Thanks for answer on outfield defense. Do you have flyball distribution to outfielders anywhere? I assume the CF makes the most plays. However, I'd be curious as to whether the LF or RF makes more plays so I know where to put my weakest fielder.April 15, 2007 at 03:14PM View BBCode
Where can I go to see this beta season information? Is it viewable to all team owners?April 15, 2007 at 03:17PM View BBCode

Jim - I have data on that, but it's not in the sim yet. It's been a long time since i originally programmed this part of the sim, so I can't remember where the original numbers for this came from. I'll have to check the distributions.April 15, 2007 at 04:36PM View BBCode

Tyson, I'm noticing in the beta testing that there is a lot more minus than plus.
Maybe SD owners are just used to playing subpar defensive players?
Tyson, I think this improvement has the potential to be fantastic. Thanks.

Where can we find team defensive stats? Or is that just in beta right now?April 15, 2007 at 08:04PM View BBCode
Thanks Tyson, please let me know when you find it. I've been looking around the internet. Looks like LF handles more balls than RF but can't tell yet if that is related just to putouts on flyballs or also incorporates basehits.April 15, 2007 at 08:06PM View formatted

Thanks Bart. I am really looking forward to seeing how this affects thingsApril 16, 2007 at 03:25AM View BBCode
No questions; just a comment. I think these changes could make things even more exciting.April 16, 2007 at 06:19AM View BBCode
When do errors come into play for range. It should be done after the +/- is done since players with good range make occasional errors that bad fielders dont get too.April 16, 2007 at 11:19AM View BBCode

Jim - thanks to ScooterPie's suggestion, I've been working with Retrosheets MLB data and can run queries against a database I setup. So I can lookup this kind of stuff now based on real data. Just got it setup last week though, so it'll take some time to change all the little things I want to change/verify.April 16, 2007 at 07:30PM View BBCode
Maybe I missed it at the beginning of this thread, but is +/- mostly affected by infielder's range as compared with arm? Or are they averaged together to determine ability?April 16, 2007 at 08:38PM View BBCode
For C/2B/SS/3B, it will be a bit of both, but weighted more towards range.April 17, 2007 at 12:28AM View BBCode
Will you therefore weight improves with arm/range like you have contact/power to reflect importance to players?Originally posted by Admin

For OF & 1B it is nearly all range.

saltluver - I'm not sure I follow you. Arm & range are already bundled if that's what you mean.April 17, 2007 at 01:39PM View BBCode
One more wrinkle. OF Arm will play a part in changing some doubles into singles. I'm going to use that as a way to rebalance things because of the extra doubles added by poor 1B/3B defense.April 17, 2007 at 04:23PM View BBCode

We haven't changed anything with the out of position penalties. They will affect arm and range in the same way as before.April 17, 2007 at 04:50PM View BBCode
