Kickoff Returns too high - BPFL & Gamma

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
The average kickoff return in the BPFL is currently 25.8 yards and Gamma's all time average is 25.5 .

The NFL has never been higher than 22.8 over the past decade and averages out around 22.3 for the period.

Not sure why but it's too high right now in the SIM.

I suspect it's because we don't really have an efficient way of putting the best special teams units on the field.

I know that what I do is put backups in everywhere I can to avoid injuries to key players on special teams and get playing time for reserves.

I could not begin to tell you how much this negatively impacts my team's ability to stop long returns or get them to happen.

I don't think NFL teams use their key players on special teams either so I'm not sure if that's enough to account for a 12-15% difference.

Maybe but I'm wondering if there is a code issue.

This is fortunately a fairly simple adjustment. There is a "base" minimum return on kickoffs; the shorter the kick is, the smaller the base is. So simply shaving 3.5 yards off that base should bring these numbers in line.
