I'm surprised that you actually believed it would be interesting. Much as I love The Daily Show, they soft-peddle their guests, and Gates is essentially an untouchable figure outside of the computer-nerd community because he's become one of the world's leading philanthropers.

Pists. Philanthropists.

Philanthropers are "people who love the Ropers."

Who says I wasn't referring to Bill Gates being a huge fan of "Three's Company" before that schmuck Don Knotts got the gig?

(Seriously though, fuck you.)

Ich erschließe Ihre Innere mit einem Paar der rostigen Schere.

So can you tell me this - German, or Italian?

You didn't really need babelfish to tell you that, did you?

And did you not pick up on the fact that Furious was staking his claim as the second person in the whole universe to needle me about my Daily Double Disaster?

Because, of course, you were the first.

No Maxie, I knew it was German, but my 1/2 semester of German did not prepare me to understand WTF he was saying...

I have been amazed that more people haven't given me crap about that boneheaded (and costly) response. I am trying to convince myself that the reason more people don't tease me about it is that nobody else knew the answer either.

But I think the real reason is a big stew of pity, shame, and thinly veiled loathing. And that's just my family.

You fucked yourself with that. You get it and you cruise on through. You missed it and wanted to quit and thus became trigger-scared.

I'd guesstimate that about 57.4% of the SD community knew it was German.

Incorrect. I rang in on the very next question for $1000. Being trigger-scared had nothing to do with it.

I'm convinced in retrospect that the woman who vanquished me made an adjustment and started hitting her buzzer at the sound of Trebek's voice rather than at the sight of the lights that they trained us to respond to. I believe that that adjustment, which it did not occur to me to make, is what allowed her to steamroll us (and the next two shows as well).

If you look at the video you can see my hand furiously clicking on more than a dozen responses in Double Jeopardy that Julie got right. I wasn't trigger-scared at all--just slow to react.

I did notice a few times that you were furiously clicking away only to miss out to Julie.

I am wrong, but it did look as though you got a little trigger-scared.

That said, you kicked their ass for more than half the 1st round, I mean not even close. For that, I commend you. And I think you don't get much shit for missing a fairly easy question because 99.8% of the SD community(as well as your friends and family in NC) would NEVER be able to make it to the show.

As I told you before you went, the biggest key is the timing... In games 2-3 I was much more prepared and buzzed in at a higher percentage... it is the hidden "home field advantage" for the champ.

OK, I see what you mean. Well, I readily admit that the last five questions were (and still are) a complete blur to me--it was a category about roses, for god's sake. At that point, once I was mathematically eliminated, my mind was totally gone. Those roses questions were as new to me on the broadcast as they were to you guys. So by the end of the game my mental state was not great at all.

The "Eagles Songs in Other Words" category was near the end, and I was super-sharp for that category--just not fast enough on the buzzer.

You were on national television, Dave, max, Dax, etc.

That's more than some of us can say for ourselves. I write for a newspaper that is attempted to be read by morons who can barely keep their pants on in public.
