Staff Ace Goodwin for 2 SP Propsects

8/16/2034

Boston announced yet another deal in advance of the trade deadline...

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Brooklyn Gothams. The Brooklyn Gothams receive Ken "Hotel" Dorman, Preacher Menke from the Boston Pops in exchange for Curt Goodwin.

...aimed squarely on improving it's pitching staff and giving the Pops a fighting chance to make the playoffs this year.

Brooklyn gets two very good (tho unproven) young pitcing propsects in return for a potential staff ace in Curt Goodwin.

This should be good for Boston now (and the next 5-6 seasons) and good for Brooklyn in the future (two potential strong starters)...so a win/win for both organizations.

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Brooklyn Gothams. The Brooklyn Gothams receive Ken "Hotel" Dorman, Preacher Menke from the Boston Pops in exchange for Curt Goodwin.

After several days of conversations, the perpetually rebuilding Gothams have decided to look to the future, once again, in dealing staff ace Curt Goodwin to the Braves, for Ken Dorman and Preacher Menkem, two pitchers with upside potential.

After reviewing the team's roster, it was decided that the potential for two top of the rotation arms in three years was better long-term for the future of the franchise. Goodwin, who has rounded into shape the past two seasons, was a steep price to pay, but a necessary one.

A trade has been completed between the Washington Conglomerate and the Boston Pops. The Boston Pops receive Keith Harrelson from the Washington Conglomerate in exchange for Charlie Graham, Draft Pick - 2036 Round 2 (BOS).

Washington offered up Harrelson for Graham (and after some final discussions my 2036 2nd rounder was inlcuded).

This was a perfect deal for me as it allows me to round out my rotation (finally) with a quality group of starters...all in their prime. Given my deals thsi year to strengthen my bullpen I go into 2035 season with what I believe is a top-shelf staff.

With the arival of George Rekar and Mike Fink plus the development of Eddie LaPointe into a decent 3B Graham was expendable...and worth dealing to tighten up my rotation.

The versatile Graham (1B, 2B & 3B) has been a solid part of my lineup for the past 6 seasons and will be missed.

A trade has been completed between the Pittsburgh Orphans and the Washington Conglomerate. The Washington Conglomerate receive Joe Falkenborg, Larry McDevitt, Ossie Tatum from the Pittsburgh Orphans in exchange for John Hornsby, Babe Mellana, Draft Pick - 2036 Round 2 (BOS), Draft Pick - 2038 Round 2 (WAS)."

The Orphans expressed interest in dealing their players, and Washington jumped at the chance.
Giving up Mellana was tough, seeing as he should max out his power and is only 24, but with only C+ contact, his high strikeout numbers in his brief stint with the big club last year were looked down upon. Joey White's good impression on the club made Mellana more expendable, with outfielders Howard and Manzanillo already making strides in the minors. Mellana should be a future masher and was by far the toughest chip in the deal coming from Washington's side.
Hornsby was a secondary prospect to me, with Kopf as the preferred minor league first baseman. Hornsby, a second round pick in '32, has red letter power and a chance to keep developing into a solid player.

Falkenborg and McDevitt will be very welcome additions to Washington's bullpen, providing late inning relief. Tatum was the centerpiece of the trade for me, and provides Washington with a young catcher with lots of potential and a decent arm, along with great health. The former number 2 overall pick will be finding time backing up 33 year old Ty Shaw as well as backing up corner outfield and first base spots, until there is an injury or someone is moved to another team.

For Pittsburgh/Atlanta... I found myself taking over a team without much talented youth other than Tatum. The minor league system was pretty much bare of talent that could be counted on and the management decided to try and replenish. Dealing Tatum wasn't an easy decision, but getting back the potential for 4 players that could contribute was too much to pass up. Moving the relievers help facilitate the deal and since competing right now isn't very likely, they were expendable.

Mellana will come over and spend all season hitting at the bottom of the lineup and playing LF, hoping to improve on his low contact numbers and raise his already impressive power. Hornsby has the hope of being a poor man's Mellana with good power as well. The 2 rounders should allow us to add more talent as we rebuild in Atlanta starting next season.

