While we r talking about ABE

Tony Erickson is #1 in the AL for ROY and Travis Fryman is #2. But Fryman is also #2 in AL MVP and Erickson isn't even mentioned :puzzled:

ABE loves winners. Players on losing teams don't get MVP consideration, no matter what their numbers are. At least as far as I've seen.

This guy won the MVP last year in another league. The team he was on finished in 4th place 13 games out. It happens...not often...but it happens.

Fryman is also a SS where Erickson is playing LF. SD puts WAY too much emphasis on team record, and C, SS, and 2B when it comes to MVP awards. I have a guy right now in another league playing CF. He's hitting .314 with a .381 OBP, 21 HR, 55 RBI, 58 Runs, 16 SB... and he's yet to commit an error. He doesn't show up in the MVP race. Yet my 2B that is hitting .277 with a .344 OBP, 18 HR, 51 RBI, 42 Runs, and 9 SB is leading the pack... with 5 errors. My C on that team is 3rd in the race with a .321 BA, .404 OBP, 7 HR, 31 RBI, 44 Runs, and 12 SB... while putting out a 52% CS rate, 3 errors, and 2 PBs.
I'll also point out Rahl's .338 BA 40/40 season where he lead the league in just about everything (and placed top 5 in everything he didn't lead)... and he wasn't even mentioned in the MVP voting that year.

My lone MVP in this league was Lan Mandragoran during a 1974 season where my team went 91-71 and took 3rd place.
I've only heard of ABE giving a MVP to a player from a losing team 3 times... period. All three of those were found on the MBs. I've never seen it. It's rare that an MVP goes to a team with less than 90 wins... or is out of the playoff mix.

Also, I'll point out that Fryman isn't even on the AS team right now. My SS Harris is currently in the starting spot, while CHA's Presley is in the backup spot. Fryman rates 5th in AS voting at SS and is 35 votes behind Harris and 15 behind Presley.
I other words, ABE considers him to be the 5th best SS in the AL so far this season.... and yet he some how ranks 2nd in MVP? How does THAT make any sense?
I'd make the argument that since Harris and Erickson are really the only guys on my squad not playing like total crap right now... that both of them are more valuable to my team than Fryman is to yours... and that they should both be rated higher in MVP voting than him... After all, both are on the starting AS roster right now, and one in the same position as Fryman.
But this isn't how SD gives out awards. The MVP should be the best player in the league... not the best C, SS, or 2B... or overwhelming best player in another position... player on one of the top 2-3 teams.
So please don't start whining about unfair this and unfair that... when the only reason that Fryman is in the MVP discussion at all is because he's the SS on the #2 team in the league. Fall to 3rd place, and he'll drop out of the rankings almost immediately. Though I will make the argument that Gibson might actually deserve being in the voting, the only reason he's the top guy is because of your team's record. Skalski so far has been the AL MVP on a 35-38 (currently) Cleveland team. He has vastly superior numbers to Gibson... but because he's on a losing team, he ranks 4th in voting.

These are all valid points, but remember, ABE calculates the MVP award based on a complex math formula that Tyson developed based on his study of the real MLB MVP's. If you look in the Game Guide, its a pretty impressive formula.
Its interesting to note that based on that formula, Tyson has correctly predicted 27 of the last 32 MVPs correctly.
And there's probably plenty of people who would argue that the MLB MVP is many times a sham, but it is what it is.
And I do agree that Rahl should have won the MVP that season. He was unconscious.

Whinning??? I made an observation and shared it. I Don't think I was whinning.
DeepThreat; R u drinking RedBulls or something? :spin:
No doubt Skalski is putting up MVP like numbers. But MVP has never been based solely on "stats" in any leauge. I didn't think Trammell should have got MVP a couple of years ago based on stats, but we won the WS and he had past seasons with great numbers that he didn't win so I was glad he finally got it.
I am also (for the record) not saying I don't like the formula, just pointing out the oddity of th situation.

Oh no, I'm not saying you are whining now... just hoping you don't start. :)
In all honesty, though, I don't know if Erickson will hold out for the RoY. He's become very streaky. He'll dominate for a couple of series, then disappear for a couple of series. I pretty much expected that this year. Fryman looks to have been pretty consistent. If he remains that way, he'll probably overtake my RoY bid... unless Erickson turns on a switch in the second half. I have a feeling that half of my team will, since a few good players have been crap so far. I was hoping for .500 or close this year... and I'm in the running for the top draft pick.

From what little that I pay attention to it, it seems to me like Erickson has been gradually pulling away from Fryman as the season has progressed. Either way both should have good careers and you are poised for the future. I'd try to grab another #1 if I were you. If not, trade it to me

At least both of those guys are young. I'm always amused when ABE gives the RoY to 31yo RP picked up off the waiver wire. Now that's good stuff :)
