big AL series

February 11, 2015 at 03:02AM View BBCode

Here we go again. The Steamers are picking it up and the Manatees are coming off two losses in Boston. Can the Manatees take the series? WIll the AL be tied after tomorrow? Tune in and see!

---

The Manatees will cruise into Ronco Field and meet a steaming Steamers team in a battle for first place. The Manatees, 26-4 in their last 30 games, are coming off a season best 11 game win streak and are looking to capitalize on the resurgence in pitching and clutch hitting.

It should be a tough battle as the league's best pitching goes against the league's best hitting. Funny enough the Manatees are 2nd in AL hitting and the Steamers 2nd in AL pitching. Pretty well matched!

The Steamers hold a 5-4 season advantage over the Manatees going 3-3 on the road and 2-1 at home.

The Manatees look unbeatable. What did they just complete, like a 16 game winning streak?

God help us.

Looks like a standard-size three game series from my viewpoint. :P

Everything is clicking for the Manatees right now. A gut decision to start light hitting Mr Mxyzptlk over Levon Helm's huge bat produced the only run in game one as the weak lefty just cleared the Grotto's short right field porch in the 7th of a tight pitcher's duel. The Steamers threatened in the 9th but with runners on the corners and one away Dale of Kent took over for Ed Marimba and shut the door by inducing Nap Lajoie into a lazy fly and striking out the nefarious Chuck Colson. Wow.

Game 2 coming up.

Mxyzptlk.

We ran him out of town after he and Bob Molina got into a fight over which of the Friends girls was hotter (Mxyzptlk is a big Phoebe guy).

Then, he goes to Washington and throws a big Screw You at Cleveland's sizable Polish population by changing his name from O'Reilly to the unpronounceable Mxyzptlk.

I notice he didn't start game 2, and it's a good thing. My pitching staff is under orders to put one in his ear.

That said, congrats on winning the first 2 of the series. Let's see if my boys can salvage some of their dignity with a win in game 3.

LOL Mr Mxyzptlk (sworn enemy of Superman, currently beguiling and annoying people from the Manatees bench) sat the exciting 2nd game of this big series which saw his erstwhile replacement Click Tappet (on loan from Car Talk) bring in the winning run with an 8th inning homer. It was needed because the Steamers scored 3 runs in the 9th and had the tying run at third when Dale of Kent could not hold Nixon's cabinet at bay. Rockette Morton (sometime bass player in the Captain Beefheart Band) came in to save the day by getting the tremendous Virgilio Gonzales to fly to deep right, his ball nearly clearing the short porch instead finding the bottom of Levon Helm's leather.

It's on to game three pitting the resurgent Zoot Horn Rollo vs the always impressive (in spite of his name) Fernando Stump. The Manatees hope to sweep and take a 2 game lead in the AL.

WASHINGTON SWEEPS INTO FIRST!

Another day, another big win for the Fighting Manatees riding Zoot Horn Rollo's outstanding start (one unearned run over 8 innings), Dale of Kent's clutch 9th inning pitching, and Roger Smith's 7th inning blast out of the Grotto and into Lily Pad Bay. The Manatees have won 4 straight and are a remarkable 18-2 in their last 20 games. The Manatees began the season by going 21-19 in their first 40 games. Since then they are 33-8.

The Steamers remain a strong playoff team and should not be taken lightly as that came up just short this time. Heading into the 2nd half the Manatees hope to ride their success and hang on to a playoff spot.
