Simon Says Football Picks

November 26, 2005 at 01:30PM View BBCode

Note I am 91-69 so far (privately) and will not track ATS
Also note that Denver/Dallas and Atlanta/Detroit were picked before Thanksgiving:
Atlanta 41 @Detroit 9
This one isn't even going to be close
Denver 30 @Dallas 21
This is a good game, but Denver will win it.
Carolina 22 @Buffalo 0
Another blowout. Carolina should dominate this game.
@Cincinatti 40 Baltimore 9
Not even close. Chad Johnson should dominate the Raven's depleted D.
@Tennessee 7 San Francisco 3
As one of my favorite phrases, I'm entitled to say it. Close does not mean good. This game is close, but not good.
New England 14 @Kansas City 13
*****MARQUEE MATCHUP***** Well, it's a good game. Gotta go with the Pats, though.
@Minnesota 14 Cleveland 9
Cleveland is the worst. Minnesota is bad, but should win at home.
@Tampa Bay 9 Chicago 0
Two good D's ought to be a low-scoring game, but Tampa will win at home.
San Diego 41 @Washington 6
Another blowout. I'm getting tired of them.
St. Louis 49 @Houston 0
UGGGGGGGHHH! I'M GONNA BLOW MYSELF UP IF THERE'S ANOTHER BLOWOUT!!!!!
@Philladelphia 9 Green Bay 0
At the beginning of the year, this looked like a good game. It will be close without T.O. but close does not mean good.
@Seattle 14 New York Giants 10
Great Game. Seattle should win, though at home.
Miami 14 @Oakland 0
Once again, close, not good.
Jacksonville 40 @Arizona 0
THAT'S IT! ANOTHER BLOWOUT! NFL, I'M BLOWING YOU UP!!! (Just kidding :) ) Well, at least Leftwich is on my fantasy team.
New Orleans 14 @New York Jets 9
Okay, this is Sunday Night Football, and they'll be lucky to draw a 0.5 rating. And if they do, it will be because people tuned into NFL Primetime, and then didn't turn their TV sets off before the game started. (Laziness, forgetfulness, eh)
@Indianapolis 33 Pittsburgh 30
Going to be a great game. But one of only 3 this week.

you think NE and KC only combine for 27 points? I bet one of those teams scores 27 by themselves.

TEN only puts up 7 points on SF?

TB needs Cadillac to run, and he won't against the CHI D. Simms will be forced into mistakes and the hot Bears keep rolling.

SD blows out WASH? Doubt it. Game will be MUCH closer than 41-6.

Jamie Martin's going to guide StL to 49 points? No chance.

Philly's in a downward spiral and I don't care if they are at home and are playing GB. Favre wins this game.

Giants are terrible on the road, SEA rolls, 27-13.

Miami's going to walk into Oakland and not only win, but shutout OAK? Are you alright? Oakland wins.

Jacksonville will win, but this game will not be a blowout. In case you forgot, AZ rolled over StL on the road last week.

IND-PIT will not be as high-scoring as you predict, but I agree, IND will win again.

Come on, they're Tennessee! No offense, blockhedad!

TB needs Cadillac to run, and he won't against the CHI D. Simms will be forced into mistakes and the hot Bears keep rolling.
That ain't gonna happen
SD blows out WASH? Doubt it. Game will be MUCH closer than 41-6.
No, it won't.
Jamie Martin's going to guide StL to 49 points? No chance.
Yes, he will! Against Houston, the D willl get 14
Philly's in a downward spiral and I don't care if they are at home and are playing GB. Favre wins this game.
Favre has nothing behind him
Giants are terrible on the road, SEA rolls, 27-13.
I picked them to win
Miami's going to walk into Oakland and not only win, but shutout OAK? Are you alright? Oakland wins.
[font=Andale Mono]Oakland has no offense[/font]
Jacksonville will win, but this game will not be a blowout. In case you forgot, AZ rolled over StL on the road last week.
Well, Arizona could roll over Houston, and St. Louis could, your logic is off
IND-PIT will not be as high-scoring as you predict, but I agree, IND will win again.
YES IT WILL

I will personally predict Chris Brown has 2 TD's by himself.

Let me know how TB is gonna score against CHI. And let me know how the TB D is going to shut them out.

StL's D will score 2 TD's? You're insane.

Favre has a couple WR's and a TE to throw to. Favre will throw 40+ passes.

Oakland has no offense? Are you kidding me? They are 14th in the NFL in YPG and PPG.

Please tell me how IND and PIT, with two of the better D's in the game, will score 60+ points.

When you make arguments, use some logic instead of just saying that what you predict MUST happen.

