2012 FHFL Mock Draft

July 01, 2017 at 09:43PM View BBCode

Thought I'd do a really thorough mock draft for the 1st round. All teams have been exhaustively researched for 15-20 seconds each to determine their needs. Order subject to change and I'll do a revision after the Sim Bowl to reflect any changes.

*******************

1. BUF - We all know shbo is a top tier strategist so being granted the top overall pick in a top-heavy draft is concerning for the rest of the AC West (or AC East, assuming realignment happens). But Buffalo actually has 3 1st rounders in this draft which should put whatever division they end up on notice. BUF could use a franchise QB but there isn't one available in the draft so instead they go with the top player on the board, DE Ed Ward (good one, AFE).

2. GB - As usual, Zim ends up with a bunch of picks in this draft. GB is set at QB and HB but could use help at the OT positions as well as anywhere on the defensive side. With so many holes, GB opts to go with the best LT to come out of the draft in a long time, LT Michael Young.

3. DAL - With aging Renfro at Center, Dallas will look to shore up the interior line with superstar C Doc Caver

4. DET - Detroit should be in "best available" mode as they have a few positions they could use some help on. However with a top 5 pick and a stud QB grabbing an offensive playmaker could be in cards. With that in mind, the Tiger Ants welcome the top wideout in the draft, WR Bobby Young, to the Motor City.

5. NJ - The Sharks have the talent to compete but certainly need an upgrade at the offensive skill positions. Young is a top target but with Detroit nabbing him at #4, NJ goes with their second choice. WR George Stevens.

6. BC (via CLE) - Our first acquired selection, BC finished a disappointing 7-9 in 2011 but get the chance to draft an impact player at #6. While the team is aging there is definitely enough talent for another playoff run. With an aging OL, BC is thrilled to grab G Ron Williams to anchor the interior for years to come.

7. SF (via WAS) - When a 15-1 team gets a top 10 pick they can usually spend it on a luxury piece. SF likely wouldn't mind adding a WR like Young or Stevens but with those 2 off the board the Cylons go with another direction. Welcome to the Base Star CB Bruce Halloran, who will provide some youth to an aging secondary.

8. IND - Indy started strong but faltered a bit down the stretch losing 6 of their last 7. They are loaded with talent offensively so hope to solidify their front 7 by bringing in the top LB of the draft class, LB Carl Stevens

9. SAS - Saskatchewan has the pieces to compete but aloof ownership has prevented what would have likely been a playoff appearance this past season. They could use some help at OL so bring in OT Austin Harms who can play either tackle position.

10. BUF (via OAK) - Another pick for the Tigers and again they go best available. This time it's LB Andy Quinn who projects to be a dominant MLB.

Well, you pretty much nailed my pick in DET. I have Caver ranked 1st Overall, but DET has to get a playmaker. Young, to me, is the top WR. And if QB Snell is ever going to have a QB rating over 70, he simply has to have Young.
