Tough to run

March 22, 2011 at 08:43PM View BBCode

Seems like running games are really struggling in the league so far. I'm averaging 2.9 yards a carry, and that's middle of the pack.

League is averaging 3.2, but I don't know if that's good or bad. It just seems like the totals are low.

Let's give it another game day to give us a few more data points...the good rushing teams could've just had some bad rushing days..

I can go for that ... It was just an early warning, I guess, in case something got changed that caused something else to change.

There are in the league;
11 B+ or better Guards
11 B+ or better tackles
9 B+ or better Centers
6 B+ or better Run blocking FBs

A lot of teams don't have the blocking.

I haven't seen a league yet with much more than that, though.

Good point. Let me look at the initial player creation to see if there's a flaw I missed.

players are all created as college freshmen and then improved to their proper age, so flaws in improvements also will create players with deficiencies.

Yeah..actually...looking back at the preseason, I do have to wonder if maybe things are a bit low..I do think the runs that cost -4 yards are a bit much...maybe decrease those and increase runs for no gain?

Montreal had a 3.1 average through the preseason, but we have a B+ tackle, B+ guard, and an A- center, and an A+ run blocking FB...oh, and an A- blocking TE

I've found some bugs in the O-line; I've rewritten it to get around those bugs, properly take into account the TE for run blocking, and shifted more of the runs to the strong side to take advantage of the TE. I've also removed some bonuses given to the defensive line back when we had the opposite problem of too many ground yards. Testing these changes locally now.

Code updates are up; we will definately want to keep an eye on the run. High-execution/high carry RB's should start to pull away from the pack.

In the last three games we are averaging 4.1 yards per run now, right on target.
