Anyone listen to Wilco?
I have a "Ghost is born" and "AM". Which album should I pick up next?

I just yesterday checked out Being There and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot from the library, but I haven't listened to them yet. I think I have Summerteeth, which is pretty cool.

You now own their two worst albums. Which is a relative term, but still. Your aim is on the mark.

The easiest intro to Wilco is probably Summerteeth. Their best album is still Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, although some will tell you it's Being There. Those people are wrong.

The first disc of "Being There" is very nice, and "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" is even better.

Don't get me wrong, I like Being There, but it definitely gets filed under "Double albums that should have been single albums". In fact, to help out bands who are contemplating going down the double album road, I give them this advice free of charge:

You are not a rock god.
You do not have enough good material to fill two albums.
8 minutes and 47 seconds of feedback and incoherent chanting is not a song.
No one wants to hear a 70 minute, 6 song cycle about the Crimean War.
Please, please, remove the chaff, pare it down to one album. Your record company and the buying public will thank you.

Did someone really record this If so I would love to hear it. I am a avid historian and would love this. Spanish Bombs is one of my fav Clash sings.

Haha. No, not yet. But some day...some day. My money's on The Mars Volta.

London Calling is obviously one of the exceptions here, although to be fair Sandinista is clearly not an exception. I would argue that George Martin was right about The White Album as well.

I like Summerteeth most of all. YHF is excellent as well. These are the only two I have listened to more than once or twice.

I never got into Wilco much, but even I gave Yankee Hotel Foxtrot a few spins in my player, great stuff...

Exile on Main Street is a superior double album.

For my money everything before Tatoo You was great. Emotional Rescue being not so good. Let it Bleed and Some Girls being 2 great rock and roll albums. But to not go to off topic Exile is a great album.

Other good double albums:

Blonde on Blonde
Double Nickels on the Dime
Daydream Nation (though it is tough to get through)

It's nice to see "though," "tough" and "through" all in the same sentence. What an f-ed up language we have!

I bought Summerteeth and I have listened to it 2x already while at work. I have a 2 hour drive ahead of me tonight after work so I will be able to pass a complete judgment later but so far I like it a lot.

I have been listening to it a lot and really enjoy it. The next album I buy will be YHF.

When I bought Summerteeth I saw a Kraftwerk album...I did not have the guts to try it out though. Just thought I would share that.

This almost certainly goes without saying, but you should probably go ahead and ignore foliage's advice on this. And most things.

I, for one, have always valued your opinion, Foliage, and am shocked that you would hold Kraftwerk in such low regard. Shocked, I tell you.

Must-have Kraftwerk albums include Computer Love, Trans Europe Express, Autobahn and The Man-Machine. If you have even a passing interest in electronic music, they are about as good as it comes.

I had a friend in high school, in the mid 80s, that listened to them. I listened to a few of their albums. I thought they sucked. Perhaps I'm not "open minded" enough to truly appreciate their genius.

No. You're not. Go listen to Kansas.