No

a) Self-explanatory b) Chicago has to come down to Earth sometime

StL's D will score 2 TD's? You're insane.
Normally, yes, but I give Carr 3 fumbles alone, and 2 INT's easily
Favre has a couple WR's and a TE to throw to. Favre will throw 40+ passes.
Yeah, sure, and how many will he complete?
Oakland has no offense? Are you kidding me? They are 14th in the NFL in YPG and PPG.
O-kay, but look at the scores: 30, 3, 27, 7,..... etc. Inconsistent
Please tell me how IND and PIT, with two of the better D's in the game, will score 60+ points.
They've also got 2 of the greatest offenses
When you make arguments, use some logic instead of just saying that what you predict MUST happen.

Well, I mainly pick with the spread involved, but I am in one of the confidence pools where you have to weight the games & pick them without the spread, so I'll give me picks here as well.

First off, I had Atlanta, and so did the rest of the world. But, I liked Denver, which was a hard pick. There's just a little magic going in Denver this year that I don't want to go against.

And, I don't like this week's pick very much. I don't feel strong as I do sometimes. Nobody has good weeks every week, so it's silly to go crazy about 1 week. I've seen girls who pick by the helmet colors win the office pools sometimes, and we can all conclude that helmet colors do not lead to expert analysis very often.

That being said, you are wrong about the Bears. Barring injury, there isn't another D-fense even CLOSE to as awesome as they are. Granted, there might not be but one or two offenses that bad either. Howie Long is going to do a pre-game coverage of the Monsters of the Midway Sunday morning. Whether they win or not, they aren't going to be coming down to Earth.

Car 13 Buf 6
Cin 21 Bal 10
Ten 28 SF 13
KC 35 NE 24
Cle 24 Min 17
Chi 21 TB 10(one of the defenses is bound to score)
Was 21 SD 10(upset pick here)
Rams 28 Hou 9(although, I smell a chance for an upset here)
Phil 35 GB 24
Sea 17 NYG 14
Oak 27 Mia 14
Jax 13 Ari 6(Jax has scored 30 or more 3 times EVER)
Jets 24 NO 19
Pit 27 Ind 24(OT victory)

Now, normally, since I bet the spread, I try to focus on 2 or 3 games I like a lot.
Indy is giving 8.5 points, which is too much, and the over is 47.5, which is high also.
The Bears are the dogs by 3, and anytime I can get a great defense and points by 3 or more, I take them.
The last one I like is the over in Philly/GB, which is low, imo at 41.

So that's 4 picks against vegas, although the only one I'd put my money on besides the one I did on Turkey day, is the Bears.

OH, and anybody not paying attention, already MISSED that Atlanta was only giving up 3 points against the Lions, because they 'play' good on Turkey day, but for some reason, people forget they usually play bad teams as well. I cashed in, don't know about you guys.

If you don't like blowouts, don't predict them you retard, there is not that many in real life, and there isn't going that many blowouts this week.

Here are the real picks:
(I missed BOTH of the Thanksgiving games...)

St. Louis over Houston - 28-21
St. Louis only wins because their defense is barely better.

Kansas City over New England - 31-28
What can I say, I'm biased.

Minnesota over Cleveland - 24-21
Who will actually watch this?

Carolina over Buffalo - 28-10
Carolina needs a win to stay atop the NFC South, will get it in Buffalo.

Chicago over Tampa Bay - 13-3
Same as last week for Da Bears

Cincinnati over Baltimore - 27-17
Closer than some people think, but Carson still rocks.

Washington over San Diego - 27-24
It's at home and Washington is 4-0 (i think) at home, what can you say.

Tennessee over San Fransisco - 35-10
Only real "Blowout" of the week.

Oakland over Miami - 28-21
Another close game, Oakland has a better offense and is at home.

Arizona over Jacksonville - 24-21
Upset Special of the Week.

Philadelphia over Green Bay - 21-17
Another close and great game.

New York (G-Men) over Seattle - 31-28
Eli gets his 2nd road win in the best game of the day.

New Orleans over New York (Jets) - 24-7
A lot of people watch it, draws a rating of 1.75

Indianapolis over Pittsburgh - 31-14
Sorry, I was wrong, second "Blowout" of the week. Pittsburgh sucks, and there is no way that they get anywhere close to Indy.

There you go, I got 10 right last week, so hopefully I can do the same here.

Okay, Deveau, but be honest with the Thanksgiving games. If you were picking Dallas over Denver, say so. And enter your picks here by 1 PM EST today or I win by default. And we pick outright, not ATS.

Uh, their offense is mucho better.

Kansas City over New England - 31-28

Exactly. Give me a dollar for being biases. :)

Good job.

