In short, the Braves streak is over, and they are lucky if they are in the Wildcard hunt at the end of the year...they will definately need to add some peices to have a chance(BTW Im a Braves fan just starting a conco.)

With the Braves losing 23 of thier last 29 games and sliding to 14.5 games behing the NL leading Mets heading into thier weekend series with the orioles in which they will see Leo Mazzone sitting in the Visitor's Dugout in Atlanta for the first time in 16 years one has to think that this streak is over. I mean the bullpen has blown 16 of 32 save opportunties this year, Smoltz has been the only consistent member of the rotation and he's had 6 of his gems blown out by the bullpen. Their leadoff hitter has a sub-.325 OBP, the Jones boys are struggling and the only player on thier team who seems to be able to consistently hit the ball is thier sohpmore catcher Brian McCann at 353. The only other player on the team hitting .300 is Edgar Renterria who is one ground-out from being under .300. They also have 6 regular starters in the top 37 in Strikeouts for the NL. The only regs not in the top 40 are Renterria and McCann, both of whome have missed games due to injury this year...In short, the Braves streak is over, and they are lucky if they are in the Wildcard hunt at the end of the year...they will definately need to add some peices to have a chance(BTW Im a Braves fan just starting a conco.)

I honestly still think they have a chance to be in there for the Wild Card but that is more of a testament to the horrid NL than the braves...

They're back by 7.5 with 11 teams in front of them. Quite a mountain to climb for a crappy team

Milwaukee -1.5
Houston -2
Arizona -4.5

Looking at that List I notice 3 things:
1. All teams from the West are in there...leading one to believe that like last year, the winner of the division will prob be the only one over .500
2. Cincinatti and Milwaukee are built to have bad 2nd Halfs especially when you look at thier schedules.
3. Atlanta has a bunch of games against Philly remaining where they can potentially pick up some ground. Leaving Houston as the only team in the race who is built well AND has a good enough schedule to make it really hard for the Braves to catch.
The question will be can the Braves shore up thier bullpen so they can prevent blowing 17 saves in the second half. Since Sosa gave up that 2 run blast to ARod to lose that game in New York 9 Days ago the Braves have gained 2 games and jumped over 2 teams in the Wold Card race in the N.L. Based on the Braves record over the last 14 years in the second half of the season, Id say thier chances are pretty good. Also lets not forget that the Mets pitching staff is already tsrateing to slow down and the Braves have 10 games remaining with them. It will be an interesting 2nd Half to see how the N.L. will pan out because there are so many teams in it.

Well if you remove the 3 Div Leaders they are 7 Games back with 8 Teams ahead of them. The Current NL WC Standings are like this:Colorado
Los Angeles -0.5

Braves win 7 straight, have score 65 runs in the 5 games since the break, and are now 4 games out of first.

You mean 11.5 games out of first. Let's not confuse the wild card race with the N.L. East, which the Mets control quite comfortably. The wild card is not the same as a 15th division title.

How ironic it would be if the Braves took the wild card, went to the World Series, and then, actually won it. And with a roster full of true hometown heros. If this were anywhere besides NY, LA, Chicago and Atlanta, that would be a good story...

91 and 92 were my favorite world series of all time, I hate the Yankees.

What a home-stand. this was how June started. I still have faith that these guys can turn it around, the next 2 series will be crucial.

One might reasonably assume that every series for the Braves is now "crutial" since they are 6 and a half games out of any sort of postseason spot and behind 8 other teams.
