during the game vs portugal.
Germany and Argentina. I think Germany is playing the best game in the tournament other than Brazil. I think Argentina has kinda underperformed to what their talent is supposed to be.
I'd love to see France beat the favorites but how Brazil manhandled Ghana was simply amazing. France has scrapped its way to this point which is admirable but lets all say goodbye to Zidane. And remember that remarkable goal in the 91 minute vs Spain, before the creaming France is about to recieve at the hands of Brazil.
As for Italy they deserve to lose, that acting job in the goal area in the last minute of the previous round was rediculous but thats water under the bridge. They are going to seriously whoop upon Ukraine, no doubt.
Lets see who is right...

Honestly, I'm picking Portugal because I want to see Brazil play them in a battle for Portugeese speaking supremacy. With Deco, Costinha, and possibly Cristiano Ronaldo out they'll probably have a hard time against England. But still, England really hasn't looked good and I could see them losing to Portugal. So I don't really know who is going to win, and we're back to the Portugeese supremacy thing.
I don't think Germany has played anyone particularly good, and they're defense didn't do particularly well when tested against Costa Rica. Argentina massacred Serbia, and beat good Mexico and Ivory Coast teams. They didn't care when they played Holland, they were playing for a tie. I have them winning 2-1, with a possible late goal by Tevez off the bench.

man that dude from Brazil made the Ghana Goalkeeper break his own ankles and then fall down and turn to watch an easy goal.

Haha. Jobs stink. As I was watching one of the games, I actually started thinking of ways to get out of any potential job I may have in 2010 so I could watch games.
I
desperately need Fox Soccer Channel and Gol TV now. Seriously, I don't think I'll survive next year on only MLS and Mexican League games with an occasional champions league game. I need Direct TV. Fuck.

I had a job...
If it makes you feel any better in a month I'll be living in a third world country in central asia with people who speak russian, eat horse, and think fermented goats milk is a delicacy. And I won't be able to have mommy give me anymore mountain dew while I'm watching Shinji Ikari whine. Does that make you happy?

But that Germany/ Argentina game was interesting and it got quite heated in the end. Never seen players fight like that. The two teams looked very evenly matched. I really think the only reason the Germans won was because of their homecourt advantage.
This Ukraine/Italy match is a joke. Italy scored like in the 10 minute by a defender. Its not quite Ghana/Brazil but still pretty bad.

Argentina deserved to lose after trying to just hold on, but penalty kicks are still just..shit. They couldn't bug me more. They're exciting, but just a horrible way to decide a game. Argentina got screwed when they're goalkeeper got hurt and had to be replaced. Then they basically only had two subs, and wasted one on replacing Riquelme with Cambiosso. Putting Messi in would have allowed them to push forward more and not let Germany just continually attack until they scored.
The Italy game is pretty much over now, 2-0 Italy after a goal in the 59th minute on a perfect cross. Italy-Germany in the semis.

Yeah, Argentina losing their keeper was the ultimate double whammy. Not only are you down to your second string GK (not that he did a poor job, although he sucked at picking which way to dive in PKs) but you have just two field subs for what ended up being a two hour game.
Argentina absolutely dominated the field... that is, until they scored---from there on Germany was in command. I'm bummed, as my mom was born in Argentina, but I feel like they lost to the second toughest team in the tourney (after Brazil), so I cannot feel too bad. Plus the other side of my family is German. Meh, whatever.

It looks like someone who isn't too fond of Argentina rewrote the first part of their wikipedia entry. I don't blame them - those mimbos can go to hell.

Funny you mention that, I was considering using Lionel Messi for one of my next renames. I guess this settles it.

Haha, in one part he tries to say how Argentina didn't deserve to win because one player (Cruyf) was out, and then they didn't deserve to win because they only had one player (Maradona).
Anyway, you should use Messi. Make him not suck.

I'd rewrite it, but I'm far from qualified to write about Argentinian soccer.

Never mind, looks like someone already beat me to it. Now my post won't make any sense.