A trade has been completed between the Montreal Expats and the Pittsburgh Orphans. The Pittsburgh Orphans receive Bobby Martin, Mike Perry, Draft Pick - 2037 Round 1 (MON) from the Montreal Expats in exchange for Barney Lyons.

In much the same vein as the earlier trade, this was about getting quality numbers for a very talented player. Lyons was a co-#1 on the Pittsburgh pitching staff and it wasn't something you see often... an ace in his prime changing teams. Pittsburgh management took the opportunity to add on some youth and depth. Martin will move to the bullpen to be the closer, but management fully expects him to eventually be a top of the rotation starter. Perry has the ability with some ABE luck to also make the rotation down the road... he's a ways away and we'll track his progress for a few years. A first rounder is another opportunity to pick up a player that can be a starter.

Management decided that it was time to make a move in the National League. After several years of losing since taking over as an expansion team, last year was a bit of a revelation, with the Expats winning 87 games.

With the Bad Gnus aging, the Expats have an opportunity to move into the playoffs over the next couple of years. In order to do that, we needed to shore up a weak pitching staff. Lyons will immediately team with Mike Nops to form a mean one-two punch at the top of the rotation for the next 5+ years. Hopefully, Johnny Jackson will continue to improve at a decent rate to eventually give us a top-notch top 3 soon enough.

Of course to acquire a pitcher of Lyons' caliber, we needed to give up a lot. Martin should be a stud for many years. Perry improved a great deal last year and, if he continues to make strides, should be a very good pitcher himself. Hopefully the 1st will end up being a playoff pick, to minimize its loss.

This deal took a substantial amount of back-and-forth, but we're glad we were able to come to an agreement that looks to be a "win-win" for both teams.

This may be the first of several moves in a series for the Expats, as we feel we have a few trade chips left to dangle for quality talent.

A 2nd round pick for Fisher

I needed a mentor and Boston didn't seem to have much use for Fisher so I offered up a future 2nd round pick and the deal was done.

Even though I don't really have a strong need for a mentor I wasn't comfortable with going with D+ and the waiver wire had nothing remotely acceptable. I made some other offers but finally ended up with Fisher.

The key for me was that Fisher is still a viable option as a #5 and I've got lots of draft picks. I probably overpaid but it's done.

Novak for a 3rd round pick

I originally drafted Novak in the 3rd round last year, then waived him, then reclaimed him. Novak's got great health and a good split but I've got too many young pitchers on the farm so one had to go.

I offered up Novak on the trade board (remember that ?) for a 3rd round pick and Koz responded, I countered with a later year and the deal was done. It's a small deal but hopefully each tam will get something out of it.

Well, this one should be fun:

ACE SP Duke Sunkel has joined the New York (A) Hamiltonians in exchange for prospect RP Tim Badgro, IF Biggs Parrish and the NYA 1st round pick in 2038.

This deal is about filling out a starting rotation and addressing an immediate need because of injuries. We have made the playoffs on the strengths of our bullpen and lineup for 3 consecutive seasons without winning the real prize, so hopefully Sunkel boosts our chances at a title.

PIT initially contacted me and asked for Parrish, a 1st, and our young bullpen stud Billy Burton, but I didn't feel that giving up Burton's youth for Sunkel's endurance was a good idea, so I countered with this offer and he took it.

RP Badgro has defied his name and actually improved very well. I was expecting him to max control and get to C+ velocity. Parrish, likewise, should max in power and possibly speed and get his contact into the green range. The 1st rounder is a few seasons out, so you never know where it might be.

For Pittsburgh, it was about continuing to add to the minor league system in order to start a rebuild a very old team. This trade garners Pittsburgh 4 more players... Badgro, Parrish, and a first and second round draft pick. I have Badgro a little better projection than Hammy, with him getting into blue velocity from his age. Parrish is interested me because of his tremendous power... time will tell how it goes with his lower contact. Not wishing bad luck to NYA, but the draft pick a few years out hopefully works out for me to get a better than playoff pick to add to the youth movement.

