Miami Corsairs (3-13) (betauser2)
#1- WR Robert Scott (A-): Scott was considered the top prospect in the league, and he has the potential to be the top receiver in the league as a rookie. It's a value pick though, as Miami didn't need WRs as much.
#17- HB Chris Muhlmann (A-): Quite possibly the top runner in the draft, MIA has given their offense a new identity with their top 2 picks.
#33- DT Sam Dorsett (B+): A solid DT, he's just not going to make many plays on passing downs. Definitely not a nose tackle, but it's good to get a pick on defense after two offensive skill players.
#49- DT Chris Boutte (B+): B-
#65- WR Jack Gandy (B+): B+
#81- S Toimi Yeisley (B+): B
#97- LB Bill Leahy (B+): A-
Overall: Miami did a good job in getting the talented players, and while I'm not sure they needed as many skill players as they got, they did well with their picks, and it should make it easier to build around for the next few seasons. Grade: A-
Anaheim Geese (3-13) (cowboymatt43)
#2- LB Bryan McKeever (A-): This linebacker has huge potential, though he does struggle against the pass at times. The lower health would normally be a concern for a #2 pick, but McKeever is probably worth it for ANA.
#18- DE Pete Adams (B+): Normally, getting the top DE at #18 would be considered the steal of the draft, but this weaker DE probably won't have as much of an effect as many players picked after him.
#34- WR Darryl Dufek (B+): Not even really a starting WR, Dufek will be mainly a special teams player. ANA can only hope for some improvement.
#50- HB Tim Thomas (B+): C+
#66- QB Jim Dwyer (B): B
#82- DT Andre Jeffries (B+): A
#98- QB Cordell Newland (B): C
Overall: Anaheim doesn't appear to have picked up many high-potential or impact players in the draft, outside of the #2 pick. Their offense, second-worst in the league, didn't improve much if any with this draft. Grade: C
Atlanta Legends (5-10-1) (KLKRTR)
#3- CB Steve Harrison (A-): Harrison has the potential to be ATL's starting FS or CB as a rookie, and he's the top player in the deepest position in the draft. Instant upgrade for the league's worst defense.
#19- G Monte Dunek (A-): Dunek is an extremely strong guard who, with a little more execution, could develop into ATL's centerpiece of their offensive line.
#35- RB Corey Harris (B+): With a little execution, this super elusive scat back will challenge for ATL's starter spot from Day 1.
#51- G Darrell Kotar (B+): A-
#67- CB Chris White (B+): A
#83- CB Howie Taylor (B+): C+
#99- C Bill Parker (B): C
Overall: Obviously, I'm not biased...oh wait..this is my team. The first 5 rounds went as well as any top 5 rounds for any team went, so the final two failings are forgivable. Grade: A-/A
San Diego Zebras (6-10) (celamantia)
#4- TE Chris Gavin (A-): A balanced tight end, Gavin can block and catch, but he won't be the best at either. Not sure SD hit their biggest need.
#20- LB Leslie Crouse (A-): Crouse is nearly as good as the #2 pick, also an ILB, but without as much potential. He still should be one of the top defensive rookies in the league.
#36- RB Ramondo Noonan (B+): This traditional back needs better execution, and that could limit how good he becomes. Other moves might have been more prudent.
#52- RB Vaughn Scheuer (B+): B-
#68- WR Monk Panepinto (B+): B
#84- DT Mike McCanless (B+): B
#100- Traded to HAM
Overall: I didn't like San Diego's 1st rounder, but I really liked their 2nd round pick, and the rest of their draft was solid. They have a lot of room for improvement, but they got some good depth mixed in with a couple of starters. Grade: B/B+
Colorado Coyotes (7-9) (skycoyote)
#5- CB Vinny Sanders (A-): Sanders, the 2nd CB taken in the top 5, should help COL significantly in pass defense, assuming his tackling improves. He can also be a huge weapon in the return game.
#21- K Anthony Hutchins (B+): This kicker has all the skill to be all-world; however, his execution is significantly lacking, so the jury is out until we see how he improves.
#37- CB Tyrell Crump (B+): COL's second CB of the draft, Crump's physical attributes might not be enough to make up for his lack of skill.
#53- RB Henry Mildren (B+): A-
#69- CB Bill Doehring (B+): B
#85- RB Ed Green (B+): C
#101- CB Frank Wolski (B+): B+
Overall: Colorado stumbled a bit with their 2nd and 3rd rounders, but they may have made up for that with their top pick and some potential gems in the later rounds. Grade: B+
San Francisco Breakers (7-9) (betauser)
#6- C Chris Jordan (A-): Jordan's value may have been misrepresented by those excellent Hands, as his other skills are probably not deserving of the #6 pick. Still, Jordan is the top pure center in the draft.
