Why most players have 127 at bats and answers to other mysteries of the universe...

I made a few enhancements tonight.
You can now send a brief message to other team owners when proposing a trade. You can view these messages from the Trade Desk in the GM Center.
I also added totals for the team stats page. During which I found a bug.
Basically, the database was built to only hold up to the number 127 in certain fields (like player at bats). So once he reached 127 at bats, it stopped adding to his at bats and stayed at 127. Any other stat that uses at bats (avg, slg, obp) were also skewed.
I fixed the database, but there is not a way to get those at bats back. Which sucks because I was hoping to get a full season's worth of realistic statistics so everyone could comment on the stats.
I also realize that people have become attached to their teams and would like to see the whole season finish. Here are a couple of proposals, let me know what you think by replying to this:
1) Start the leagues over from scratch, including the draft. There have been a number of enhancements to the player creation logic that you can't see now because your players haven't been created. I would probably play 6 games a night to speed things up a bit.
2) Keep the current leagues going, but create an extra league to look at stats. I would ask for some volunteers to manage a 2nd team, with a focus on stats. It would require nearly daily attention from the volunteers, and I might play entire seasons in one night. If there are things that need to be tweaked, we would then wipe the slate clean, redraft, and play another full season.
What do you think would be the best way? One problem I see with option 2 is that not everyone would be able to participate. Would people be pissed if I restarted their league and their team???

I, for one, would like to finish the current season. Count me in if you need someone to take another team.

While it's natural to get a little attached to your team, let's face it -- this is beta testing. There have been many changes and I'm sure there will be more. When the site goes live, we'll all have to start from scratch anyway.
I say let's redraft so we can look at the product as it currently stands -- from player creation on down. What we're looking at now doesn't really reflect the new and improved version of the game.
In addition, it would be good to run a few "rapid-fire" leagues that run in a night or two for the purpose of reviewing statistics. If you do this, definitely count me in -- I'm a statistics hound.

Redraft is fine

I say redraft. That way we can look at the things that have been fixed since the initial draft while the issues that we had are still relatively fresh in our minds.
As for the looking at the stats, why not run the seasons and then post the overall stats for everyone to see and comment on?

I don't care, the only reason I am really attached to my team is the names I have given them, and I can fix that if we redrafted, on the other hand if we don't redraft and you start another league I'd be happy to join it for you too.

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
I agree with Bob, this is a Beta so let's redraft.

even though my team is doing well we should redraft so that we can see this from the begining
if we restart the games should be run faster because their are not as many bugs to look for

It's a beta. Go ahead and re-draft.
It migt not be a bad idea to set up an extra league, find some volunteers who are willing to give up an entire day, and run 10 games every half-hour for four or eight hours (if ABE will run that fast) so you can go through an entire season in a day or two. Maybe even repeat this the following week or two to test the "dynasty" features.
Anyone else willing to play a hyper-season? I'm in.... :)

I agree with most of the above -- redraft. This whole effort is to test the product, and without a "realistic" set of stats at the end, that's one key aspect that won't be properly tested. So it seems reasonable to start again.

Here's what I'm thinking...

Thanks for all the responses. Here is what I think I'm going to do. I'll simulate the rest of this season because its really easy to do. But there won't be playoffs or anything. I'm currently working on the Auto Game feature so that games run automatically at 5PM everyday. Once that is squared away, I'll sim the rest of the season.
I'll let the stats sit for a couple of days while I work out a few bugs. I don't have my list on me right now, but there are maybe 5-10 things I want to fix before the redraft (including improved drafting control). Plus I want to fill out league 4 too, which still needs 5 people. When I resume with the testing, I'll probably up it to 6 games a night after the first week or so.
Starting next week, we'll also put together a hyper league. Run one season a week, with the draft happening on Monday, the season run on Tuesday, and then give everyone five days to make comments on the site. The following week, I'll scrap the league and start over with the same process. Depending on how many people want to help with this, I may have people manage more than one team. Reply if you are interested. So far, I have Chris, CdrHawkeye, Bob, and Rongway, and myself.

REDRAFT

It pains me to say this, since i've become very attached to my players, and was in fact planning a big team picnic with the wives and kids, etc., but the best thing to do is re-draft and start over.
Hey, we knew when we signed up this was a beta test, so do what's best for developing the product.

It's just beta...we knew things may not work properly and although I am in first place in beta1 AL (and feel I would end up there), I am willing to start the league over and also will help with the hyperleague if needed
