I both love and hate...

...the initial draft bidding. It's a great concept and I love the wrinkles it adds. But there's few things more frustrating than bidding 400 on QB and drafting 5th.

He's not wrong. Well, he might be- I don't know what the tiebreaker is on bids.

QB is actually one of the few positions in this crap festival of an initial draft that has enough depth to grab a functional starter while drafting at the back end.

Ah yes, let the bluffing and mind games begin. Love it

I don't think Riley is bluffing.

I figure that if I bid half as much on Halfback that I usually bid, I'll end up with a good Quarterback.

Yeah sometimes I wish it was like the baseball side and just told you where you were drafting. Then you can blame the Sim for your poor draft lol.

I also hate the initial draft. I've never figured it out and end up with a poor team from the start. Hoping it will be different this time though I know that's unlikely.

Considering the number of points a top kicker generates over a season, it's not a bad plan to get a good one.

I'm thinking of revamping the initial draft process to find a way to make it simpler and easier to understand, so feel free to toss out your opinions on it.

I think it's pretty good really. It's fun. I would suggest splitting SS and FS. They're pretty different positions and ranking them together makes for some difficult decisions in prioritizing.

Splitting LT and RT would be nice as well.

Difficult decisions are meant to be part of the process, of course.

One thing I am considering doing is changing it from 100 points per position to 10 points per position, and having several pre-built profiles for new owners to choose from as a starting point.

Sure. But the FS/SS skills are completely different. We don't lump G and T together or DT and DE and they're more similar positions than the safety slots. It would be like combining WR and RB. Would you rank the top 16 WR then the top 16 HB? Do you alternate? What happens if you draft three WR before you get a HB? I don't think we would find that reasonable but that's exactly what we do with the S.

Zero. I don't care if I have a FB that can actually run the ball and I'm pretty sure I can get something that can block well at 16.

I like the flexibility you get from 100 to be honest. The preset profiles are a good idea though.

I also like the 100 point system. Having a way to weigh the skills you feel are important like the the baseball side drafts instead of having everything listed by the overall ranking could be a nice addition.

It would but it would almost have to be done by position.

Most definitely, I forgot to specify that.

I bid 76 on FB. It makes a big difference in running game to me.
