NL battle for first

In what appears to be the beginning of a season-long battle, the Ramblers and the defending champion Chicago Demolition are hooking up in a series today. The Ramblers have taken the first 2 games, extending their winning streak to 7 games, and have moved to within one game of Chicago.

The Ramblers have swept the series winning game 3 behind the pitching of Kyle Preston and have now tied the Demolition for 1st place!

Today, the Ramblers swept the Demolition at Chicago, not with their league-leading pitching, but by outslugging the powerful Demolition, scoring 26 runs in the 3 games. The Ramblers have now taken a 2-game lead in the NL!

Usually content to play the role of spoiler at best, Pittsburgh is fighting for a shot at the playoffs this season. But those hopes took a huge blow this weekend after getting swept by the Chicago Demolition. Pittsburgh had hoped to gain some ground on Chicago and Philadelphia, the two teams battling it out for first place. But the sweep put them 7 games behind Chicago, and 8 games behind the current leader, Philadelphia.Congrats to Chicago on a well played series, winning the last 2 games by 1 run each.

But to me, I'm always COMPLETELY dumbfounded when I look to the American League. How KC loses is beyond me, and I'm looking at Washington, and I just don't see first place by a large margin. I guess that's why you play the games.
Anyhow, I'm back in first. Despite giving up Borgia & Soriano, I upgraded my team by NOT playing Carson at SP anymore. Forcing a C endurance to go 8 innings is a guaranteed loss every 5th game! Now, if Pitt can manage to stay close long enough, or pull off a big trade, I'll be forced to bench another one of my young SP's for Prior.
Looking forward to a good season, but I'm not going to keep an eye out until around 9/01.

Philly & Chicago have been going stride for stride for most of this season, neither team leading the other by more than 2 games for quite a while. The 2 teams are currently in the midst of a 3-game series against each other, and the Demolition have blown out the Ramblers, scoring 26 runs in the 2 games with Clement (#2 starter) & Collins (#3 starter) starting the games. Now 1 game behind, the Ramblers hope to get back on track in game 3 and continue to keep pace with Chicago.

Game 3 was a shutout win by Chicago, won by Mickey Outlaw, an original Rambler draftee in 1950, who is now 22-1 on the season. Chicago outscored the Ramblers, 32-11 in this series. With the season approaching the 3/4 mark, the Ramblers look forward to their next meeting with the Demolition to get these wins back.

So, yes, the Demolition were more than happy to find their offense continues to carry them, along with Outlaw's domination.
STILL, I am more SHOCKED to see KC not in first place, and struggling for a playoff spot.
Hope you guys had as good a Christmas as I did.

Yes, the Demolition have been more than happy to hold first place since trading away Borgia & Soriano, a move made to keep the core of the Demolition youthful. This trade, and the commitment to develop some young hitters/ young pitchers weakens my regular season lineup/rotation. I thought I might fall off, but figured it was worth trying for a while.So, yes, the Demolition were more than happy to find their offense continues to carry them, along with Outlaw's domination.
STILL, I am more SHOCKED to see KC not in first place, and struggling for a playoff spot.