#22- C Almore Kinek (B+): Kinek is a bit weak for a center, and there is no reason to pick up 2 centers in the first two rounds.
#38- LB Henry Hansen (B+): A solid all-around backer, Hansen is worth seeing what he does in the future. He's just not a specialist. It's worth mentioning he doesn't have much potential.
#54- WR Keith Eck (B+): A
#70- DT Frank Nesser (B+): A-
#86- C Frank Dorfman (B+): F
#102- DT Bronko Wilkins (B+): B+
Overall: Apart from the Dorfman pick, they did well in all of the later rounds; however, they missed badly on their top 2 picks. Their third pick doesn't blow me out of the water either. Grade: C+
Washington Sons of Riggo (8-7-1) (tworoosters)
#7- DT Charlie Dess (B+): Dess was a bit of a reach here, even for WAS, who needs d-line help. He has more potential than Glass, but there's no guarantee that he will be worth it to the team in the long run.
#23- LB Bruce Dowling (B+): If Dowling could cover the pass, he would have been a possible top-10 pick; however, he isn't, so that limits how he can be used.
#39- LB Allen Harts (B+): Harts's physical ability might limit his first-round skill, but he has decent potential, so we will see.
#55- DE Andy Smith (B+): B
#71- DE Ray Grantham (B+): A-
#87- DT Billy Behning (B+): B
#103- K J.J. diFilippo (B+): A-
Overall: There were lots of good picks here, though there are none that stand out amongst the other--at least for being good. Top pick Dess is still looking like a bad gamble here though. Grade: B-
Las Vegas Legal Wagers (9-7) (redcped)
#8- WR Visco Logan (A-): LV had to be thrilled that one of the top playmakers in the draft fell all the way down to #9. A team on the cusp of the playoffs, this move could give them the push they need.
#24- S Robin Walker (B+): The first true safety taken in the draft, this FS should be a solid defender, just not a playmaker. A good value pick to balance out the offense and defense.
#40- DT Jeff Moran (B+): This DT is a good pickup for late in the 3rd round, and he might even make an impact as a rookie.
#56- G Al Alban (B+): A
#72- G Lenny Haley (B+): A-
#88- RB Dave Theofiledes (B): A
#104- QB Billy Joe MacWherter (B): B-
Overall: Las Vegas put together the top draft in the league this season--which is saying something for a team that almost made the playoffs. LV possibly picked up 4 starters as rookies. Grade: A
Calgary Stamp Eaters (9-7) (Goldambre)
#9- RB Steve Ridgle (B+): The top scat back available, this move only makes sense if the offense depends on a lot of screen passes. The young back has good potential however.
#25- WR Dick Fryer (B+): Ignoring one of the worst names imaginable, CAL looks to have further improved their passing game--as well as their return game. Just don't let him do post-game interviews.
#41- RB Alvin Marshall (B+): CAL picks up their second RB here, but this guy will earn his keep and make his name as one of the league's top returners.
#57- G Orlando Strickland (B+): B+
#73- LB Van Holden (B+): A-
#89- G Lew Smith (B+): B-
#105- WR Frank Barr (B+): B+
Overall: No bad picks here, but we'll see how many holes Calgary actually fixed. Calgary only drafted one defender (though their offense was the unit that needed more help). Props for drafting Dick Fryer though...I wouldn't have had the courage. Grade: B+
Cleveland Brownies (10-6) (tysonlowery)
#10- P Gary Floyd (A-): Floyd has some accuracy issues, but for a punter that can handle holding duties as well as kickoffs, it's worth it--just not in the top-10.
#26- RB Einar Culver (B+): This guy has a ton of potential, but he also is a project. He's got head issues, but he's got all-pro talent. Check back in a few seasons.
#42- TE Jarious Adams (B+): This TE doesn't have huge potential, but he's a good player--especially from the 3rd round. It just might not be enough to make up for the first two picks.
#58- P Eldridge Charles (B+): B-
#74- TE Karl Cosner (B+): A
#90- TE Rod Farley (B+): C
#106- DE Bernard Stephens (B+): B+
Overall: I'd say this was probably a good example of how not to draft..3 tight ends and 2 punters (including the #10 pick) are an easy way to keep Cleveland out of the playoffs. Just like the real Cleveland franchise. Grade: F
Winnipeg Zambonies (9-7) (blakjakshalak)
#11- DT Doc Glass (A-): Glass is possibly the top defensive lineman in a weak d-line draft, but to land him at #11 is a deal that cannot be passed up. Glass isn't a mauler, but he should make an impact against pass plays.
#27- T Dick Gibler (B): Thankfully his name isn't Gobler. Again, this draft was extremely shallow in offensive tackles, but Gibler has a chance to solidify the other line. Definitely a need pick though.
#43- T Ron Noyes (B): Another tackle for WIN, it appears WIN's strategy is to build up depth along both lines. WIN.
