Advice Needed

December 13, 2013 at 03:07AM View BBCode

Hey guys, need some advise. Glenn Hoyt is a shoe-in (or should be) for first ballot induction into the hall of fame. At 42 his abilities have diminished and although he is still a good player I feel its time to let him retire at the end of this season. I'd like to play him/start him as many games as possible this year because of his mentoring and I'd like him to retire as part of the SD franchise... so what's the best way to make that happen? Thanks.

Vikiroepke, as discussed in the pet peeve thread, we are system 2 retirements, so here is the explaination from the game guide:

"System 2

This system takes the approach that as long as a team is willing to give a player some playing time, he will continue to play. Players will retire if they are 34 or older and meet meet one of the following criteria:

Less than 120 games on an active roster the previous season, including time spent on the Disabled List.
They are on the waiver wire.
For Batters, they have less than 200 at bats in the previous season.
Pitchers who appear in fewer than 18 games need at least 100 innings pitched to avoid retirement. Pitchers who appear in 18 or more games need only 25 innings pitched to avoid retirement.
They reach the age of 50."

I may be wrong, but the only way to have him retire this year is I believe to put him on the waiver wire, since he already has 200 at bats, is not 50, and is not likely to get hurt and spend less that 120 games on active roster. The system makes players stay longer, which can be nice, but they will stay around until you kick them to the curb lol...

Oh yeah I agree with you as well, he is a virtual shoe-in for the HOF, one of the DJL's alltime best, pretty cool you are respecting his career and how he goes out, good luck in a challenging situation, maybe others have ideas/opinions too...

I think since he has the 200 ABs already this season, you will have to waive him or he will be back.

We could/should all have a gentlemans agreement not to claim him on waivers.
After he is cut.
