I need quite a bit of quantity at the start of a long rebuild and like the depth of this draft. So I get a good pitching prospect and will get one of a group of pitchers I like at 9. Hopefully a deal that works out well for both teams.

Stanley for a 2nd round pick

December 11, 2012 at 08:28PM View BBCode

7/21/2051

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Cleveland Buckeyes. The Cleveland Buckeyes receive Draft Pick - 2053 Round 2 (BOS) from the Boston Pops in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9158320&statsorimps=imps]Barney "Rubble" Stanley[/url].

Barney Stanley is a 35 year old 2B having another great year and if we were contending this year I'd have kept him but it's late July and we are nine games adrift of a wild card, and in 5th place overall.

Boston offered a 3rd round pick for Stanley earlier this year but I haven't had great luck with 3rds so I rejected it, Stanley was also part of an offer I declined from CHA . Stanley is having a truly remarkable year with a slash of .328/.390/.537 but he's likely to decline more in the OS and I have to see what [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9847147]Guthrie[/url] can do so Barney's back in Boston.

I am scrambling to do all I can to avoid the loss penalties this OS. This has been a brutal year and I'm struggling to simply play > .333 ball. We are hoping that Stanley (who comes home to his original team) can help us achieve this VERY modest goal! More offers are coming as I think I need another piece or two to make this a reality.

Locke and #7 for #4

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Boston Pops. The Boston Pops receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10049105]George Locke[/url], Draft Pick - 2052 Round 1 (CLE) from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for Draft Pick - 2052 Round 1 (BOS). Protest This Trade.

After being rebuffed by Baltimore in my attempt to grab the #1 overall pick, I changed my focus to Boston's desire to move the #4 selection.

In truth while this draft is deep I see four guys I really like so I was willing to give up Locke, a reasonable SP prospect, for a shot at one of those four. Hopefully this works out for me, I'm getting close to contending so adding more top end prospects is a goal.

I have so many holes that having a chance to pick up two prospects for one was worth it. I believe I can get a top talent in the first 7 picks and by adding Locke I get a future starter (tho he will never be an Ace) so ok with backing down three spots.

A trade has been completed between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Brooklyn Gothams. The Brooklyn Gothams receive Draft Pick - 2052 Round 2 (LAN), Draft Pick - 2052 Round 1 (LAN) from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Draft Pick - 2052 Round 1 (BRO).

I really wanted Gromek and didn't want to take the chance he went 2nd. It is entirely possible I gave away a free top 20 pick (which should turn into something useful in this draft) but I like Gromek's chances of being a top of the rotation arm better than anyone else that could have landed at 3.

I was torn between two players, and figured by moving down one spot, I would not have to make a decision, and pick up a top 20 pick.

As it turns out, my pick at 2, George Butler, pitches 8 1-hit innings in hit debut, only to get injured for 37 days.

I love you too ABE.

Crouch for Clive

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Baltimore Bay Dogs. The Baltimore Bay Dogs receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9847146]Ed Clive[/url] from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9539660]Bob Crouch[/url].

We won 95 games last with a team ERA of 3.99 so I think we need to upgrade our pitching if we are going to move to the next level. Baltimore had Crouch listed on the trade block for awhile and we started discussions in September of last season. I like Crouch because his C+ endurance means he can start if required and I now have a deep bullpen so I'm hoping we can compete for the playoffs this season.

I tried hard to acquire both Crouch and [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=10251069]Sinatro[/url], offering Koz a package deal but he wouldn't budge so after the draft we resumed our pursuit of Crouch which ended up with the above deal.

Clive is maxed velocity, or possibly at 99, and needs to be in the majors which I couldn't afford to do while competing. If Clive makes A+/B then he's a very good #4, with high endurance and good health, if not then he's a #5.

I find myself flirting with the loss penalty yet again. So time to take corrective action early in the season. My pitching, particularly given the injuries I've suggered so far, is horrid (tho young...so I remain optimistic about the future).

But with some juggling of my rotation and this pick-up of Sanders I believe I should be able to win some games (at least 55 - which is NOTHING to write home about).

