Most and least important positions

March 21, 2011 at 05:24AM View BBCode

Just wanted to get some opinions on what you think the most and least important positions in the sim are as of now.

QB and WR are easily the most important imo. For least important you have the obvious ones like long snapper, fullback etc. but also i think halfbacks arent all that important.

Least - Holder (LOL)
Most - probably QB, which is true in all levels of football

In my limited experience, I have come to think the offensive line is the most important. A great QB without protection doesn't produce as well. And there are always more skilled DE and LB than there are G and T.

DT only needs 3 good skills (str, tkl, Rcov). Although exec & Agr would certainly help. Since linebacker and DE are usually very deep it is easy to make position switch.

Agreed. Plus, you can say the same about a good RB who might not find running lanes.

Holder isn't important, until you miss that SB-winning field goal due to a poor hold. On the other hand, you'll never see someone trash talking after the draft saying "Got my A+ holder, y'all better run and hide!"

Just my humble opinion..

4 Most Important Positions
1. Tackle
2. Cornerback
3. Wide Receiver
4. Guard

4 Least Important Positions
1. Holder
2. Kick Returner
3. Linebacker
4. Running Back

*Only for this game--not for the NFL.

**Positions defined as positions while drafting (so no LS, KRB, etc. included).

I must respectfully disagree here. my OL was drafted last and my QB first, and they dominated, even without the ridiculous screen bugs (I never threw deep very much).

EDIT:
Most important: QB.
Least important: probably H.

The offensive line is definitely very important, but i dont see how you can say its more important than QB. With a great offensive line and below average QB you're pretty much going to suck, with a great QB and below average line you at least still have a chance to be pretty decent.

I can only go by my experience, but my first team went 18-0 with a QB drafted 9th at his position. I had the best G and T. The QB threw for over 5000 yards.

The top QBs taken in that league, guys with 5-figure salaries, put up passer ratings of 60-something.

I'm not saying you should have a bad QB, but the key is scarcity. If there are very few great linemen and several solid QBs, then you need to ask yourself what is worth it to you. If you try to bid for the top QBs, then you need to accept that you'll be weaker somewhere.

Yea i guess it all depends how one interprets 'important'. I was just kind of asking in the general sense, not necessarily on scarcity or what you would bid more on in a draft. Alot of drafts are at least 16 solid QB's deep so sometimes ill bid 0 there and get the last pick, even with doing that i still think QB is the most important position. If your starting QB gets injured for a couple months, usually you're pretty much f'ed.. If your starter at any other position gets injured for a couple months, it hurts a bit but its not really going to make or break your season.

I thought myself the OLine was the factor but it didn't worked fine with me.
I tried to get a good line in the last draft and settled for a low ranked B-/A+ QB, with B exec. The results, so far, are 33 sacks, 5 TDs and 8 INTs, 6 TDs if you count todays first QTR, all with a conservative passing approach, the only one you can set with that kind of QB.
I think I have normally-to-good skilled players all around, both on offense and defense, but I sit at 2-5. I really don't have a clue, but I tend to think that a good line doesn't make up for an unbalanced QB.

I feel like I've had a bit of success in this game (no perfect season yet of course), and I always have a top 3 LT, a top 3 LG, and a top 3 WR. Get your other G and OT in the top 3 as well, and you're set--regardless of who is throwing the ball.

I've had some very good lines with terrible QB's and I was not nearly as successful as with the great QB's and decent lines. I think everyone is focusing on what makes your offense successful, when in reality its what you have in place to stop the offense that wins championships.

Right now I place a huge importance on pass defense. Top 3 corners at the first, second, and third CB spot as well as very good pass coverage safeties.

With that being said, this sim will eventually make running the ball much more advantageous and what is 'most important' will change as the sim changes.
