I really don't understand

Can someone explain why my defense cannot stop pass plays it knows are coming and gives up massive YAC over and over ... while my receivers so rarely even try to break tackles.
This game against Houston, we were playing the pass on virtually every down, but he completed almost everything anyway. Then time after time, it's my MLB (a 94 tackler) trying to stop a WR, which I don't understand at all, or the two CB (77 and 67 tackling) who are getting burned.
Does the man-to-man vs. zone matter immensely in this? Which one reduces YAC better? Because I'd like to think we'd either reduce completion percentage or YAC with something, but we just get torched on both over and over.

redcped, your comment really ties into my comment on the
The touchdown thing, again . I am not seeing defensive strategy or players having an effect on play outcomes to the degree that they should.
Unfortunately, I am not sure how to quantify the problem.

True. Without seeing tackles or anything that real teams see on video, it is hard to grasp what's happening on defense. I try to think about how real teams watch film and understand why certain plays work or don't work on each side. You can see when the OLB takes a step too far inside thinking a run is coming, then gets beat by the TE by a step on the throw. You can see when the WR just ran a great route and the QB zipped it in there, and it didn't matter if you had 30 guys on defense it was going to be caught.
I just wish I understood in the sim when it's players and when it's tactics that create success/failure a little more often. There's a lot of guesswork in it, and I don't really know if I'm guessing right.
It's a very complicated sim that really does an amazing job. I'm not trying to rip it at all, just looking for ways to make it more workable from a coaching perspective.
I put a lot of time into player evaluation, and I like my team a lot. But after losing to a bad team the week before, then getting crushed like this by a good team ... it makes me wonder how I got off to a good start at all. Some key injuries are hurting, and now with my QB out for 3 weeks it's gonna be ugly, but hopefully I'm giving Chris some idea of what can be frustrating still.

Well put, red.
It's hard to know why plays work or don't. I just try to put the best players on the field. And that's not always clear since most players have strengths and weaknesses and it's hard to determine how a player balances out, especially on D. On offense a WR, QB, RB, etc have stats but on D there's no way to know how a player is performing in his roll.

All 4 Houston receivers could easily win the 4X100 relay gold medal at the next Olympics. Very high ratings in agility and pretty decent at break tkl.

Well, redc, all that cogitating paid off, that thumping the Wagers put on the Spiders was one of the most thorough and excruciating in recent memory.:o The Wagers aren't getting any Xmas cards this yr from Ariz, LV took ALL the names.
As an excuse, the Spiders point to those black'ards from Winnipeg. They pulled a North Dallas 40 on the Ariz starting MLB [out til the end of season]
to secure their win. 8D [NO, great coaching had nothing to do with it!]
The Spiders hope [plead] for an opportunity to rectify these abuses in the post season, FABE willing. :D
