Tight A.L.

March 05, 2014 at 01:36AM View BBCode

Man! 18 games to go and *five* American League teams still have a very legitimate shot at the playoffs.

Should be an exciting finish this season as nearly everyone in the AL got better while KC and Cleveland - in their twilight seasons, no doubt - are still hanging tough.

Good luck to all!

So who does the Schedule favor on our last day of regular season games in the A.L.? Let's take a look:

Cleveland @ Anaheim: 11-10, 4-5 on the road
KC home vs. Toronto: 14-7, 7-2 at home
New York @ Boston: 16-5, 7-2 on the road

? Cleveland has to win at least two games, hope KC sweeps Toronto, and Boston takes two from the Yankees. A tall order.

? KC needs to win two to assure a playoff spot or one and hope Boston wins at least one against New York. Or, if they get swept by Toronto, Boston needs to win two and Anaheim at least one against Cleveland.

? For Toronto, a sweep against the Sloughs assures a playoff slot. If they win two, the Yankees could still sweep the Battalion and force a tiebreaker. One win opens the door for a potential three-way tie (if the Yankees win two and Cleveland manages to sweep Anaheim).

There are, I'm sure, other combinations but my brain is getting bubbly.
