Potential Site Problems This Week
April 17, 2006 at 04:28PM View BBCode
As some of you have seen discussed the last few weeks, we've decided to move the system over to a new hosting company. We started having a lot of problems with the old one, and while the new one cost nearly 3 times as much, they will do a lot of the maintenace and make sure the site stays up.
We're hoping to have everything moved over by the end of the week or so. During this week we'll be moving over databases and slowly transfering things. This may cause some periodic down times for a few minutes here and there, typically these wont last more than a short time.
We also anticipate having to take down the site for a day sometime next week to complete the transition. We'll have more info on this when we get closer. We appologize for the inconvience and appreciate your patience. When this is all done we'll see a faster, and significantly more reliable system.

when you say faster system, does that mean that pages will load faster, or games will be played faster, or both? When I say games played faster, I mean, will my dynasty league games be played closer to the times in the rule book, instead of half an hour later.

I doubt that the dynasty game times will improve much. I'm talking about general load time for various pages and some of the lag we've had in the past at various times should be reduced.
The problem with the dynasty game times is that they have to run sequentially through the leagues. Once the simulator finishes up with one league, it needs to move on to the next. The whole process of simulating games takes about 1 minute for each league, usually less than a minute. This varies slightly due to several factors such as the number of hits, walks, errors, and runs scored. So the top few leagues should run on time, and each league down the list running after that. We've got about 50 dynasty leagues now, and during the course of running the games for them, several private leagues will run their games also, adding to the number.
Basically the game times we have for dynasty are for when they begin simulating. You might see a little more consistancy in the times for your league with the new server. But each league will still have to wait it's turn.

yes, I know, I was just wondering if that 1 minute/league would be faster on the new server. Was it always 1 minute/league? I remember it used to be only 20 minutes after the posted time, but I guess the added private leagues have slowed it down.
