Of Vet for OF Vet

4/13/2036

As Tx said in his offer to me..."perhaps a change of scenery would be good for both players". With a very disappointing 3-8 start under our belt a "scenery change" might be just what the Pops need.

A trade has been completed between the Philadelphia BullFrogs and the Boston Pops. The Boston Pops receive Casey Kelly from the Philadelphia BullFrogs in exchange for Jeffrey "Mrs." Robinson.

Robinson has a bit of an edge in the all-important power department, Kelly in contact and intangibles. But the fact the Kelly can play all 3 OF positions (vs. Robinson's 2) sold me on this (I become a bit more versatile).

I'll get caught up on three trades I've recently made. All are attempts to develop a team that can start contending in 2 to 3 seasons and hopefully keep contending for quite a few seasons in a row:

6/2/2036

A trade has been completed between the Philadelphia BullFrogs and the Kansas City River Cats. The Kansas City River Cats receive Nate Milkins, Dave Ellison from the Philadelphia BullFrogs in exchange for Rod Lawson.

Lawson is a good young RP, so I am trading quality here. But I get Milkins, who hadn't improved well in the majors for Philly, but was 23-24 and perhaps hadn't reached his prime improvement years. I am hoping that is the case:). I also get Ellison, who has decent potential. So I'm trading a quality young RP for two decent major league prospects. I think it's an even trade.

6/21/2036

A trade has been completed between the Kansas City River Cats and the St. Louis Red Birds. The St. Louis Red Birds receive Francisco Meade from the Kansas City River Cats in exchange for Draft Pick - 2039 Round 2 (STL)

Meade, an OS35 Sp, was only useful to me as a trading chip. A 2nd round pick is fairly standard for a declining vet. Both teams benefit.

8/4/2036

A trade has been completed between the Kansas City River Cats and the New York Bad Gnus. The New York Bad Gnus receive Gary Bagby, Draft Pick - 2037 Round 1 (STL) from the Kansas City River Cats in exchange for Brahiam Navarro, Draft Pick - 2038 Round 2 (NYN)

I had to give up a 1st round draft pick on this one, but I thought it was worth taking a chance on Navarro. His improves this season have not been good, but he's young so I thought he and the NYN 2nd were worth a late round 1 pick and an OS36 catcher. NYN perhaps gets the better of this deal, but time will tell.

Kryhoski for a suspect

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Chicago Guppies. The Chicago Guppies receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9240711]Mike Swander[/url] from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7957824]Hank Kryhoski[/url].

I'll be honest, I made this deal primarily to show how easy it is to upgrade your catching situation if you have any interest in really winning games.

Swander was a guy I picked up off waivers because I wanted to have 15 guys in the minors, he's got a shot at C+/A+. B-/A+ with good speed and reasonable health but really there are lots of guys like him around.

Kryhoski is 36 but still is an upgrade over some catchers starting in this league, and he was available for virtually nothing.

I hope Swander works out for Chicago, I really don't care whether Kryhoski helps me much, he was really just acquired to prove a point.

Ratzer, Bagby, and a pick for Navarro, Saupold, and two picks

8/4/2036

A trade has been completed between the Kansas City River Cats and the New York Bad Gnus. The New York Bad Gnus receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7621185]Gary Bagby[/url], Draft Pick - 2037 Round 1 (STL) from the Kansas City River Cats in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9085124]Brahiam Navarro[/url], Draft Pick - 2038 Round 2 (NYN).

8/10/2036

A trade has been completed between the Detroit Bravehearts and the New York Bad Gnus. The New York Bad Gnus receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7500482]Billy Ratzer[/url] from the Detroit Bravehearts in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9085195]Tyler Saupold[/url], Draft Pick - 2038 Round 1 (NYN).

At the time the Bad Gnus GM pulled the trigger on these two exchanges, the Gnus were in a virtual tie for top spot in the NL with St. Louis and Montreal while surprising everyone in New York. Throughout the season, suspect starting pitching and an extremely weak backup catcher had plagued the team. In addition, several injuries hampered our ability to field a team that could continue to battle for a playoff berth. Management felt that in order to have an opportunity to make the playoffs, we had to strengthen our weak areas, even if we sacrificed some youth in the process. So, we rolled the dice.

In Ratzer, we filled a gaping hole in the starting rotation with a quality veteran. The stop-gap starters had been getting blasted by opposing hitters. We had to do something. In addition, Ratzer was on the trading block. We certainly did not want him to move to St. Louis or Montreal. Ratzer is nearing the twilight of his career, but he should be able to compete at an above average level for approximately three more seasons.

In Bagby, we obtained a backup catcher with power who can play three positions. He should contribute this season while logging enough at bats to return for another campaign. We will need him as a part-time solution at the catcher position while our two young catching prospects continue to develop.

In Navarro and Saupold, we traded some young talent that should continue to develop into good ballplayers.

