Demote preferences

Hi,

this is probably a stupid questions, but I can't find the answer in the game guide.
If I claim 3 optioned players, and have only two players in my demote preferences, what will happen?

I have one league where I am looking for a replacement for one pitcher and one batter. On the waiver wire are 2 pitchers and 3 batters that I rank higher than the guys on my roster. Since I've got a decent team, and some of the players are claimed by other teams, it is uncertain which players I'll get.

I guess I will set more players in my demote preferences and recall them from options if necessary, but it would still be interesting to know what will happen...

I think it demotes the youngest player with option years left, it definitely tries to demote someone who doesn't need to pass through waivers. If no one on your team has option years remaining I'm not sure what would happen.

I think at that point it takes the worst player on the roster by overall grade and demotes him.

I think it will simply not claim the player.

IIRC after September 1st it may place the player on rest on your Major league roster.
