let's here it for the lowest budget team in the majors who made the playoffs tonight. In spite of a greedy owner who has no love or caring for his team, and who has continuously traded away his most talented players, and has tarped away one-third of the stadium from the fans' seating, and has as his sole interest the development of shopping malls and condos. The major owner, Woollf is a disgusting example of a man with a total lack of integrity,
But these young men, a mix of mostly rookies and a few vets. pulled it out tonight! Not for the money, not for the new stadium, but for the glory of the game.
Wish them luck!

I think I read somewhere that the entire A's staff makes less than Vernon Wells.
Their accomplishment is incredible.

Gotta agree on the A's achievement. One can only wonder what Billy Beane would do with the Giants payroll, let alone that of the Dodgers, Red Sox, or Yankees.
I wish there was more Bay-area buzz about this team; they're incredible but get almost no local press and are barely mentioned on any local sports talk radio station. ESPN, of course, still struggles to believe that major league baseball exists west of the Mississippi.

Yeah, LT, I think Beane could get $30 million per year or more; he turned down $15 million from Boston some years ago. It's a tribute to him that he doesn't let the money run his life, although I don't know how he can stand working for that slimeball.
As you say, the east coast press has continuously undervalued the west teams for as long as I can remember. On the other hand, I've made quite a bit of money betting on the west!

Congrats to Oakland, and I hope they sweep Texas. Congrats also to the Orioles, who finally managed to have a winning year and still have a shot at the division title as well.
You could have made a LOT of money betting on those two for the playoffs this year...

The A' are leading 8-5 after 7! They will actually win the division title if they can hang on. Amazing!

Amazing; the A's came back from a 5-1 deficit to take game three of their series with Texas to complete a sweep and take first place!!
Sometimes, I really do love MLB!!

4:00PM PDT The A's did It! The first time this year that they have been in 1st place and it's the last game of the season!
They also made major league history as the only team to win their division trailing by 5 or more games with only 9 to go!
Let's hope the A's and O's make it to the ACLS.

Congrats to the A's! Fantastic season!
Very cool to have done what they have done the way they did it (selling off every asset for young talent in the attempt to have a great team when they thought they would be allowed to move to San Jose). Wolff may not deserve the success that Beane and/or the team have had but his organization and the fans do. Go A's!
