The Good
- In first place, off and on. I really liked when we won 15 straight, 20 out of 21, and 27 of 30.
- Jimmy Nichols is tattooing the ball: he leads in MVP voting, is scoring about a run a game. Also leads AL in homers and is toying with a run at 100 RBI ... from the leadoff spot.
- Honorable mentions: Tom Anderson strong out of the gate; Shanahan continues to impress; Heffner finally hitting up to expectations. Surprised even himself, and slipped on that banana peel.
- Bob Butler (8-1) showing his top Irv form. Comes back off injury and twirls a lovely complete-game victory.
- Bret Saberhagen (7-2) has already matched his 1968 win total. This year's ERA (8.50) slightly higher, though.
- Dick Sloan coping well with the pressure of being our go-to guy in the bullpen; it helps to have Allen Brock backing him up.
The Bad
- Tough competition in the AL this year. (Actually, I think this is good. The pennant race this year could get really wild.)
- Maybe Dom Gooden wasn't quite ready for a starting gig.
The Ugly
- Matt's mood when Baltimore has its annual meltdown.

1969 Mid-Season Report
The Good
- Jack Edwards having another All-Star type season.
- Vallie Shea, Ed Pierotti and Randy Higham doing solid work in the pen.
- Faedo, Wheat and Reninger hitting well.
The Bad
- Nobody else on this team can hit at all. Poor seasons by Rico, Gruber, Vaughan, Corwin, McLaughlin, etc. Makes for some really boring baseball.
- Sonny Fuchs seems to have declined two years early.
- The inevitable long-term injury to Ray LaGrow. ABE just can't stand to see a young player play a full season.
The Ugly
- Ray Cooper's stats.

The Good
- The next generation of hitting stars of Dave Hathaway, Joe Drago, Bobby Theriot, and Ernie Feller are getting some valuable playing time.
- Two more young hitters in Johnny Keck and Dave Doyle almost ready for the big leagues.
- We're hanging around in the race for a playoff spot but it's gonna take a big effort from the boys in the second half to make the palyoffs.
- Dick Cox gets his 3,000th hit and continues to play at a high level.
The Bad
Tom Bennett is starting to fade and there are no fresh arms coming up from the farm.
- Trevor Umphlett and Dan Ausanio were supposed to be the future anchors of the bullpen but both have struggled all season.
The Ugly
- The demise of the pitching staff as a force has been a painful sight for a franchise that has always been led by strong pitching.
Management Thoughts
- It looks like it is time to decide if this is the time to either trade for an extra veteran arm or two to make a playoff run or begin trading vets for pick and stars and begin the rebuilding process.
- Bill Ullrich will be available in the offseason or now for either a veteran arm(s) or a future draft choice.

Brooklyn Superbas
The Good
Herb Hippauf leading Fireman voting with 6 wins
and 24 saves against only 1 blown
Slim Marshall doing yeoman relief work
The team leads in Team Saves with 35 and only 3 blown
Mike Melendez with 11 wins (helped by the bullpen)
Greg Noyes batting .316 with 16 homers and 80 RBIs
Mark Hernandez batting .312
The Team is playing at a .600 clip
The Bad
The hitting of Honeycutt and Hennessey
The Ugly
The spotty record of the starters
Management thoughts
The team has broken through this season and
should be a playoff contender in the years to come
provided that starting pitching can hold up. The
addition of Mike Johnson will help.,

Little Lebowski Urban Achievers
1969 Mid-Season Report
The Good
--Trying not to sound like too much of a broken record, but I keep getting solid production from 34+ vets.
-- 1B platoon of Roberto Sosa and Steve Tresh much better than expected
--Team defense fairly good
--These old dudes are leading the league in triples.
--1-2-3 bullpen punch of Turk Lown (2.77), Bugsy Malone (2.23), and MVPNBR candidate Bill Rhodes (1.96) have been excellent.
The Bad
--Zig Porter's on base problems with righties.
--Starter ERA's not great. Then again, do any SPs have good ERAs?
--Team only 10th in HRs
--Elwood has apparently forgotten how to play CF.
The Ugly
--nothing yet, but this team keeps getting older and the youngsters to fill the gaps just ain't there. Glad to still be competing, but the fall is gonna be ugly.
