The thing to remember here is that you've just had your initial draft. Because of that your players have more value than they would in a more established league because they're not as likely to retire. In an established league you've got a pitcher like Diastro who'll be looking at retirement in three years and a hitter like who at OS36 would likely retire this year or maybe next. In a league like yours however, initial draft players don't have a personal history and so have a tendancy to hang around longer. You have to play them to have them stay but an .800 OPS on a guy with no history is a lot different than an .800 OPS on a guy who's been over .900 for a decade.

Now, as to the trade itself, Appier is nothing special. At 20 he's still a C/C+ and while he'll develop some he's not likely to ever see red letters next to his name. If you push him hard at developing he can make B/B+ by the time he's 28 but that's about his max. Now if you had him at age 17 he's be a CY canidate. Benz on the other hand can develop into a nice little player. He's OS22 and has A- power. His contact is a little low but he can bring it up to be C+ and if he can get his power into the A+ range he can be a good 30 home run guy who strikes out a lot and hits about .260-.270. He also brings some young power to your team when you don't have any.

The second round pick has a little value
I'd counter and ask for Benz and McGloghlin. Philadelphia has CPs on 7 guys and needs to consolidate that a bit IMO and McGloghlin can evolve into a solid pitcher.

Thanks, it sounds like your saying that 2nd rd picks dont have that much value. Is it basically a first round pick that has the value?

Its not that a second round pick has no value I've developed quality players from every round, however, most of the time you're going to find your top prospects in the first round. The problem with draft picks is that you can only develop three players at a time and so accumulating a bunch of picks isn't that helpful. Seconds have some value, thirds have a very limited value while 4th and 5th round picks have almost no value in the trade market
