Hot Potato, please read and participate!

January 17, 2006 at 06:57PM View BBCode

Alright, time to unleash the Hot Potato experiment.

As you may or may not know, there are a couple of "hacky-sack" type threads out there where the goal is simply to have the most "reads" [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/oldforum-viewthread.jsp?tid=83614]See This one, 28k+ reads[/url], or most replies [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/oldforum-viewthread.jsp?tid=29493]6k+ replies to this one.[/url]

I'd like to introduce [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=2529559]Huck "The Hot" Potato[/url]. The idea is to see how many times this 17 y/o can get traded over the course of his career before hanging up his well traveled spikes. Considering the pace of this league (slow) and that we have active owners, this could be 50+ per season???

Here's the rules

1) If you've got the Potato, you should make a trade offer to the *2* clubs directly below you in the current standings. If you are at the bottom of the NL, then wrap around to the top of the AL. If you are at the bottom of the AL, then wrap to the top of the NL.

2) Trade offer should be for no return compensation. Just go to the trade screen, choose the team, then click "Propose Trade" without selecting anything in return from the other team. Offer up Potato with a brief explanation to see the message board (for the first round, just in case somebody didn't read this yet).

3) If you are offered Potato, please accept the trade and re-offer him to the next 2 teams below you on the standings.

4) Repeat, repeat, repeat.

FAQ:
- Why? Why not.
- Do I have to participate. No, just reply below with your team name that you don't want to be a part of this ridiculous exercise.
- Why offer to 2 teams? To keep the Potato moving, twice the likelihood that someone will accept and re-trade him promptly.
- What if I want to keep him on my team? You won't, he's a slug.
- Won't it hurt my IC's in the minors? No, not if you keep him moving!
- Can I reject the offer? Sure, but please list your name and team on this thread so you don't get bugged again in the future.
- Won't this clog up the tranactions/news? Yeah, that's about the only real downside here. If it proves to be a problem that I will be the first to agree to put the Potato out to permanent pasture.
- What the hell's wrong with you Brian? oh, let's not even get started on that one......

*** List of teams not participating, please respect their choice, thanx ***
1) AL - Chicago Black Sox.

looks like i am the huckster's 9th team. in the line for 1956, cleveland is the last team (his 8th) listed. i wonder if 8 is the max per line on the stats page?

I don't want to do this. Chicago Black Sox.

This is more exciting than watching my team get demolished - I was tempted to keep him, considering the rate at which my guys are either getting injured or massively sucking this season. But in the interest of nonsensical whimsy - I've offered him up.

P.S. You're weird bro, but cool idea.

Yeah, seems to be the case. A little disappointing. I wanted to see the endless list of teams on the stat line. He's currently on his 10th team of the year. I'd like to see him hit all 16 (I know, but not everyone is participating).

He's hit 7 of the 8 NL teams, all except PIT.
3 of the 8 AL.

Not that I'm changing the plan (subject to discussion), but maybe we push for him to just hit all 16 teams each season, then let him relax on the WW until next year? then repeat? Seems like that may be sustainable long term.

If it comes down to getting him on all 16 rosters, I will participate. If I can't find someone to drop from this underwhelming team, I'm not trying.

With his current stint in PIT, Huck has made it through the entire NL. How about it AL?