Since the trades were executed, the Gnus have played like crap. These deals are shaping up to be epic failures. Enough time remains in the season, however, to turn things around. The team knows it can get hot. We've done it before. We need to get very hot one more time during the final 30 games of the season.

If we do not make it, the moves still were worth the gamble. Without making them, we feel we had no chance to compete down the stretch.

Your point being that you are out to get me. Yes it does. What good will a 36yr old catcher do for me? I need a young catcher or do you not understand that? I tried to get Ducky from Montrael for Ratzer but that did not work out. By making an arbitrary trade for an almost retired catcher with B+ arm, you only show how are obsessed you truly are with your witchhunt. You did not upgrade your catching situation.

Are you saying that a good manager should go around making bad, unnecessary trades. You have a fair hitting catcher. How will that benefit you next season?

If you were in my shoes, what would have done differently?

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Washington Wiseguys. The Washington Wiseguys receive Pat Butler, John Laabs from the Boston Pops in exchange for Jay Porter. Protest This Trade.

I was looking to upgrade my bullpen for the stretch run and had a number of offers out on the street that would accomplish. Washington was the first to accept and the deal was done. I get a "in his prime" RP in [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7957883]Porter[/url] who will fit in nicely as a set-up man. In return Washington gets a nice power hitting prospect in [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7957883]John Laabs[/url] who should see A+ power from both sides of the plate with decent contact skills. He should become a reliable 20/80 (HRs/RBIs) guy. Butler was a throw in as he was headed for the waiver wire.

Catching up...

The last ditch attempt to secure a 2036 playoff berth did not pan out, so the Bad Gnus management team decided to exchange veterans for draft picks that, hopefully, will net some young talent and a couple of young pitchers.

Before the trades, the Bad Gnus were facing the beginning of a rebuilding effort with very few 1st or 2nd round drafts picks in the upcoming drafts. Now, we have three 1st round picks in the 2038 amateur draft and a 1st round and two 2nd round picks in the 2039 amateur draft. In addition, Sandberg and Santorini could develop into serviceable pitchers.

The Gnus parted with several fan favorites, players who have contributed a great deal to the franchise, but the team needed to make the moves. Hopefully some of the veterans can finish their careers while providing significant contributions to teams that are in the hunt for playoff berths.

Brown and Sloan to Baltimore for Rick Ford

December 02, 2011 at 07:41PM View BBCode

4/14/2039

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the Baltimore Bay Dogs. The Baltimore Bay Dogs receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9014232]Romeo Brown[/url], [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9158272]Duncan Sloan[/url] from the Cleveland Buckeyes in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=8469431]Rick Ford[/url].

I'm tired of this rebuild, it seems like it's taken forever, after 2035 I thought we were ready and made some moves to that end but we've regressed. My hope is that by adding another premium arm to the rotation we can weather the offensive slumps and return to the post season.

Ford's numbers are solid and along with Pike and Sexauer gives me a pretty impressive top 3, plus my depth, already good, is even better now .

I offered Baltimore two options on this deal, both with Sloan in them, and they chose door #2. Brown has had brutal improves the past couple of years but has a solid overall skill set and is young enough to tack on some improves. Brown wasn't going to start for me anytime soon so I felt he was expendable to help get an A overall SP. Sloan is an A- overall pitcher who performed well last year but his low endurance limits his value in my bullpen, I tend to run essentially a three man pen so those three guys need high endurance. I would rather have moved an older arm like Castillo or Tobin but I couldn't see Baltimore wanting that so I offered Sloan.

Overall I improve my pitching staff in the short term and Baltimore gets two everyday players in their 20s. Seems like good value both ways to me.

A trade has been completed between the Brooklyn Gothams and the Boston Pops. The Boston Pops receive Pat Reagan, Draft Pick - 2040 Round 1 (BRO) from the Brooklyn Gothams in exchange for Erwin Juul. Protest This Trade

As I've said in a few league message posts, my team is underperforming in a BIG way and I'm getting pretty old so it's time to move some high-performing vets and retool my team with some youth (without hopefully having to do a complete rebuild).

Juul is a potential staff ace (even at OS34) and should give Brooklyn a number of quality starts this season and the next 2-3 after that. In return I hope to get at least one quality SP from the likes of Reagan or Brooklyn's first rounder this year (if I get two quality starters I'll be thrilled but will be satisfied with at least one).

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Montreal Expats. The Montreal Expats receive Mike Fink, Mike Howe from the Boston Pops in exchange for Ray Howard, Cornelius Montecristo, Draft Pick - 2040 Round 1 (MON), Draft Pick - 2042 Round 1 (MON).

We made this deal for two reasons:

1. Despite being in a tie for 1st place in the N.L. when this deal was made, the Expats are underachieving based upon our talent and our record in the previous season.

2. More importantly, a number of the Expats players are in the twilight of their careers and decline is expected in the coming years. Howe and Fink are in their prime with several good years remaining and will hopefully act as a bridge between older talent like Osteen, Lyons, Stahl, Johnson and Tomberlain, and younger talent like Wilborn, McDavid, Jackson, Cobb, Tozer, Corcorun and Flavin.

