TE and LBs

A lot has been said about some of the premier positions in the game, like strength being the most important factor in linemen and Pcov being the most important in CB, but I am having a hard time in deciding what are most important about TE and LB

First on TE, I can understand that Catch should be important due to being a target in the red zone and a safety blanket for QB. However, I once read where your passing offensive line is only as strong as the weakest link, usually the TE. But if you are a run oriented team, the TE skill set for Run Blocking is not highlighted so it doesn't play a factor.

And on LB, I can understand tackling as being the most important. But should not the MLB be the best tackler with both good Pass/Run Coverage skills. Should not the WOLB have the best Pass Coverage skills and the SOLB have the best Run Coverage skills since the game is designed to run to the left more often. And again, Pursuit, a quality not deemed important for the position by not being highlighted is left unnoticed. My interpretation of a LB's pursuit skills is the ability to see a hole, get to the hole, cut off a hole and chase down anything that gets through the hole. Also, A LB's pursuit skills should represent their ability to chase either a TE or SR breaking for a pass or a RB coming out of the backfield for a quick dump

So in conclusion, I think these two positions should be reevaluated to include Run Blocking for TE and Pursuit for LB

I would caution about two assumptions that I think you've made: that skills which aren't highlighted don't play a potentially important role and that your (our) own assumptions about what skills should or shouldn't represent have any relationship to what the skills do in the game. neither of those things is true, especially the second.

for instance, I always value run block highly at TE, to the point where on some teams I play a good block/good STR TE over one with good receiving skills. it just depends on what you want your offence to do.
