New minor league system for Dynasty and Trial leagues

February 26, 2017 at 06:13PM View BBCode

You have no doubt heard about the planned change in minor league systems. Here is how this will be rolled out.
What is changing?
The system for developing minor leaguers is being upgraded to a more modern and easier to use system. Rather than putting coach points on a few players, you will rank your top 15 prospects from 15 to 1 to decide what priority they get in development via a drag and drop interface. The old system is known as System 2; the new system is System 5. For full details on our minor league development systems, see http://rules.simdynasty.com/index.php/Sim_Dynasty_Game_Guide#The_Six_Types_of_Minor_League_CP_Systems in the Game Guide.

Rollout
The change will be rolled out in stages across the Dynasty and Trial leagues over the next few months.

Dynasty Leagues
The 12 leagues that actively support change will switch over to System 5 this offseason (March 2017):

Rickey Henderson League
George Van Haltren League
Billy Hamilton League
Jesse Burkett League
Minnie Minoso League
Jimmy Wynn League
Simmons Davis League
Joe Jackson League
Vada Pinson League
Speaker Wilson League
Ty Cobb League
Pete Rose League

The next 10 leagues will switch over in May:

Brett Butler League
Larry Doby League
Tim Raines League
Ashburn Crawford League
Ralph Kiner League
Dom DiMaggio League
Goose Goslin League
Johnny Bench League
Mickey Mantle League
Fred Lynn League

The remaining leagues will switch over in July:

Carl Yastrzemski League
Jimmy Ryan League
Willie Mays League
Joe Medwick League
Joe DiMaggio League
Wally Berger League
Mel Ott League
Cesar Cedeno League
Keller Stargell League
Kirby Puckett League
Reggie Jackson League
Duke Snider League
Earl Averill League
Ken Griffey Jr League
Max Carey League

Trial Leagues

Trial leagues will start switching as they roll over, so those already in a 3-season block will finish their blocks under System 2. This process will begin March 1st. (EDIT: Trial leagues don't run under the exact same code, I need to check/test them a bit more. I'll post an updated date when I have it.)

For your convenience, all leagues will show what system they are under on the Minor League page now.

We will reevaluate during the rollout to make sure the process is what's best for the site; if by July it's clear that some leagues still need to be on System 2 we will have that option.

Thank you!

Glad for the change, but why three different waves? If we are doing this System 5 why not all at once?

Chris explained this in the other thread: (see the following link)

And he went on to list the first group. He basically broke down the Dynasty leagues into three groups based on how much support for the change there was. Personally, I don't see any reason to wait either, and my league (the Brett Butler league) apparently had one dissenter.

sorry to be a debbie downer, but this is terrible news. the reason i've stuck with my Dynasty team and stopped with the custom leagues is the level of difficulty presented in System 2. I like System 2. It creates very challenging problems of scarcity. Isn't that why the custom leagues exist? For people who want something different? Leave Dynasty Leagues ALONE.

There are still four leagues using System 2 with vacancies available. Granted, none of them are 3 GPD, but that particular challenge can still be found on the site. Best of luck to you, KT!

man that is depressing. 0 20-CP leagues at 3 GPD. 0 salary leagues at 3 GPD. should make all leagues "private" and establish all the variable rule sets so all options are available. having 1/3 of the leagues on the site forced into the same rule set continues to be a bad idea.

And on top of that, I spent over a year developing a formula to assess draft pools in System 2. And it's not bad. This just really irks me.

I have to agree. Really dislike the change to System 5. I have speed leagues and Private leagues with System 5 already. I liked having two different systems to choose and work with. System 5 is basically the DH of this game. Its easier and less strategy needed way of doing things for people who don't want to think to hard..:mad::mad:

You guys are a few weeks (months?) late in complaining. Not that it matters, because the majority (by far) voted for the change.

With 3 World Series wins in 290 seasons, I'd think you'd welcome an "easier" format.

The shot is not necessary and not cool, at least you deleted the other one

This! Exactly how I feel...now System 2 or even System 6 is not available at 3 games per day. What are the chances of an existing Dynasty League going private to play by the old rules? Needing a unanimous vote...I'd say NONE.

Yeah, well, he basically said everyone who voted for System 5 "don't want to think to (sic) hard," which IMO is rich coming from an owner whose record shows someone doing just that. And anyway, if anything, there's more strategy now because you have to be smarter (dig deeper) when drafting.

I do get what some of you are saying about the loss of System 2 and it not coming back. I won't miss it but it has its merits.

System 5 makes drafting more important, and trading a bit less. This will help the less active owners, but if you're not good at drafting, or active, you're still going to have a very hard time winning.

In most cases, the owners winning in system 2, will still be the ones winning in system 5, and the owners struggling now will still struggle in system 5.

KingTurtle is right about the scarcity. Going to system 5 makes player development easier. That kept me against a change at first. What brought me over back when we went private in CPBL is that system 5 is more realistic. I don't think minor league systems have to focus on their top 10% of prospects and let the rest languish. The counter argument is probably 10% is all that is worth addressing and the rest is minor league depth, but I think all of your prospects should get a shot. Max development is the most like real player development, although you need VD in there to prevent a whole league of super teams.

I would like to see some other system implemented to add some strategy to the game to replace CP management. I'd be all for adding in some kind of scarcity to the CP system again, but I don't see how it can work (other than the roster limit, not much of a constraint).

Rebel - you might be able to find a bot-infested league and see if it wants to stay. Especially if it's one of those leagues that voted against the change and won't convert until summer. You could probably fill it up with some of these other system 2 fans.

I complained then, and I'll complain then. The entire point of custom leagues is to have choices that are different from the master. Why dumb down the master? SAD.

i'm sure chris would be happy to entertain a vote to take that league private with the old dynasty rules.

no. the point of private league is to have the ability to choose rule sets and gpd levels, among other things. those choices can be the same or different compared to what dynasty leagues use.

I don't agree that system 5 is easier than system 2. I feel that the reverse is true, actually. the 'easiest' system on the site is actually system 3. but that's not what's motivating this decision in any case. whether one prefers system 2, system 5, or something else entirely, I don't think that there's any question that system 5 is more intuitive, more realistic and less conducive to cp deals. that's why the switch is being made. obviously that decision isn't going to be supported by all, but as was said, it was indisputably supported by an overwhelming majority.

so while I can sympathize with those who are upset about the change, that ship has simply already sailed. rather than raging against the machine, I would suggest working to either come to terms with it, find a private league with the settings you like or campaign to move your league into one.

>> less conducive to cp deals

what's wrong with CP deals? they work fine in the Dynasty League I am in. And it makes more deals occur. The less scarcity there is, the less trades there are.