#59- CB Don Irvin (B+): B
#75- WR Larry Briggs (B+): B
#91- DE Chubby Peterson (B+): A
#107- DT Bill May (B+): A-
Overall: There were a couple of reaches here, but not too many, and only in positions of need, so combined with some good value picks, and I have to like the draft for the most part. Grade: B
Houston Henchmen (10-6) (Fulla)
#12- CB Jack Cornsweet (B+): In a deep draft for CBs, HOU got the 3rd best, and he should be an immediate upgrade for the ACW Champs at the safety position.
#28- DT Eric O'Bradovich (B+): O'Bradovich should be great for stopping any inside runs on Houston--another should-be defensive starter for the conference champs.
#44- RB Fred Goode (B+): This halfback has good potential and tackle-breaking ability, but he's lacking in execution--a key skill for this position.
#60- T Rufus Irvin (B): B+
#76- T Phil Herrin (B): A
#92- S Silvio Hartley (B+): A-
#108- G Alex Alston (B+): B
Overall: This was a very good draft, and even though this is a playoff team, there should be a number of starters coming out of this draft. Grade: A-/A
Chicago Grizzlies (9-7) (The_Old_Bear)
#13- T Gary Cunningham (B): This was a risky pick. Chicago obviously felt they needed to upgrade their tackle position, but we will have to play wait-and-see with this potential gem. Jury's out on this right tackle prospect.
#29- LB Blake Johnson (B+): Chicago reached deep down the draft board again, but Johnson has some good potential as long as you keep him on the inside.
#45- WR David Johnson (B): Good potential, but this WR's sub-par speed and execution simply fall in line with CHI's draft this season.
#61- G Bub Krueger (B+): B+
#77- CB Ed McAfee (B+): D
#93- G Wade Moran (B+): C+
#109- LB Ernie Roberts (B): B
Overall: This draft looks like someone sorted names, then shook them up a little bit, then chose. None of the picks are THAT bad, but there aren't any good picks either. Grade: C-
New York Trojans (10-6) (RichNYC1)
#14- G Marc Fairs (A-): Fairs is extremely disciplined, and he looks to be a good fit at LG for the Wild Card Trojans. It's not the biggest headliner, but it's a very solid pickup.
#30- LB Will Jones (B+): A great overall LB, a few years in New York's system should have this guy making a big impact every game. His downside is trying to catch up to players.
#46- G Blaine Mayer (B+): If this guard improves in agility and execution, he could be 3rd in line, after 1st rounder Fairs and former 1st rounder Carson. Just not sure NYA needed a guard here.
#62- LB Keith Readon (B): C+
#78- LB Doc Mertens (B+): A-
#94- CB Maury Hill (B+): A
#110- LB Bruce Gardner (B+): A-
Overall: All players were picked well and have talent. Unfortunately for New York, I doubt their only needs were at guard and linebacker. So talent grade here is an A-, but they just didn't hit enough needs to keep up. Grade: B/B+
Hamilton Hamiltonians (10-6) (Hamilton2)
#15- G Mike Spikes (A-): Spikes was only the 3rd offensive lineman in the draft, but he might just be the top o-lineman in the draft and should be a mainstay on the Hamilton line for years.
#31- C Eugene Cherry (B+): Centers were another popular position in this draft, and Hamilton wanted to beef up that o-line. Cherry was a steal here, as his hands are what's keeping him down.
#47- LB Len Miles (B+): He has low potential, and not great physical measureables, but in a draft with few good OLBs, HAM got a keeper here.
#63- TE Lybrant Steels (B+): B
#79- TE Jarvis Fowler (B+): C-
#95- DE Al Malbrough (B+): B+
#100- S Mel Duncan (B+): A (Pick Received From San Diego)
#111- S John Clark (B): A
Overall: Another great draft, Hamilton showed off his drafting ability with some of the top steals in the draft, including 2 7th-rounders, as well as a 2nd round steal. The TE picks were off-base though. Grade: A-/A
Arizona Arch Arachnids (12-4) (lancereisen)
#16- CB Rick Kindle (B+): Kindle, the fourth CB taken in the first round, should be able to have an impact on the defending champs' secondary, but he needs to improve his tackling. A lot of good players were left on the board.
#32- LB Dan Glare (B+): This was a strange pick, and like Kindle, probably won't help ARI repeat..Linebackers who can't play the run at all can be exploited easily.
#48- DT Grrranimal (B+): This DT has some good points, but the lack of skill could catch up with the physically-gifted young tackle.
#64- WR Getz Mahrt (B+): B+
#80- T Rocky Shoar (B): B
#96- HB Keith Hunley (B): C
#112- LB Condor (B): B
Overall: I think that this draft will keep Arizona from being a real contender to repeat this season, so we will see if there is any impact at all outside of a possible 3rd round returner. Grade: C

