Holding in the end zone

I noticed in my first quarter today that the opposing team, lined up at their own 1 yard line, took a holding penalty before throwing a pass. This should have been called a safety by rule.

It depends on the actual location of the holding penalty. Granted, at the 1 the likelihood is that the penalty was in the end zone. Offensive penalties behind the line of scrimmage are enforced from the previous spot, which is what is stored when the flag is thrown; the safety possibility is an exception to the rules, and should be handled differently Good catch. It will be a slightly tricky fix, though, so it may be a bit before I can address it.
Note to self: Rule in question is 14.5, exception 1, in the 2012 rulebook.

One way to do it might be to reuse whatever calculation determines the yardage lost on a sack. Add it to the line of scrimmage and check to see if that is in the end zone.
