Good decision Tyson. I think that the new Demote Preferences will take care of the "gobble" effect because the claiming team will need to make the decision of who will be demoted before putting in a claim.

They will have to decide it they really want this player on their major league team and who will that player replace. In addition the automatic demotion code will insure that teams will not have more than 25 players in the majors.

I predict that more optioned players will make it to the minors when the new code is implemented.

For example, in the JRL I have a terrible team, young guys, old guys, we suck. I have just grabbed 3 pitchers that had 4 claims each on them and got all of them. I did it because even though they were 30+, they were better than the other crappy guys I had. Is that fair?

Yes, it's totally fair. If you suck, then your team gets first shot at guys on waivers.

In one league I have an okay team...not a great team, but an okay team. I don't get many waiver claims. So guess what?

When I see a guy on waivers that I want, I U2U the other owner and propose a trade...sometimes a player, sometimes a pick...in exchange for the player on waivers. The owner withdraws waivers and we make a trade.

It's a win/win...he gets something in exchange for what was going to be nothing. I get a player I can use. That's how teams SHOULD have to do it if they don't want the lousy teams getting all the waiver players.

Yes, if your intent is to make your team more competitive. The other team(s) decided they could not use them and were setting them out to pasture.

no, it isn't fair. I am not the only crappy team, but I was THE crappiest to have put a claim in. When you get one, you go to the end of the line, that's how it should always work.

Except if you look at real baseball, that's NEVER how it's worked. Last place gets first shot at the waiver wire. Period.

So let it be written. So let it be done.

That is the way that it should work. In the JRL I put a good RP on waivers since I was building around my younger players. One manager placed a post that I should of put the player up for trade. I pulled the player back and ended up with a 2nd rd pic for him. I then traded some other veteran players for 1st rd pics ending up with 8 first rd pics in the amateur draft. The team is now much improved even though it is younger. The point is someone could of gotten the player for nothing. But since another manager didn't want to chance the claiming system I was able to get something for him that I normally wouldn't of. It made both teams better. The bad teams should have the first right to improve their team. At the same time those of us that don't have 24/7 access to a computer should have the same ability to claim players on waivers as everyone else in the league.

lvnwrth, it's not that way in baseball because of salaries, that's the ONLY reason. A lot of teams would have liked to have Larry Walker, but nobody had money for him. A lot of teams would have like to get Manny Ramirez, but nobody had money for him. Until we have salaries, this system should not be put in place.