#45- WR David Johnson (B): Good potential, but this WR's sub-par speed and execution simply fall in line with CHI's draft this season.

#14- G Marc Fairs (A-): Fairs is extremely disciplined, and he looks to be a good fit at LG for the Wild Card Trojans. It's not the biggest headliner, but it's a very solid pickup.
#30- LB Will Jones (B+): A great overall LB, a few years in New York's system should have this guy making a big impact every game. His downside is trying to catch up to players.
#46- G Blaine Mayer (B+): If this guard improves in agility and execution, he could be 3rd in line, after 1st rounder Fairs and former 1st rounder Carson. Just not sure NYA needed a guard here.
#62- LB Keith Readon (B): C+
#78- LB Doc Mertens (B+): A-
#94- CB Maury Hill (B+): A
#110- LB Bruce Gardner (B+): A-
Overall: All players were picked well and have talent. Unfortunately for New York, I doubt their only needs were at guard and linebacker. So talent grade here is an A-, but they just didn't hit enough needs to keep up. Grade: B/B+
Hamilton Hamiltonians (10-6) (Hamilton2)
#15- G Mike Spikes (A-): Spikes was only the 3rd offensive lineman in the draft, but he might just be the top o-lineman in the draft and should be a mainstay on the Hamilton line for years.
#31- C Eugene Cherry (B+): Centers were another popular position in this draft, and Hamilton wanted to beef up that o-line. Cherry was a steal here, as his hands are what's keeping him down.
#47- LB Len Miles (B+): He has low potential, and not great physical measureables, but in a draft with few good OLBs, HAM got a keeper here.
#63- TE Lybrant Steels (B+): B
#79- TE Jarvis Fowler (B+): C-
#95- DE Al Malbrough (B+): B+
#100- S Mel Duncan (B+): A (Pick Received From San Diego)

