Football changes for September 13
September 13, 2011 at 05:28PM View BBCode
The following changes will be put in place tonight:
- The defense will start adapting to run-heavy strategies similar to the way they do with pass-heavy strategies.
- The Time Outs strategy page has been renamed to Time Management, and new time management options are available on that page for protecting a lead, playing a hurry-up offense, and running out the clock.
- Quarterback fumbles during handoffs have been reduced.
- The injury rate has been cut in half for the preseason.
- The average length of an injury has been reduced a bit.
- Chances for kicker injuries has been increased.
- Kickoff distance has been tapered down a bit for the strongest kickers.
- The out of position Execution penalty has been increased from 66% to 75%. This change will not make a huge difference on the field, but will make player alternate position ratings more accurate.
- A depth chart for Nose Tackle is now available for the charts that use it.
- A line has been added to the Depth Chart page for each position explaining exactly who is eligible for the depth chart.
- Hovering over the yard line on the play by play will display the ball position to a tenth of a yard.
- A player's Conditioning level at the start of a game will now be visible in the General stats Game Log on his player card. This is only for games going forward, as it was not stored previously.
- Each play will now show whether the team is using a normal huddle, a long huddle, a hurry-up huddle, or no huddle at all. This is only for games going forward, as it wasn't stored previously (prior games will show a normal huddle on all plays.)
- Viewing the Roster page will now show which players are that team's starters (including the starting kickers).
- An error related to passing stats after a penalty has been fixed.
- The "Make an offer" link on the player card now works properly.
- An error that occasionally caused a team to punt after spiking the ball has been fixed.
- The clock no longer runs on kickoff from the kick; it starts when a player touches the ball.
- A bug that caused defensive timeouts to be called when tied has been fixed.
- For premium leagues, a league can now specify the minimum rating to appear on any individual depth chart, rather than just an overall minimum. So a league could specify an overall minimum rating of 45 but require a WR rating of 55 at WR (which would include dependent charts like SR, FL, and SE). Note that these minimums only apply to "out of position" players; a native WR can always appear on the WR/SR/FL/SE charts no matter what their ratings.
In addition, many minor adjustments have been made to the way overall position rating are calculated for many positions. You may see players move up or down slightly in overall grade. This does not change the way they perform on the field; it will only affect the displayed grade, to make it more accurate and in a couple of cases to correct a calculation flaw. All positions wil have a sxlightly higher emphasis on Execution, which will mean that secondary position skill displays may also drop a bit.

Are there LB changes in this patch as alluded to in the "ILB and OLB Mixup" question from last sunday? Will OLBs be concerned with PCov too now?

Yes, both in their ratings and and they will be more involved with pass coverage in games.

Does this explain why ratings have been reduced for certain players for non-primary positions?
For example, when this season started, [url=http://football.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=467794]Vic Rice[/url] is a linebacker who played CB at a B+ level. [url=http://football.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=468028]Andy Harris[/url] is a CB who played FS at a B+ level. Those ratings dropped to B's.
No declines show up in their cards. Rice's conditioning is weak, but not Harris'.
So is the reduction due to an execution adjustment?
Does it have anything to do with me playing them at those non-primary positions?
And going forward, can i expect players to keep the non-primary ratings on their cards barring declines or further system-wide changes?
thanks

Yes.

Although there may be minor adjustments occasionally to make the overall ratings more accurate, I do not expect changes on this level. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Note that there will be some changes soon to limit the depth charts in which certain out-of-position players can appear on to logical adjustments (for example, you won't be able to put a QB in at LB, etc), but anyone can still appear in any position in emergencies, so if you like to play out of position players a lot this may affect you, but the real intention is not to limit who you can play so much as to unclutter the depth chart displays where you can see a bunch of players that you would never put into a position intentionally.