Hasegawa for a Prospect, a Pick, and a Veteran

6/6/2052

A trade has been completed between the New York Bad Gnus and the Philadelphia BullFrogs. The Philadelphia BullFrogs receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9085134]Bubba Kampouris[/url], [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10152614]Tom Dressen[/url], Draft Pick - 2053 Round 1 (NYN) from the New York Bad Gnus in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9598020]Billy Hasegawa[/url].

The Bad Gnus are aging, but we continue to be in the thick of the hunt for the title. Some of the veterans have lost a step or a little off the fast ball. Management felt we needed a boost. In Billy Hasegawa, the Gnus obtain a quality veteran who is healthy and durable. He has struggled for about one and one-third seasons, but he performed very well from 2048 through 2050. In fact, the 24-5 record, 2.77 ERA, and 1.06 WHIP he recorded in 2048 were outstanding. New York fans hope the addition of Hasegawa to the starting rotation will be accompanied by a return to the form he exhibited in those three seasons.

The BullFrogs receive a young starting pitcher, in Tom Dressen, and a first round pick in the upcoming amateur draft. The BullFrogs also receive Bubba Kampouris to start while youngsters in the Philadelphia system continue to develop.

A trade has been completed between the Texas Hamiltonians and the Brooklyn Gothams. Texas receives BRO's 1st round pick in 2053.

Well ... somebody had to do something, right? LOL

I really like this season's draft. I have 6 guys at the top who will be OS 18 next season, and I don't mind watching and waiting while they develop.

Toenes was the biggest sacrifice in the deal, but I do not think he will ever have the endurance to start regularly and I had a ton of young(ish) bullpen depth, so I figured that I would take my chances in the draft/lotto!

Lear will serve as a nice backup and defensive upgrade at catcher over [url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9598003]Brinkopt[/url]. I was considering starting Ellis at 3B, but this move will enable me to promote [url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9980601]Ciardi[/url] or [url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=10049063]Hudson[/url] to see what they can do. 10/13/52 - Vets for Picks

A trade has been completed between the Texas Hamiltonians and the Boston Pops. The Boston Pops receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9539643]Howard Cissell[/url], [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9726966]Lee Black,[/url] Draft Pick - 2053 Round 2 (TEX), Draft Pick - 2053 Round 1 (TEX) from the Texas Hamiltonians in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9487441]Mickey Kantlehner,[/url] [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9784356]Jack Barberi,[/url] Draft Pick - 2053 Round 1 (CHA).

I've been trying to move veteran SP Kantlehner for a few weeks and several team expressed interest and I believe a deal was close to being consummated. Then Hammy and I began a dialogue which expanded this deal to include more players/picks. When we agreed to make this year's picks the focus and Hammy offered the 4th pick I jumped in.

For the Pops getting two top 5 picks in this year's deep draft pool (I had the 5th and now have the 4th) gives me a great opportunity to accelerate my rebuild (and I still have 3 picks in the 2nd round). And I get roster filler in Cissell and Black who should help me remain "competitive" while I wait for "the kids to be all right"! As a rebuilding team Kantlehner was expendable. And my OF actually has plenty of young talent so I felt comfortable moving Barberi (who I expect to be a 20 HR, 90 RBI guy). And for Hammy also getting the 11th pick this year should yield a VERY good player (he also has the first overall pick).

As always, time will tell. But I look forward to this year's draft!

I don't like to trade pitching but this came down to the fact that my team can't win 50 games with him so why not trade him for a pick in a deep draft and a couple players who can hopefully help moving forward?

Kantlehner for a 2nd

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Texas Hamiltonians. The Texas Hamiltonians receive Draft Pick - 2053 Round 2 (BOS) from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9487441]Mickey Kantlehner[/url].

I pitched this deal to Boston before Kantlehner was dealt to Texas and so I figured I'd see if hammy liked the idea. I had an extra 2nd round pick in the draft and while I like the depth of the pool I also like to have major league pitching depth.

I'm not sure which Buckeyes team we'll see next year, the one that won 95 games in 2051 with a team OPS of .725 and an ERA under 4.00 or the 80 win team of 2052 with an OPS of .700 and an ERA of 4.33. My hope is we'll be closer to 2051 and if so an extra A- arm will come in handy. Kantlehner's not great but he's a solid #4, and with [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9426195]Cordova[/url] and [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9487352]Mackenzie[/url] both facing further declines and my desire to leave [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=10104433]Swift[/url] and possibly [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=10049065]Mattingly[/url] in AAA another year I needed a major league arm.