Arizona Arch Arachnids (12-4) (lancereisen)
#16- CB Rick Kindle (B+): Kindle, the fourth CB taken in the first round, should be able to have an impact on the defending champs' secondary, but he needs to improve his tackling. A lot of good players were left on the board.
#32- LB Dan Glare (B+): This was a strange pick, and like Kindle, probably won't help ARI repeat..Linebackers who can't play the run at all can be exploited easily.
#48- DT Grrranimal (B+): This DT has some good points, but the lack of skill could catch up with the physically-gifted young tackle.
#64- WR Getz Mahrt (B+): B+
#80- T Rocky Shoar (B): B
#96- HB Keith Hunley (B): C
#112- LB Condor (B): B
Overall: I think that this draft will keep Arizona from being a real contender to repeat this season, so we will see if there is any impact at all outside of a possible 3rd round returner. Grade: C

I drafted almost solely for need and my needs were in the defensive front 7, while Dess may have been a reach at #7 he was my highest ranked DL, just ahead of Glass, and in my mind after that the D line fell off dramatically so I wanted one of them in round one.
To me any reach for Dess is more than made up for by the selection of Dowling at #23, which is a huge steal in my mind, true Dowling will not cover the pass well but his other scores are off the charts so I had him ranked 5th.
I also was very happy with diFillippo who will likely take over as my kicker and I my initial projections have 5 starters emerging from this draft for a team that narrowly missed the playoffs last year.

Interesting analysis, I'm not sure how the overall draft grades were derived but I am personally much happier with my draft than a B-.I drafted almost solely for need and my needs were in the defensive front 7, while Dess may have been a reach at #7 he was my highest ranked DL, just ahead of Glass, and in my mind after that the D line fell off dramatically so I wanted one of them in round one.

I probably was a bit harsh with your B- grade, as it's probably closer to a B/B+. That being said, I probably should have been nicer about Dowling, but I'm still far from sold on Dess. Harts is still dependent on some growth, so we'll see.The biggest reason I didn't like your overall draft is that, while it works for what you were aiming for, which is strengthening the front 7 of your defense, but I just have to wonder if you couldn't have fleshed out more of your roster. That is great work, K, great work. I dont know about everyone else team, but I think the way to go for my team, with a young QB, was to try to solidify the OL and add depth on defense. I played the WC game with 42 players (and had a 52 player squad). I think young, cheap, good players are going to be the key in this league and I am also banking on some of those LBīs being used in different spots. I have never been a defense first guy, but right now, it looks like thats where the game is going to me.

The DT, Glass (pk1) was an intriguing prospect because he had obvious talent but a "?" for potential and attitude. Those numbers turned out to be poor but he has no real downside...he will be a solid DT.
The rest of the picks were guys who probably aren't going to start this year. I still have holes to fill but I'm looking to spend some of that 20k of cap space $$ I got burning a hole in my pocket:P I am looking for starters at WR, DE, and FB. #9- RB Steve Ridgle (B+): The top scat back available, this move only makes sense if the offense depends on a lot of screen passes. The young back has good potential however.
Traded to Hamilton in week 8 of the 1962 season for Ken Braggs, Hamilton's 1963 second round (King Young-CB) and third round (Mark Kurnick-LB) picks.
#25- WR Dick Fryer (B+): Ignoring one of the worst names imaginable, CAL looks to have further improved their passing game--as well as their return game. Just don't let him do post-game interviews.
Traded to Houston prior to the start of the 1961 Regular season for Mike Mergenthal and Houston's 1962 third round pick (Willie Skoglund).
#41- RB Alvin Marshall (B+): CAL picks up their second RB here, but this guy will earn his keep and make his name as one of the league's top returners.
As a rookie Marshall was strictly a back-up HB with only 8 carries and 1 pass reception. For kick and punt returns Marshall contributed 472 yards.
In 1962, Marshall became the starting HB. He rushed for 1004 yards with 9 TDs. He added another 119 yards through the air.
Marshall's third season was marred by an ACL tear that kept him out for 47 days (six games). Despite the injury he still managed 860 offensive yards and 6 TDs. The injury also limited his KR duties to only 385 combined yards.
Going into 1964, Marshall is anticipated to remain the number 1 HB for the Stamp Eaters.
#57- G Orlando Strickland (B+): B+
Number 3 Guard for the Stamp Eaters.
#73- LB Van Holden (B+): A-
Back-up LB (active roster)
#89- G Lew Smith (B+): B-
Waived prior to the start of the 1963 season. No time on the active roster.

