Pike for Carlucci and a pair of 1sts

April 28, 2012 at 09:25PM View BBCode

4/3/2044

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Brooklyn Gothams. The Brooklyn Gothams receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8688227]Joe Pike[/url] from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9726870]Steve Carlucci[/url], Draft Pick - 2045 Round 1 (BRO), Draft Pick - 2046 Round 1 (BRO).

Nothing lasts forever so after 12 seasons with the Buckeyes the best pitcher of his generation is heading to another team.

I posted my intention to move Pike and really there were only three teams in the mix, Brooklyn, Montreal and Kansas City. I held off until after the amateur draft because I didn't like the pool and then basically looked at a very strong offer from KC and my counter to Brooklyn. In the end I took the Brooklyn deal because I felt that it not offered better upside for the Buckeyes with a young starting pitcher and a pair of 1st round picks.

This deal may have a domino effect as without Pike we are no longer contenders so I may start actively shopping some relievers and put [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=8688290]Ian Faith[/url] back on the block.

Brooklyn's end is obvious, they get the best pitcher in the league to bolster a team that won 92 games and a playoff berth last year, for Cleveland it means we close the book on a five year playoff run and start looking to get younger.

Sorry dude, I normally reserve comment on trades, but that is a lot less then I figured Pike was going to go for. If I had known that I would have offered!

Well if you don't buy a ticket you can't see the show.

Pike is an amazing talent but he's also OS34 so likely has only 5 years left, I wanted three pieces and I got probably 2 3/4 pieces.

I was a bit surprised at the fact that really only three teams showed up at the party but,. as always, once I make the decision I'm going to act on it quickly to start moving other pieces.

Still just dont see it. Its a done deal, both sides are happy. I would have expected at least one blue chip prospect and Carlucci doesn't impress me very much. Only time will prove one of us right, and offer sent :D.

I wanted to see which direction my team is going to go...if a strong start I might have thrown my hat in but ship has sailed.

I wish Mr. Pike well in his new home...and can't say I'm all broken up with him being in the other league!!!

Thanks for trading Pike to the N.L., all I'll say is "Bring it on"!

The Cobras might have to go a little shopping ...

Jericho for Givens and a 1st

April 29, 2012 at 08:20PM View BBCode

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the New York Bad Gnus. The New York Bad Gnus receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9085119]John Jericho[/url] from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9784328&modern=true&statsorimps=stats]Raylan Givens[/url], Draft Pick - 2045 Round 1 (NYN).

This started out as a small offer from NYN for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=9158276]Toby Stroud[/url] but our valuations were wildly disparate so Tim then countered with a prospect and 1st offer for Jericho, I countered with a different prospect and the deal was done.

I had hoped to get a pitching prospect for Jericho but I really like Givens offensive upside, I had him ranked #4 in the past amateur draft, so the opportunity to get a teenage hitter who I project to A-/A+ vs RHP with A- speed was too much to pass up.

The move mean some dominoes fall elsewhere as well, with veteran [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=9014198]Paul Richmond[/url] now becoming our everyday 2B and former #7 overall pick [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=9426142]Tony Villers[/url] getting a chance to play every day in the majors.

Jericho is, as I said to Tim, only A- overall but his performance is higher than his overall grade, he's a high on base hitter with .450 slugging and excellent SB numbers despite only B+ speed. I think Jericho will continue to post solid numbers for another 5 years, by which time I hope Givens is a fixture in the Buckeyes lineup.

Tarly for Navarre and a 1st

5/14/2044

A trade has been completed between the New York Bad Gnus and the Cleveland Buckeyes. The Cleveland Buckeyes receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9598090&modern=true&statsorimps=stats]Tres Navarre[/url], Draft Pick - 2046 Round 1 (NYN) from the New York Bad Gnus in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9014204]Sam Tarly[/url].

Boston's gonna be PO'd about this one as Chuck had been sniffing around Tarly for awhile but I wanted a top pitching prospect and a 1st round pick so when NYN offered up Navarre and a '46 1st I took the deal.

Tarly's a low endurance SP with a control heavy split that generally produces very good results. He was invaluable for the Buckeyes during our five year playoff run as the first man out of the bullpen and has posted very solid rate stats in his first 8 starts this year, he's only 29 so should have six solid years left in him and with NY contending he's a perfect fit for the Bad Gnus.

In return I get a potential top end starter in Navarre, the former 1st pick overall in the 2041 draft. Navarre hasn't had great luck in improves but still projects out to at least A/A- with good endurance and red letter health, he should be a solid #3, maybe more. I also add another 1st round pick, giving me six in the next two years and the chance to restock my rather barren minor league system.

Cleveland have brought hard throwing right hander [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9487352]Rush Mackenzie[/url] up to the majors to see if he can handle major league hitters in the Buckeyes radically revamped rotation. I hope Tarly flourishes in the National league and Navarre ends up A overall, then it's a real win/win.

"A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Washington Wiseguys. The Washington Wiseguys receive Mike Park, John "The Wild" West, Koby Kent, Bill Chapman from the Boston Pops in exchange for Kimera Mabe, Larry Manzanillo, Draft Pick - 2045 Round 2 (WAS)."

I've been looking into trading one of my pitchers to get a little younger, and that's what I got. I trade Mabe, who's proven to be a a solid starter or reliever, and won't decline for a couple years. I also send Manzanillo to Boston, which will mean Coker and the newly acquired Kent have to make up for the loss.

In return I get Chapman, who will hopefully turn into a good starter, young reliever West, who I think will make A overall, and Kent who will take over for Hamlin.

