I was watching Dallas's first two games from last year. Specifically the question of the screen. Dallas called 17 screens in the first 2 games completing 11 of them for 148 yards. But when you look closer he has a back, that has A speed but more importantly, A+ agility and A break tackle. I think this is more of a coach knowing his roster and using his strength than exposing a flaw. Makes me think that maybe I should call more screens as I have a top 10 back.

If I am exploiting anything, it seems odd to me I can do it as a noob compared to my complainer with claims of knowing all of them and cant. WHat I said about screens is true of every position. I often start B+ players over A- because of match up categories. Example: I have inside LB that to me have stats for inside, yet are much more effective outside. Some seasons I have notebooks of every single play others I am lazy, but if you have a talent to spot trends it adds a certain unmeasurable % to your chances of winning.
I just prior to this read a completely misinformed statement I want those not aware to know. I cant say QB Brown is one for sure, but ADMIN stated a long time ago in my single season days that 1 out of so many ( i long forget the number) of draft picks Abe is programed to make underperform. That is a fact and why we have all had players with red numbers be average. I abhor the arrogance of people claiming they know what they do not. The same people who claim to be champions by knowing the game and losing with excuses and blame.

That is true Youthamizum at rb, But screens thrown to the WR always go to the man in the #2 hole. YOu would think on my team Lane and Bremner would be the best at it. They are not as Lovewell is far better. I was unaware that screens to the WR go to the no 2 wideout. I never run screens. I will be running them this season as I don't think I have the talent to compete this season. And add to that I'm aging. Once again.... a poorly declared rebuild on my part.

I have found nothing to back up that up in writing, but check it out, and try each wr there. It might surprise what one does best. I do not think you will be, but if out of competition, experimenting can be huge....
Actually probably the best knowledge I ever received in this game came from Youtamizum. Make you opponent dink and dunk down the field, even if it is 3rd and 2, if you need to convert a 3rd down every time, just 1 penalty or incomplete and they punt. the odds of a 15 play drive favor the defense.

Another big thing that my teams do that not many do well is that overall I'm averaging 43.5 yards net per punt over the 112 games that we've played in the CLFL. I did say net not average. I'm averaging 45.4 per punt. I give up about 8 yards in punts returns a game! So in a season I give up about 100 yards in punt returns a season! My special teams are such that I'm making you have to drive another 8-10 yards per possession more than other teams. You have an extra first down to make. In a game that is all about real estate I'm making it harder on you. That's really all this is.

That is my mantra on defense. I preach that until the cows come home. Force teams to to go on 15+ play drives, eventually a penalty, a sack, a loss or no gain on a running play, an incompletion (an incompletion is a negative play in my opinion) will kill the drive. The more 3rd downs an offense sees on a particular drive, the better that is for me. What I don't want to see are huge chunks of yardage at a time. Keep plays in front of you (what that means is incorporate deep pass defense a bit). I admit to trying to emulate Miami and Cleveland for Special Teams, but I am not getting it yet.

I have been working on the punt thing, but admit I am having a hard time at it. In fact, most of my losses are due to bad special teams play. I will continue to work on it.I admit to trying to emulate Miami and Cleveland for Special Teams, but I am not getting it yet.

I have dedicated no time to studying plays in this league. However, a long time ago the screen pass was being used by everyone on the site as it always resulted in big play touchdowns. Everyone had great passing stats and everyone knew the screen pass could not be stopped. At some point, admin put a fix in and passing stats across the site plummetted as screen pass pick 6s became common multiple times a game. I think the older owners moved on from the screen pass and found playbooks that worked, though not as well.

yep, all true. The screen pass can be a risky move. A game against SF comes to mind when he tied the game off an interception, then won the game when following his kick off, I threw an int pick 6 with little time remaining. DAMN SF is not intimidated by my screens.

I don't use screen passes because they hardly ever work, even with very good QBs, unless it's against a blitz. Even then it usually has to be a max blitz. They got nerfed a long time ago to become more of a situational pass. One reason why they probably were so successful before the nerf is because if you notice they often go against the defensive ends, and defensive linemen are notoriously bad at pass cover. In any case, they're not really supposed to be used as a standard pass at this point, certainly not with the success that Dallas has with them against no blitz.

Cleveland used a called screen against a non blitz and killed me for a 61 yard td today. I've called 3 screens for 24 yards.

I don't need a blitz for a screen to work because I look at the agg and agility ratings of your and try to miss match. Is it fool proof? not even close, but if I keep pushing them in your face, similar to the Pats, it seems to work.
just about all owners only look at a few attributes when drafting. EVERY SINGLE attribute means something and contributes. it may work only 35 to 40 % of the time but that really is huge in computing #'s. Discussing drafts with other owners via U2U I have had players rated as high as 5 in the draft when another owner had him expected to go in the 3rd round. Take players that fit how you're going to play.
I am not angry at anybody, don't care if some think it is BS or I am simply crazy, but it work for me.
How else do you explain after SB 6 I put my entire game plan on this thread and still won SB 7 with the same playbook? look for trends and don't just assume an A- player is doing his job. Experiment.

Everything said is true about the history of the screen..... but it is still part of the game. I checked NFL stats and they don't keep records on screens so there is not research to back up what I believe. I know this nothing like real football in reality, but I like to think I use New England style tactics. New England in my unverified belief throws the highest amount of screen or swing passes in the NFL and the roster is of players to fit that. My interpretation of that, in this game, is to make the same type of mismatches the Pats do.

Cleveland got me again for another td on a screen. A called screen against a non blitz defense and he got me for a 16 yard TD

Great example of how I get cheated with blitzes/screen passes. NJ throws a screen pass against me today for a 58 yard TD against only 20% max blitz. If that had been my team and I had screens in my strategy the AI wouldn't have even called one at that moment, and even if the AI had it would have been incomplete. I'm like the only owner in Simdynasty that's not allowed to use screens OR blitzes because I get burned by both.
