The greatest show in television returns from a looooooooooooong two-year hiatus on September 10. Even Simmons gets in on the act in his column today - although he's 4 years behind, I give him credit for finally discovering it. Discuss.

What show returns on Sept 10?
Since I have already waved the flag of uncool I will go ahead and say, Deadwood=Greatest show on TV. Earl is real nice but I doubt after 1 season you could call it great.

Deadwood bores the shit out of me, although I can understand why people like it. You're on the right track though, and no, it's not "Earl". "The Office" is quite a bit better than "Earl" anyway.

Looked it up, and it appears it's something known as "The Wire."

aka something that comes on when I'm not at home.

It's on HBO. Unless you are literally never home (like, for instance, you choose to sleep in a dumpster instead of your own bed), it comes on at some point when you are home. For the love of all things holy, if you like good TV and you have HBO, I command each and every one of you to watch it. It is better than The Sopranos (especially now, since the last season of The Sopranos s-u-q-u-e-d), better than Deadwood, better than Big Love (which had a very strong rookie season), better even than Lost or 24 or any of those cookie-cutter procedurals that take up so much of the valuable airtime of the networks. It is better than 10 Super Bowls. Watch it.

But is it better than the new Poochie?

I had that line in my head because I just watched that episode on the season 8 DVD last night.

But let's not get off the subject. The Wire is awesome. Oh, and for you Tom Waits weirdos, it uses a Waits song (done by a different artist each season) as its theme song. It also makes Jason Whitlock columns 26% less terrible (actually, I kind of like Whitlock, but I know a lot of people think he sucks). It makes the sun shine a little more brightly and the air smell a little bit sweeter.

It won't be better than 24, but I just got cable so I can actually watch it now I guess...

It is better, and it will continue to be better. That is not to impugn 24, a fine show. But 'tis no Wire.

The only thing I've done at home recently is check my teams before bed.

I've eaten, schooled, and travelled the rest of the time. I haven't even experienced a good squat period in my own fucking house... Bizzy bizzy bizzy.

Isn't The Wire about urban life? I dont think I need to watch some Liberal Pinko commie show tell me the white man keeps the Brother man down.
I watched some of the show's first season and it was about some drug dealers and stuff. Sorry FG the only thing it's got going for it is the Waits song theme which I have just learned about.
HBO emailed me to tell me that the show was starting and it has a theme of "No corner left behind". SO with out seeing a episode we know its going to knock the "No Child Left Behind" Bush Ed plan. Which we all know was the sort of dog and pony show that people can nod their heads at when the talking heads talk about how great it is gonna be. I dont need a T.V. show to let me know it aint working, which is what this Pinko Commie show is gonna do. BUT since you like it so much I will watch the first 3 episodes of the new season and if I like it I will retract my entire sacastic commentary.

Random thought-
Is this the show with the 2 guys steal something (like a fridge) and the guy they stold it from tracks them down with his wife in the car and starts threating them with a bat?

In other news, Squidbillies is making a second season appearance itself beginning September 19th.

Well, ignoring the use of the verb "stold"....I have no idea if that happened on The Wire. I guess it could have happened, but I have no specific memory of it. Then again, if it did happen, and you reduced an entire episode in your mind to that capsule, maybe you won't like the show. I'm pretty sure that about 85-90% of the people who watch The Sopranos couldn't care less about the underlying ideas of the show and just want to see people get whacked in more and more creative ways. If you watch The Wire and you reduce it to "some drug dealers and stuff" then maybe you're right, and you should just stick to safe network programming and shows that use the term "cocksucker" ad nauseum.

LOL I did not mean thats what the episode was about. It was a small event in the episode. But like I said, I'll watch 3 episodes. Besides I think my roommate is a big fan of the wire. I will ask him latter, I he is then I will have to say it might be good. Aside from his sick ablility to watch "driving Force" over and over he has pretty good taste in shows.

I like the charging wire to my cellphone. Long, black, shiny, kinda like a snake.

It was actually 15 days short of being gone for one year. I speak of course of Family Guy, the true best show on TV. September 10, 9:00 ET on FOX, not some piece of shnick on HBO.
