Defense?

September 17, 2011 at 08:46PM View BBCode

I give up on trying to figure out how to defend. I have one of the best defensive units in the league on paper and yet in Week 1 I give up 63 points.

Nuts.

I'm not looking forward to trying to stop that team next.

Maybe it's due to his awesome OL?

The passing games are really amped up now. League rating is over 100 this year so far.

I've been drafting for speed in the secondary, just to keep up.

That was what I was looking at in my "Balancing the Sim" thread...the main reason is a drop in interceptions/increase in interceptions...we started too low, but now we're way too high..

We add to that the sudden increase in "dodges a tackle". Now it seem that it doesn't matter what defense we call, and even if we make the right call chances are good that a tackle will be dodged.

What we are seeing is length of the field drives and there seems to be no defensive answer to stop the drive.
I believe the "drive killers" were built into the player stamina. Our group of testers (for the most part) use sufficient sub out percentages thus eliminating the old drive killers like turnovers and penalties that we used to see in the red zone when teams got tired.

I've beefed up the creation of defensive players but that won't help existing leagues. I'm looking at the actual formulae now.

Calgary and LV just managed to play a thrilling defensive battle, 10-9:

So it's still possible.

We were only held under 20 twice last season, once by Calgary. He's doing something awfully right.

Unfortunately, more awful than right so far.

The pendulum has swung way too far in the direction of offense, through 8 weeks there are 13 qualified QBs with passer ratings over 100, and 12 of 16 teams have ratings over 100.

In my last game the opposition was "under pressure" or "heavy pressure" on 18 of 25 passing plays and we sent blitz packages 16 times, yet there were no sacks and they completed 22 of 25 passes.

At this point I think it's safe to say that defense is just not able to stop offense unless the weather is a factor.

I think that says it all