A trade has been completed between the Brooklyn Gothams and the Philadelphia BullFrogs. The Philadelphia BullFrogs receive Preacher Menke from the Brooklyn Gothams in exchange for Doug Deeds.

Why would I trade with a team I am locked in an epic battle with?

Why not?

Seriously, the Bullfrogs were interested in Meinke, who had fallen out of favor quickly in Brooklyn due to his lack of success in converting improvements. Plus, I am in desperate need of starting pitchers, so... I sent the 21 year old prospect for Deeds, a 24 year old pitching prospect, who has been inserted into the Gothams rotation.

Hopefully changing locations works out for both squads (so long as Meinke doesn't make a career of beating the Gothams.)

Dinny May for a 1st Round Pick

The Bad Gnus GM is not excited about this deal, but it may be just what the doctor ordered. Before the trade, the bullpen lacked quality, healthy depth. Hopefully, May will step in and fill the void. The Gnus have been playing bad ball of late. We need a boost.

We would have preferred to exchange the 1st round pick in a deal that would have included a position player, but circumstances dictated we make a move for May, especially before a competitor made a deal for him. The aging group of veterans continues to compete for a playoff berth. We need to make the most of our chances right now. We will deal with the future in the future.

I would have preferred a top shelf pitching prospect but wasn't getting what I had hoped for (from both offers I had sent out and a couple that came my way). The reason I took this deal was simply (and I hate to wish ill on another owner) based ont he fact that those feisty Gnus are getting a little long in the tooth so I'm "hoping" (sorry Tim) that next year's version of the Gnus is "down"...and might make this a "top 10" pick. It's a gamble but I'm "hoping" it pays off.

Part of this deal is The BadGnus fault, when I dealt Carlos for the NYN 2036 1st round pick I was, quite frankly, not expecting it to be #16 .

I am hoping that the Buckeyes are ready to contend this season and so was willing to give up a prospect and a late 1st round pick in return for Greenwell despite his health rating.

Greenwell has an excellent skill set and his low health is mitigated by my major league depth, in that I have numerous options for when he goes down with injury. I wasn't crazy about the draft pool and I have a ton of young pitchers in the system so Carey was expendable.

Atlanta adds some prospect inventory so they get what they want and hopefully Greenwell can get 450 ABs a year and help us make the next level.

For Atlanta it was about getting younger... adding pitching and acquiring draft picks... Greenwell is a good player, but he couldn't mentor, so it kind of made for a wasted spot in a rebuilding situation. Carey will move right in to the closer's role... and we'll see what the late 1st rounder gets me in return as well.

Best of luck to Greenwell in Cleveland.

I'm hoping that this year's edition is ready to challenge for a playoff spot and so I wanted to shore up the rotation.

Chicago had Sexauer listed as available so I made a preliminary offer but it included a pick in the 2036 draft and disappeared without being viewed so I asked what might be wanted, the answer was Baca.

After some soul searching I made the deal, Sexauer is a solid #3 type starter, in fact he's sort of what Baca will become, with big velocity, high endurance and good health. Sexauer is also only OS31 so he has 5 good years in him while Baca won't be ready for another 2-3 years so it works for my timeline.

This should be a win/win as CHN gets younger and I get a stable #3, only time will tell.

Yeah, I think Baca has a puncher's chance to end up similar to Sexauer. It's a good deal for both parties, I needed someone to develop, and he needed a quality arm now.

Hell, I need a lot of players to develop if the Guppies are ever gonna matter in this league!

Bob Guisto for a 2nd round Pick

Just one day after acquiring SP Larry Sexauer from CHN the Buckeyes have picked up another National Leaguer.

Cleveland GM Bob Salazar announced that the Buckeyes had swung a deal to acquire OFer Bob Guisto in return for a 2nd round pick in the 2037 amateur draft.

Salazar described the deal in this manner:"We've been very patient in building this club but we feel that the time has come to get some results on the field. Bob Guisto has been a consistent power threat for the past five seasons, averaging just under 30 homers a year, and is a solid OFer with good speed. We had four picks in the first twp rounds of the upcoming draft so we felt comfortable moving a pick for the short term acquisition of some power."

Guisto will take over in CF against both RHP and LHP.