You think.
Tennessee over San Fransisco - 35-10
Only real "Blowout" of the week.
No, no blowout just a snore-through.
Oakland over Miami - 28-21
Another close game, Oakland has a better offense and is at home.
Close, not good.
Arizona over Jacksonville - 24-21
Upset Special of the Week.
I DISAGREE.
Philadelphia over Green Bay - 21-17
Another close and great game.
Close, not great. Imagine if Florida Atlantic played Florida International. Close matchup, but aside from alumni of those 2 schools, who's gonna watch it? Same here!
New York (G-Men) over Seattle - 31-28
Eli gets his 2nd road win in the best game of the day.
Giants hideous on road.
New Orleans over New York (Jets) - 24-7
A lot of people watch it, draws a rating of 1.75
Okay, nobody's gonna watch it. Rating of 0.5 at best, and they'll be licky.
Indianapolis over Pittsburgh - 31-14
Sorry, I was wrong, second "Blowout" of the week. Pittsburgh sucks, and there is no way that they get anywhere close to Indy.
GOOD JOB!

Additionally, you said Arizona rolled over St. Louis on the road last week. That is not an excuse. In college basketball one year, Iowa lost to Creighton, who lost to Western Illinois, who lost to Alabama St. who lost ot boston University, who lost to Yale. It's hard to imagine Yale beating Iowa. Same here. Just because a beat b and c didn't, doesn't mean c couldn't beat a, or even that c is worse than a. It could have just been a fluke, or c vs. a could have been a fluke.

ok, here are my picks:

CAR 20 BUF 10 - Buffalo will slow down CAR but there's too much Steve Smith and Stephen Davis.
CIN 21 BAL 13 - Baltimore will keep this game close.
TEN 24 SF 20 - SF hangs, but comes up too short.
NE 27 KC 24 - Great game, dominated by rain which doesn't really affect NE.
MIN 21 CLE 17 - Minnesota turning it on lately, who the hell is on CLE again?
CHI 20 TB 14 - Simms throws a pick in the last few minutes of the game to end the drive that would have given them the game.
SD 21 WAS 17 - Gates or no Gates, SD wins, in a close one.
STL 31 HOU 24 - Jackson puts up 3 TD's and Martin throws for one.
GB 21 PHI 20 - Good game but PHI is all done this year.
SEA 24 NYG 14 - Eli has another tough road game and Alexander adds 2 more TD's to his total.
OAK 17 MIA 14 - Close game but the better team prevails here.
JAX 23 AZ 18 - Rackers puts up 6 more FG, but Warner can't put one in the end zone.
NO 24 NYJ 20 - And it just keeps getting worse for the Jets.
IND 27 PIT 20 - Big Ben loses his first start against a team other than NE.

Check your e-mail, I sent you the rules. Also, please honestly state your picks for Thanksgiving or you'll get them both wrong. As you are being honest (and even if you're not, it doesn't matter) you have until I log on on Tuesday (around 4 PM) to post them, but please post sooner. (ASAP)

I picked ATL and DAL. So we are discounting those and that leaves us with the rest of the games. We only have 3 different games(besides the scores) and those are:

TB(you) - CHI(me)
PHI(you) - GB(me)
MIA(you) - OAK(me)

I really think KC wins, but there's no way I can go against my Pats. So, out of those three, one of us will win. Good Luck.
smartyshoe22

November 27, 2005 at 03:15PM View BBCode

I'm pretty confident in Philly and Miami, but more so in Philly. They won without T.O. Last year, because of their defense and rushing, something that you don't need T.O. or even so much McNabb for. As for Tampa, they're the home team, they should win. Good luck. I will post the results after all 3 games are completed. (Or if 2 are, and the same person got them both right, so thus the other can not possibly get winning. Good luck. Remind me again what happens if you lose. I remember something happens, but I can't find the post.

Here are the complete rules which I sent to deveau earlier today. Some of them obviously will not matter, but others will
Bring it on! Be honest about Thanksgiving though! ANd we pick outright, not ATS. Also, scores will only be used as a tiebreaker. (We go with Monday Night First, than Sunday Night, and so on based on
a) Who picked it correct
and
b) If we both did, who came closest to the actual score i.e. If I say 33-30, you say 10-7, and it's 28-14, then 33-28=5, 30-14=16, 5+16=21, and for you 28-10=14, 14-7=7, 14+7=21, and we move on to the next game. Now suppose that I say it's 20-10, you say it's 29-3, and it's 27-12. 27-20=7, 12-10=2, 7+2=9, and for you 29-27=2, and 12-3=9, and 2+9=11, I win.
and additionaly
c) If we both get it wrong, move on to the next game. Please e-mail me a copy so I have proof, and also post a copy so we have witnesses. Post by 1 PM EST today, or you automatically get the 1 PM games wrong. Post by 4 PM or you also get the 4 PM games wrong. Post by 8:15 PM or you also get Sunday Night Football wrong. Post by 9 PM Monday or you get everything wrong. Also note that if you fail to pick a game, I win that tiebreaker if any automatically. Thanks.
