Welcome new owners

May 09, 2006 at 01:35PM View BBCode

This is a thread i have started to welcome you to the BHL and to allow myself and other owners to post advice and hints if your not brand new you want to read this for info just on the BHL, if you are brand new you need all the help you can get. This is a very competetive league with some very good owners. So good luck to all.:spin:

My first piece of advice is get ready you are about to be bombarded with a TON of trade offers. My advice turn all of them down / at least until you get a handle on what is happeneing in the BHL. Give yourself a chance to evaluate the talent level of your team as well as the other teams. You will receive all kinds of advice from owners about how to fix your team which will of course include trading your 1st round draft pick for 3 of their later picks. DO NOT TRADE YOUR #1 draft picks period (believe me all # 1 picks are not created equally) this is how you build your team and also make it your own. You will also hear some lines about how #2 picks became all-stars and #3 picks are good now (anyone can become better with coaching points on them long enough but # 1 picks are generally alot
better alot quicker). If you do decide to trade good players or picks shop them publicly on the message board and see what you might get from other owners. If your brand new go to the questions and answers board and get unbiased opinions. Everybody will test you try to get to you first. Take your time and research your trade offers. I personally do not like to make offers to the new teams for at least 20 games to try and give them a chance to catch their breath but believe me you will be bombarded and if you want more offers all u have to do is say this is your first team. Good Luck. Hopefully others will follow this post up with helpful hints.

Yep I don't like the idea of limiting teams (new teams) trading ability a new team could be a veteran of 10 seasons or he could be brand new I hope everyone will give input I hope that everyone leaves out personal attacks that is not what this thread is meant to do and we all can give some good advice that will benefit the overall wellness of the league.

Hello! I'm the new Owner of the Detroit Tigers. Looking forward to a new challenge. I have no problem with trade offers. If they don't provide me some benefit, I have no problems turning them down. I've seem many sugar coated trade offers. That's ok. Owners are trying to sell it but I'll make my own determination of what I think of the trade offer anyway.

I haven't had tons of success but I'm not a newbie either. Just lost the WS in one of my other leagues 4 games to 1. Oh well.

Pittsburgh, there is a curse in your town for baseball. The previous owner could never get that team off of the ground. It is alot of fun to build a team from scratch. Luckily i had a couple of good veterans that got me some young players. Time will tell if it pays off, but im having fun with this team. You have 2 first rounders, and you can make something out of late draft picks if you spend some time on your draft rankings. Even if they are just temporary gap fillers as you build. My 2 cents (take it for what its worth): You need to dump Herman Watson, he is useless. Start DeLancey at 5, for lack of a better option. Move Huffman to closer and Queenie to middle, and give them the max innings. Draft someone to pitch, or at least try to. Keep Leverenz as a starter somewhere so you have a C+ mentoring grade. You arent too bad off, just draft well. You can rebuild, you have the technology.

The Expansion Draft is done / Now let everyone in the league explain to you what you need to do with your team. Of course it will include trading away your All-Star 3rd Basemen and your #1 draft pick for a Truckload of Waiver Wire Horse ............well you get the point. I would say the angle on each team will be Philly is rebuilding and will need all youngins but Baltimore and Detroit have enough talent to be sucked into the if you only had a this or that.
Never (wel rarely) take anyones first offer it is usually the lowbal offer or just a starting point, negotiate hard and don't be scared to walk away from the table. Good Luck all.

and dont be affraid, if youre not sure, to put on this board an offer that you received, we'll be glad to give you a neutral point of view

My advice: Take every bit of advice with a grain of salt.

Everybody has ulterior motives and everybody's views are slanted by their own agenda. If you really need advice, you are kinda screwed because you never know what you are getting from within the league and nobody outside the league can give you sound advice because they don't know the talent makeup of the league.

Good advice Meat thats why I think it is better for an owner to wait a few weeks, get a chance to evaluate all the talent in the league and figure out what teams are rebuilding, reloading and whatever everybody else is doing. Some advice on the main board is good but you can't be sure that any you get in the league is any good of course each owner is talking about everybody else just take your time.

I would like to express my own welcome to the new owners.

Welcome Anihil8er, fabman and woobie.

I think Meat is right in saying that all opinions are slanted. Be sure that if an unfair trade is made you will be hearing about it...

Anihil and woobie haven?t said yet if they were green or have some experience in sim. Let us know as soon as you guys can. My advice is to take a look at the trading history of the BHL in order to get some feeling of what is fair and what is not. Please note that some of this years trades done by Pittsburgh were highly contested so don?t take those as examples. But most of the trades make some sense. But all in all it will be your responsibility to judge quickly what is a good trade and what is not. Don?t hesitate to trade once you are knowledgble of what is good for you since that is one of the fun aspects of sim.

Have some fun that?s what counts. Most of owners of this league are very good competitors and are well implicated. Don?t hesitate to post messages since communicating your ideas and opinions id fun to read and adds to the fun and competition.

Please describe your need in your profile in order to let all the other teams what you are looking for or who you want to trade.

Welcome!

EC

Who will be the owner that secretly U2's or e-mails the new owners telling them this thread is an attempt to keep them from improving their teams, that we don't like new owners coming in and winning and that this is a conspiracy against them, and that they are the only ones to be trusted. Who will be that owner........... :puzzled:

OK....Here is the new guy........I am Anihill8er.
I am kinda new to Sim Dynasty. I have played 3 free single seasons and won all three easily so I decided to bite the bullet and try my hand at a real team.
Here is what I think my needs are at this point.
1. First and formost I did not draft a catcher. I am in a bit of a pickle because I am assuming I cannot play anyone else at that posiotion. I cannot set my lineups. Anyone have any catcher at all I would be interested.
2. I like my pitching staff so don't ask for any of these guys.
3. I have 3 decent 3rd baseman. I would be willing to trade one of these guys.
Any old timers want to take a look at my team and give me some good advice....I am always willing to learn.

Thanks for the welcome and have a great year.

welcome anihill8er

I can answer the catcher question. You can always play somebody out of position (although the rules are slowly changing; team will eventually be required to have two catchers). You *can* play somebody out-of-position at catcher (I have been doing that for a a couple of seasons -- it is very *slow* going as most position players 'learn' to catch at about 0.2% per game)

Hey madturk,
Thanks for the help. I went ahead and picked up a catcher on waivers and he is doing very well so far. I am going to keep him and see how it goes.

Hello everyone

I am the new owner in Philadelphia. You will be glad to hear that i am new to this web-site . So far I am enjoying this very much and I find myself check the web-site very often during the day (most of the time at work). I have noticed a couple of owners have already given me offers trying to pick on the rook. Despite denying the trades I am very active and very willing to make trades. I look forward to many seasons of good competition. Go Fightins

Welcome Woobie, ny advice take your time you have a very young team and it will take a while for you to be competetive. Do not get frustrated. It is alot of fun rebuilding a team. Don't look for quick fixes. When I first started I really wanted to win bad but I didn't have the players I wasted a couple of seasons before I let the General Manager run the team instead of the coach. My advice let the GM be the man. :D