This is a deep draft so Texas should get a solid building block at #21 and I get 4-5 years of reasonable pitching in return. I think both team's needs are met, so win/win ?

"A trade has been completed between the Washington Wiseguys and the Chicago Guppies. The Chicago Guppies receive Draft Pick - 2055 Round 2 (CHN) from the Washington Wiseguys in exchange for Gus Castillo."

I've been open to moving former cy young winner Pete Snell in an attempt to improve my dwindling minor leagues, but its hard to find equal value for a cy young winner while you're competing. After some back and forth, Chicago's offer of Wheelock and Jolly paired with a first and either a second or Castillo was enough to sway me into moving two players that have been huge parts of the Wiseguys. Wheelock should be ready to start by the time Herman is getting too old, Jolly looks promising, and I pick up a first to either have a good foot in this years draft or move one for relief pitching, which I need now. Machado will take over at catcher, Stephenson moves back to third, and I will platoon first basemen situationally.

After coming in third for the last three years, we needed to make a move. I'd been back and forth with Washington for maybe a week or more. I needed a catcher, and I wanted some pitching depth. I had a lot of depth in OF prospects, so I was trying to move a few of them. I think Wheelock and Jolly will be very good players, but I'm not sure they'd have had a ton of opportunity here.

Cox and Murray for Bulgogi

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Brooklyn Gothams. The Brooklyn Gothams receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9426205]Rob Cox[/url], [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=10251102]Doug Murray[/url] from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9487393]Yumi Bulgogi[/url].

After last year's collapse it appears the the Buckeyes are back in the hunt this season, but I've been plagued by inconsistency in left field, where [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=9906411]Willie Cuesta[/url] has been given every chance to win the job and routinely failed so I looked at the trade desk for some outfield help, spied Bulgogi and the dance began. My initial offer was low and rejected with an optimistic counter, which I declined and countered with Murray and Cox and the deal was done.

Bulgogi has an OPS just shy of .800 over the past six full years and absolutely kills left handed pitching so he'll be a nice addition, although he may be a short solution with decline coming after this season. Murray was a 2nd round pick in 2052 and has improved well but at OS23 wasn't in my upper echelon of prospects so I felt he was expendable, and while Cox has performed well the addition of Bulgogi would make Cox pretty redundant so I sent him to Brooklyn where he might help them a bit.

This isn't a major deal but it gives me some depth and gives Brooklyn a veteran bat and a mid level prospect for a soon to be declining asset who had been "on the block" for over two years.

A trade has been completed between the Atlanta Crackers and the Philadelphia BullFrogs. With the moves made to help their teams made by NYN and Chicago... Atlanta felt we had to do something (and I had felt that even before the season started) to help the pitching staff. Darling gives the Crackers a little more depth in the bullpen, especially with a low health Hooten as a major factor back there. Giving up Harkness wasn't exactly what I wanted to do, but he his age made him unlikely to be used during this run and his low endurance took away some of his value. I hope he works out for Philly and Darling helps the Crackers make it back to the promise land.

You all may notice a trade of 2nd round DP's between Boston and Brooklyn. It's a agreement related to the below trade earlier this season where we both agreed that if at the end of the season Boston's 2nd round pick was higher than Brooklyn's (pre-lottery) we would swap the picks back. Just wanted to clarify that should anyone question the deal (since on the surface it does seem odd).

A trade has been completed between the Washington Wiseguys and the Atlanta Crackers. The Crackers are looking to kickstart their rebuild and gave up the two biggest franchise players in their brief history to do it. Hitchcock has been the ace of the Crackers for awhile, winning 4 Cy Youngs, and Clark has held down the main HR slot in the lineup. It was very difficult to trade them, but Washington was looking for a kick to compete with KC, Det, and Cleveland and was willing to give up prospects Snipes, Laker, and Castillo. The jury is still out that Castillo can get enough control over his stuff to be effective, and if Laker can get enough contact to go with tremendous power potential. Snipes should be a longtime contributor, plus a 1st and 2nd round pick to help rebuild the minor leagues. Atlanta wishes the longtime vets well in their pursuit of another title (or two)