Currently on the inactive list, but still with the Stamp Eaters and has appeared in 8 games since being drafted.
Overall: No bad picks here, but we'll see how many holes Calgary actually fixed. Calgary only drafted one defender (though their offense was the unit that needed more help). Props for drafting Dick Fryer though...I wouldn't have had the courage. Grade: B+
My take:
-- The Ridgle trade netted a #2 HB, a starting CB and a #2 ILB. King Young makes this a win for Calgary
-- The Fryer trade netted a #3 WR and a #4 OG. Fryer in Houston's starting WR and has given them 3100 yards and 28 TDs. Mergenthal has not been near those numbers and Skogland only moved to active roster in 1963. Currently the edge goes to Houston on this trade.
-- Marshall is currently 21st in career rushing yards and 17th in career return yards. If he remains healthy those numbers will only improve.
-- Strickland and Holden remain valuable to to the team. Strickland especially is a starter in waiting.
-- Barr's life expectancy is always in question. A picking up a hot, young receiver will likely end Barr's career.

Calgary Stamp Eaters (9-7) (Goldambre)#9- RB Steve Ridgle (B+): The top scat back available, this move only makes sense if the offense depends on a lot of screen passes. The young back has good potential however.
Traded to Hamilton in week 8 of the 1962 season for Ken Braggs, Hamilton's 1963 second round (King Young-CB) and third round (Mark Kurnick-LB) picks.
#25- WR Dick Fryer (B+): Ignoring one of the worst names imaginable, CAL looks to have further improved their passing game--as well as their return game. Just don't let him do post-game interviews.
Traded to Houston prior to the start of the 1961 Regular season for Mike Mergenthal and Houston's 1962 third round pick (Willie Skoglund).
#41- RB Alvin Marshall (B+): CAL picks up their second RB here, but this guy will earn his keep and make his name as one of the league's top returners.
As a rookie Marshall was strictly a back-up HB with only 8 carries and 1 pass reception. For kick and punt returns Marshall contributed 472 yards.
In 1962, Marshall became the starting HB. He rushed for 1004 yards with 9 TDs. He added another 119 yards through the air.
Marshall's third season was marred by an ACL tear that kept him out for 47 days (six games). Despite the injury he still managed 860 offensive yards and 6 TDs. The injury also limited his KR duties to only 385 combined yards.
Going into 1964, Marshall is anticipated to remain the number 1 HB for the Stamp Eaters.
#57- G Orlando Strickland (B+): B+
Number 3 Guard for the Stamp Eaters.
#73- LB Van Holden (B+): A-

#89- G Lew Smith (B+): B-
Waived prior to the start of the 1963 season. No time on the active roster.

Currently on the inactive list, but still with the Stamp Eaters and has appeared in 8 games since being drafted.
Overall: No bad picks here, but we'll see how many holes Calgary actually fixed. Calgary only drafted one defender (though their offense was the unit that needed more help). Props for drafting Dick Fryer though...I wouldn't have had the courage. Grade: B+
My take:
-- The Ridgle trade netted a #2 HB, a starting CB and a #2 ILB. King Young makes this a win for Calgary
-- The Fryer trade netted a #3 WR and a #4 OG. Fryer in Houston's starting WR and has given them 3100 yards and 28 TDs. Mergenthal has not been near those numbers and Skogland only moved to active roster in 1963. Currently the edge goes to Houston on this trade.
-- Marshall is currently 21st in career rushing yards and 17th in career return yards. If he remains healthy those numbers will only improve.
-- Strickland and Holden remain valuable to to the team. Strickland especially is a starter in waiting.
-- Barr's life expectancy is always in question. A picking up a hot, young receiver will likely end Barr's career.

Kotar, the other guard, starts next to Dunek, with my 7th rounder starting in between those two guys. CB Taylor is on the cusp of making the team, depending on the upcoming draft, but White also isn't having a great career. 3rd rounder Harris had a promising start, but his 95 potential never really took off, leaving him to fight for carries even as a starter until losing the job later on.