We anticipate this deal helping us compete for many years.

As I posted several times I can't justify being a .500 team that is old and getting older AND keeping solid "prime time players" when they can help accelerate a rebuild. So the Expats get two bonafide studs and I get two pretty decent SP prospects and two first round picks. If two of these four opportunities turn into decent players I'll consider this successful. If 3 (or 4) turn into quality players I'll be thrilled. And, of course, if...(nah, I'm not going to complete that thought!!!).

Rightnowar for Tobin and a 2nd

A trade has been completed between the Cleveland Buckeyes and the St. Louis Red Birds. We're in a playoff race that looks like it's going to go right to the end of the season and I was getting no production out of [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?playername=nobody&mode=stats&id=9085134]Kampouris[/url], [url=]Quinn[/url]or [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=7957806]Tobin[/url] so I checked the old "trade desk" to see what was there and noticed Rightnowar as available.

I pondered what to offer and decided on Tobin, as a better mentor for St. Louis, and a 2nd round pick. Within minutes the deal was done and I'm a better team as a result .

Rightnowar is solid when available but his brutal health has meant that he has never once pitched 200 innings in a season, if I get lucky and he stays healthy he's a good #4 which means I can continue to use Coe and Tarly in the bullpen which strengthens the entire staff .

A trade has been completed between the Kansas City River Cats and the Washington Wiseguys. The Washington Wiseguys receive Marty Bostick from the Kansas City River Cats in exchange for Draft Pick - 2040 Round 2 (BRO)."

I get Bostick for a second rounder. It just seemed like a good move to make based on injuries and improving my bullpen. After the trade, the bullpen was shaken up, and the whole rotation should be stronger as a result. Bostick becomes my #3 starter, and the young Kittridge will move into the bullpen for the time being.

The Bostick for Bro round 2 trade is a win-win, IMO. I had decided that I wasn't going to make the playoffs this season (Abe, the joker, has given me a few wins since, but I'm only temporarily in 3rd place, I'm sure), so I have been trying to trade off my vets who still have value. Bostick was one of my prime SPs, who has a very respectable WHIP and ERA and will make a valuable contribution to the Was playoff run. I get an early to mid/early 2nd round pick, which will be very useful for my rebuild and fair value for an OS34 vet and I make room to bring up Navarro, who needs to be in the majors to continue his improves. Good deal for both sides.

I had 14 A-pitchers on the roster and needed to move at least one, as I posted on the league board, I offered up Coe for a 2041 2nd round pick to three different teams and KC was the first to accept.

Coe has been very solid out of the bullpen five of the past six years and with C+ endurance can start as well, these days a 2nd seems to be the going rate for A-pitchers heading into decline so I think it's a fair deal all around.

Callison for Chapman

This exchange provides the Bad Gnus with a left-handed hitting outfielder with a little pop in his bat. The Gnus part with an infielder with skills similar to one or two others on the roster, so he was expendable.

Clearly, this is a very minor deal. The Gnus hope Callison will provide the lineup vs. right-handed pitching with a bit of a boost for the next few seasons. Meanwhile, the Bad Gnus hope to be able to groom young talent as we rebuild.

Daglia (and prospect) for Elders

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Kansas City River Cats. The Kansas City River Cats receive [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9158269]OFer Bobo Daglia[/url] and [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9487394]OFer Phil Waldbauer[/url] from the Boston Pops in exchange for [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9487353]SP Raul Elders[/url]. Protest This Trade.

OK...glad this finally got this done. Sky and I have been going back and forth for days on this one (in between had discussions with several other teams for Daglia but nothing concrete).

This deal actually started with me wanting Elders for Daglia and Sky not feeling good about that. We then morphed into multi player discussions which I think might have tunred out good for both of us but risks were going up (will prospects turn into "star players"...will vets have off years???). We then took everythingoff the table and tonight, interestingly, did a restart and got back to Elders for Daglia! Tho both guys are (or will be) stars Sky rightfully felt he needed somethign more for Elders due to the age difference and I agreed to add a propsect (OFer Waldbauer -- a former first round pick) and the deal was done!

IMHO Sky gets a potential MVP in his prime (A+ PvR, A+ health so he plays every day) who is tracking to 100+ RBIs on a bad team and is 3rd in the entire league in OPS. I think this now gives KC a leg up on a title run. And Waldbauer gives KC anohter decent OF propsect.

I get a potential ace for my rebuild. At OS 20 and already B+ overall I hope Elders can get to A overall by the time he peaks (but he'll certainly be a solid A- overall with at least A- control...and with really great conversons perhaps A+???).

So, KC get a big boost now (and for another 6/7 years with Daglia) and potential with Waldbauer and I get a much needed young stud for my fairly anemic pitching staff and rebuild.
