Just like Carl Everett.

No, not like Carl. Ozzie is actually insightfull and intelligent in his interviews. Except for when he is ghastly offending the whole nations oh so sensetive sensiblities by calling Jay Mariotti of all people a fag.

I just asked the gay "life partner" friends I have in the building next to mine if the word "fag" offends them or their gay freinds. They said hell no, but the word offends their non gay friends. Go figure

There is so much more to be pissed off about on t.v other than what Ozzie says people. Lets start with Ann Coulter.

"He's a piece of shit. He's a fucker, that's what he is. He's another Venezuelan fucker. Fuck him. He has an enemy. Now he has a big one. He knows I can fuck him a lot of different ways. He better shut the fuck up and play for the Detroit Tigers."

"What a piece of shit he is, fucking fag.''

"Hey, everybody, this guy's a homosexual! He's a child molester!''

Insightful AND intelligent. I'd say he is a true American Patriot, but he apparently hasn't been in this country long enough to know all our silly rules of etiquette, so I guess I can't really call him an American.

Its about time someone came out and said it. Now we just need to get Jay thrown in jail for molestation.

Why do so many knuckleheads think that people who say everything they think are somehow noble? Why should I care what Ozzie Guillen thinks about anything at all? I don't care what he thinks, and I don't care that he says what he thinks.

But when he consistently verbally abuses people, and in particular uses loaded language, I think he should lose the rare privilege and honor of being a manager and franchise spokesperson.

As FG said, everyone else will agree as soon as the Sox start losing.

Talk about being a knucklehead, Max here didnt even realize all he had to do was change the channel and he didnt have to listen to Ozzie "the mouth" anymore :)

Irrelevant. Slurs are offensive whether or not I am forced, Alex DeLarge-style, to listen to them.

FG getting all bent out of shape because someone slips the f word? Give me a break, what have you done with the real furiousGiorge? Max I can understand, but you Furious? Say it aint so

And its not Irrelevant at all as far as not listening goes, if you know you dont like what he has to say, than do not listen. Its that simple. Some people like to piss others off because they know if they say something it will get them upset. Maybe that is what ozzy likes to do, and hey, its apparently working. Come back when he slips the "n" word than you and the rest of the country will have something to gripe about.

Lets get to the real issue here. Why is Mariotti still on t.v?

This is the point. There is no difference between these two things. Am I bent out of shape about Ozzie? No, because I already think he's a fairly despicable human being, and I'm positive he'll get his when the White Sox go into the shitter. I expect these sorts of things from him. What bothers me is that seemingly rational people are defending what he said. Take Jay Mariotti out of it. Everyone hates Mariotti. Ozzie is the manager of a major league ballclub, and he uses a slur for homosexuals to describe someone who we all pretty much know is a douchebag. How is using the term fag in a derogatory manner defensible?

It is a losing argument when the entire generation just coming out of high school use the term 'gay' to describe anything lame and useless.

Look, Ozzie Guillen is just a manager of a baseball team. If he was a U.S. Senator this would be much different, but he's not. I'm not at all offended by what he said because I've heard worse and it is about what I would expect from an ass like Guillen. His ignorance is his cross to bear, not mine...

Furious, I my opinion calling someone a nigger and calling someone a fag are two completely different things. Maybe thats just because I was the white kid on the all black bus up until highschool. I dont know, but you sort of learn to take on a whole new appreciation for what that word means to a whole race of people in this country when you have to face it every day.

And im not really defending saying the word "fag", but the backlash from it has gone way overboard here. He deserved a punishment for what he did, he got one (although it was a little too harsh)

Like Syco said in another thread, this is just a manager of a childs game not some senator or congressman. I think its safe to say we will all be okay if we dont burn ozzie at the stake just yet

**excellent point Syco, I couldnt walk three feet in High School without hearing someone call someone else gay, or a fag just because they were dumb or stupid. Not because of theyre sexual orientation.

In many ways hearing 'fag' is worse than 'nigger'...

In modern society, it is pretty much unheard of to hear any white people using that word in public. Certainly not around other black people. Gay people can look like anyone, so they often have to hear the very worst from bigots who think all gays are the poofs you see at the scary gay pride parades, rather than the normal everyday people they often are. This is also a form of hate that many religions sanction daily. It could feel like the world is against you...

They're the same. We don't use them in polite society, and we certainly don't use them as a derogatory term referring to someone else. I'm still not entirely sure what it is you're defending. Your entire entry into this discussion seems to be based on the fact that max and I took kinslow to the woodshed over his ridiculous notion that anyone should say anything they want at all times; you equate this with "a backlash that has gone overboard". The backlash has more to do with those who would defend Ozzie and less to do with what Ozzie said which, in the grand scheme of things, is inconsequential.

Max, maybe you should ask the hundreds of millions of African Americans througout the world to explain it to you.

I'll will give you a hint though, It might have something to do with hundreds of years of enslavement, beatings, killings, rapes, and countless other atrocities simply based on the color of skin.

Sorry, but this statement is just false. Calling someone a fag and calling someone a nigger is not even in the same ballpark.

You two must have zero black and gay friends.

Truly incredible. You would be stringing Ozzie up by his balls if he used the n-word, you think that using the word fag is not a big deal, and you base this opinion on a couple of black and gay people you happen to know. The fact that you can't see the similarities between the two words is mind-boggling. You've really surprised me with this.

5) Which incident do you find more troubling?

36.3% Guillen berates rookie pitcher in dugout for not hitting a batter

32.6% Neither is troubling

31.1% Guillen uses homophobic slur against newspaper columnist

Why would it be "interesting" that a totally unscientific Internet poll of meatheads who visit sports websites suggests that said meatheads have no firm opinion about this?

Last time I checked, THIS is a sports website, meathead.

Well first of all let me say I have quite a few black friends seeing as how I grew up in ghetto south Dallas, which has allowed me to truely understand the hate and anguish directed at the "n" word.

Plus I know my gay neighbors and all of their friends who who are telling me they are not offended by the "f" word ( that has to count for something yes? ). Mix into the pot 4 years of highschool of not being able to walk 3 feet without hearing someone call someone else gay or a fag for something not even based on sexual orientation. So yeah, im sorry if I dont quite place the two words on the same plateau

Once again, I have to give kinslow this much credit - he has the courage of his convictions. His notion that we should all be constantly calling each other names may be juvenile but at least it's consistent. Your defense of Ozzie, and your outrage over the n-word, is so unbelievably hypocritical. You base this on "your gay neighbors" - so presumably, the only people who are allowed to be offended by homophobic comments are homosexuals themselves. The rest of us should simply sit in silence over words that are clearly used in the pejorative sense (I imagine that you asked "the gay neighbors" whether or not they were offended by the term "fag" and not whether or not they were offended by that term when used as an insult) because it is impossible for a person to develop an independent thought about something that doesn't directly affect them.

Im sorry Furious, you are right. Saying the word "fag" is just as bad as saying the word "nigger". What other words are just as offensive as the "n" word so I will know not to say them too?

this thread amazes me, I will stop before Max turns me in for sensitivity training. I just don't offend easily and realize if someone calls me a fag, they are referring to me as a wimp. I can also understand that in todays society Ozzie crossed a huge line, though more staright people are offended by it than actual gays., which I believe tells you something. Please try to get the point
