Washington has switched P Pablo Smith with P Edwin Jackson as the player to receive 5 CPs this season.

(4/1/1990 A trade has been completed between the Washington Beltways and the Minnesota Ka-Zars. The Minnesota Ka-Zars receive Pablo Smith from the Washington Beltways in exchange for Edwin Jackson WASHCP1.)

I'm glad you explained how that works cause I was about to post my confusion. It looked like you guys had swapped prospects haha

I wonder if I'll live to see the day when the Red Sox agree to train Yankee prospects in return for future considerations  The whole notion of CP trades just tosses any pretense of reality out the window. Why it's allowed in the game is beyond me.

Gator

It is just a work around from the idea that you can only develop X number of guys in the minors simultaneously. While I am not a fan, I will utilize while it is available, and don't blame anyone else who does.

If we could trade CPs, it would be the same thing.

As far as training other team's players, refer to the Kansas City Athletics of the 1950's, who were owned by someone who was in debt to the Yankees, and served as a de facto AAAA team for the club.

So I guess I shouldn't offer you XX for some CPs, huh?

I'm not a big fan of the "work around", it just smacks of gaming the system. If guys don't like System 2 why not switch to System 5 which allows far more flexibility in developing prospects.

I tend to like simulation games I play to mirror the real life game as closely as possible. I appreciate your KC example ;) but I'll just go with it's not a normal practice in MLB :)

"So I guess I shouldn't offer you XX for some CPs, huh?"

That would be a good guess I guess :) Besides, I haven't seen many CP trades where the guy giving up the CP's is getting fair value for what he's giving up. They usually just involve Robot having his lunch money stolen again

Agree, not a large fan of workarounds. But when they started being done, I adapted, rather quickly.

If you have a weak minor league system, it is a way to take advantage of your weakness. When the Gothams were good no one was doing this, but I was putting points on guys who couldn't play, as all my prospects, pciks, were being dealt each year for stretch run help.

I like Sim Dynasty, but this is a long way for simulating real life as well. So I manage this to win this..

I think SD does about the best job I've seen so far getting it real for a game like this. ABE gets a little loony at times but it usually falls within the realm of it "could" happen. They also get most of the rules right in trying to sim the real game. CP trading is the one thing that's nowhere close to anything real baseball. It just sticks out as being totally weird. Oh well...it's a hole in the game, go with it.

Nor is how the minor league system works with SD, Gator. Do you really think that real MLB teams only coach 4-5 prospects and let the others develop on their own? That's essentially what's happening here on SD.

This in mind, I've never really complained about the CP system, though there are times when I'd like to be able to distribute just 5 more CPS now and then. However, when my teams are doing well and competitive, I rarely have trouble distributing CPs to real prospects. It's when I'm rebuilding and getting higher draft picks that's generally when CPs start to get tight.

For sure the SD approach to minor league development isn't MLB-like. I think though it's a pretty creative approach to achieving an outcome that simulates what's produced and actually makes it to the majors.

That said, I think System 2 is flawed and like most everyone else I don't like the 5 CP cap and having to distribute 20 among 4 or 5 players. As you said it's a serious handicap when you're in rebuilding mode.

System 5 is a far superior system in my opinion. We have it in another league I'm in and we just voted to use it in another. With this system you can get more IC's deeper than just your top 4 or 5 prospects, and also not have them wasted on guys you have just to fill out the roster, or older guys you may be carrying just for insurance.

From the Help Guide:
System 5

This system is kind of a mix of System 2 and System 3. You assign CPs from 15 to 1. You are in effect ranking your minor leagues from best prospsect (15), to worst prospect (1). After each game, each team will receive 4 Improvement Chances (ICs). Three improvement chances are awarded based on the number of CPs you have on the player. The 4th IC has an equal chance of being awarded to any player on your minor league roster. The table below shows how many ICs you can expect over the course of the season from each CP level and assumes you have only 15 minor leaguers. If you have more than 15 minor leaguers, these extra players with 0 CPs on them will only be eligible for that 4th IC. As a rule of thumb, each extra player takes away about 10 ICs over the course of the season from your top 15 prospects.
CPs ICs
15 69
14 67
13 65
12 61
11 56
10 51
9 46
8 41
7 37
6 33
5 29
4 27
3 25

I look at CP trades like "cash." In MLB, players are traded, picks are traded, "and cash considerations."

I just heard about a System 6, which removes the requirement of at least 4 points on either Pitchers or Batters.

Interesting point of view... and I can kind of follow it. Especially if it's a one-year deal.