I can't help myself..given a chance to compete I'm going for it again. This deal helps me immediately (especailly given a recent injury to staff Ace [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9309181]Steve "Ferris" Mueller[/url]. I'm moving A overall starter/long reliever [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=8775260]Kimera Mabe[/url] into the top spot in my rotation and will be inserting OFer [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=8775260]Larry Manzanillo[/url] and his A+ PvR into my lineup for some expected additional "sauce"!

This helps me now...but I give up some very good talent in West (no reason he won't end up A overall) and Chapman (who is still a few years away form being ready for The Show). Kent is a tweener who might end up, with continued improves, a realiable player (but, again, isn't ready for the bigs, on the Pops, just yet).

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Kansas City River Cats. The Kansas City River Cats receive Ben Cherington, Earl Phillips from the Boston Pops in exchange for Bobo Daglia.

Another deal to try to strengthen our chances to win the AL pennant this year. [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9158269]Bobo Daglia[/url] comes home to Boston (his orignal team, who drafted him 5th overall in 2034) along with his A+ PvR (and 211 career HRs) in exchange for hi-po OF prospect [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9370633]Earl Phillips[/url] and former 2nd round pick [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9426128]Ben Cherrington[/url].

On paper this helps me a ton this year. But I'm pretty sure ABE is illiterate so "paper" may not carry the day! KC gets a very nice prospect in Herman (IMHO).

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Cobras. The Cincinnati Cobras receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9085165]Harlan Judd[/url] from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for Draft Pick - 2047 Round 1 (CIN).

Greg approached me on this deal offering up a 2046 1st round pick for Judd, but since I already have three 1st round picks in '46 I countered with the above offer and the deal was done.

Judd is a solid reliever but I'm not going to win many games the next couple of years and a 1st two years down the road has more value to me than an A- reliever.

"A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Washington Wiseguys. The Washington Wiseguys receive Hank Herman from the Boston Pops in exchange for Clay Quintana."

It was tough to let go of Quintana, but my team's sharp decline of play made most everyone available. Quintana was the fan favorite in Washington, and the team will miss his HRs and SB's while he's in Boston. Coming to the Wiseguys is Hank Herman. Herman is a plus defensive outfielder, and is still developing his power, while also having plus speed. His defense should help the young pitchers coming up through the minors (Adlesh, Chapman, Snell) when they get there.

This was an "interesting deal" for the Pops. Herman should be a very good player for quite some time. But he was slumping badly this year and hurting the team while playing. I didn't want to just sit him and lose a year of improves so when Washington went into sell mode I thought Quintana would be a great upgrade. Since he is only OS 30 he helps my team THIS YEAR AND for the next 5-6 seasons. He can also play 4 positions skillfully (and two more are coming) so that he gives me a ton of versatility.

I know Herman is a loss...but I am playing for a title this year.

A trade has been completed between the Montreal Expats and the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers receive Aaron Hollingsworth, John Larker, Buddy Connolly, Ken Pieretti, Lee Black, Johnny Ellis, Draft Pick - 2046 Round 1 (MON) from the Montreal Expats in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9309183]Charlie Alfonseca[/url], Stu Jenkins, John Laabs

Well, after my decent start I decided to try to continue the Expats playoff streak.

I think I gave up a lot of prospects, and have made my cupboard essentially bare for my rebuild, but I figured I may have 2 years left and this trade reflected that.

Alfonseca gives me a closer after two years of blown save after blown save. Jenkins and Laabs, while not having the speed I like, can bring power to a lineup that is aging. They also have a year before declines, which is huge in my two year plan

A trade has been completed between the Washington Wiseguys and the Montreal Expats. The Montreal Expats receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8937763]Hap Behney[/url] from the Washington Wiseguys in exchange for Bill Bevan, Draft Pick - 2047 Round 1 (MON)

Well, after the last trade I am essentially all in. Behney's age fits with my two year plan, plus he slots in nicely as my 3rd starter after Johnny Jackson and John Mouton. That improves my staff drastically, as it allows Bobby Martin to move to a decent spot in the pen.

I am obviously a little concerned about the 1st next year - as there are no guarantees my moves and subsequent declines won't leave me limp here. But it was a gamble I had to make.

BJ...I LOVE how you play this game...doing what you feel you need to to win now (seemingly every year)!

The results speak for themselves -- 9 straight seasons with a winning % of >.600 (with the 10th year right around the corner).

Very impressive...and I'm THRILLED you are in the NL!

Two trades that were made to try to take advantage of what has been a good start and a chance to compete. With Montreal and Cincinnati making moves to improve their team, I needed to keep pace and continue to make Atlanta better. I gave up some good youth but think that I have 2 very good starting pitchers that can make me very formidable going down the stretch.

I can't help myself!!! But when given the chance to compete I often feel the need to upgrade. In this case I get a "in their prime" stud at 1B (Whitaker), a solid SP to boost my rotation (Jukes) and a big-time all-purpose OF sub/pinch hitter in Caceres (who could start for most teams) who gives me depth and versatility.

Philly gets a wonderful OF prospect in [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9426170]Parks[/url] (as long as he stays healthy he'll be a BIG bat) and very promising SP prospect in [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9784363]Cromer[/url] and two opportunities for youth in RP [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9726896]Darling[/url] and my 1st round pick this year. Plust two vets to fill his roster voids (who I needed to move with my additions).

Simply put, I want to win. I may well have overpaid, but Pike should have at least two good years left (after this one). I am giving up a very good RP (Johnson) who's D- health was a major hassle for me, and I give up a decent SP prospect who should improve well for Brooklyn in the majors - since I didn't have room for him I figured I could let him go. Giving up the 1st round pick was the hardest part of the deal, but I hope it will be at least a playoff 1st :).

It's a lot to pay for an OS35 player but if he gets you the ring it's worth it.
