Buddy Ryan's playbook

The introduction is a great read on aggressive defensive philosophy, and after that you get the whole Buddy Ryan playbook.
"A quarterback has never completed a pass when he was flat on his back. We must hit the QB hard and often. QB's are over-paid, over-rated, pompous bastards and must be punished."
Classic!
Chris, if you're looking for some ideas on defensive schemes, this might be pretty useful:

The completion % "under pressure" seems to be increasing even in BPFL

I believe it will be very good for this game if pressures and hits on the QB take a cumulative effect.

Agreed. Maybe something about the qb's mental toughness (execution attribute?) can play into how it adds up of the course of the game.

Yes, maybe Attitude even. A guy whose line keeps collapsing is going to get pissed and start making mistakes if he's got a bad attitude. If he's Peyton Manning, he might be able to handle the pressure better.
Also, Agility would come into play more, I think. Perhaps it already does, though.
I have played some really stiff QBs with "C" agility and break tackle, and they don't seem to get sacked much more. The line really is the determining factor, for the most part.
I suppose the big picture point is that "average" QBs can really be adversely affected by a pressure defense in ways that the superstars might not be. But occasionally if you stick Joe Montana on his ass enough, and he starts to get up slowly and shake off some cobwebs and makes a bad read on the next play.
Certainly I understand this is very complicated to program, but I do believe that it will go a long way toward restoring the Offense-Defense balance, particularly where the QB success is concerned.

I haven't checked the Agility part of this equation in a while, I'll look at it.

This happens a bit now; a sacked QB takes a fatigue hit which of course temporarily reduces his ratings. The hit may not be big enough, though.

as a Phildelphia Eagle fan who hates Andy Reid football - ie throw the ball all the time, all finesse, build a team based on speed but not toughness - I loved the Buddy Ryan era
The Eagles teams from 1988-1992 are my favorite teams
My dream in simdynasty would be to build a defense like that era.
but with the current system here it would be a detriment to get Safetys like Wes Hopkins and Andre Waters who were killers and intimidators. See the "House of Pain" game at Houston to see their effect. They totally cowed Houston's WR's in that game.
unfortunately, a soft offense like that Houston team would run all over a Buddy Ryan defense in simdynasty given the inherent mismatches created with the limited pass coverage options.
Buddy Ryan's defense was tough, nasty, physical, and a little dirty, creatng turnovers, sacks, scoring pts, every game was a wild ride whether they won or lost. Even though they never won a championship I will always love that team. If they only had an offensive line.
what attributes should you emphasize in simdynasty?
