Is this an anomaly on this player's IC

This player was B+ contact v lefty at OS 35. During the off-season he loses -1 in contact vs Lefty and is dropped to a B. At OS 36 he gains 5 ICs at contact versus lefty yet remains a B

What am I missing here ?

past skills are guesstimates off the mid point, not exact records. they always go off in decline.

I would say the real anomaly is a 35 year old player picking up 27 minor league improvements.

Psychic DD ? :puzzled:

Actually I inadvertently deleted my post instead of editing so it looks out of whack

I think the past skills are always the skills at the start of the season. So it's the rating before that player picked up 5 improvements.

from what i understand, the past skills are an estimate that assumes the player is in the middle of his current skill grade. So a 100 is treated as a 96 for example. If a player went from 95 to 100 last year, his most recent past skill would show A.

Why was this guy in the minors for most of his career?

Yeah the fact that he has converted that many ICs is astonishing. He has picked up more than some of my young guns.

His card is now saying B+ contact versus lefty despite not picking up any more ICs versus lefty for contact. I give up.

The league I am in uses variable development, so despite the fact he had A- contact vs R and A+ power there were other more well rounded players better suited for everyday work I imagine.

As a 3rd round pick I guess his previous owner didn't have much use for him. If you take a look at the minors in the DWL, there is some pretty good talent. Talent that would easily start and contribute in more traditional leagues. He looks to be a late bloomer. He had decent splits, but was awful was lefty for a decent part of his career.

Also, I believe the team I got him from doesn't place a premium on power. The team he was on before prefers contact guys which could be another reason why he never got regular playing time versus righty when he probably should have

he picked up 5 points in CvL, i think you're looking at CvR.

It is bizarre that a 36YO converted like that in the minors. That's a weird development curve to be sure.

The answers are on the right track. The letters on the past skills are back flushed using the mid-point of the current rating and then backing off the improves. The disconnect is that the mid-point of the current rating does not equal the absolute current rate. If you watch closely, a players past skills may change periodically depending on where the absolute ratings are.
