Draft Order
March 11, 2011 at 10:01PM View BBCode
I'm considering putting together a table with the draft order from the entire draft. Would anyone else be interested in seeing this?

You can view the spreadsheet [url=https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?hl=en&hl=en&key=0AuhkRXDJBsYNdGRITjhPUmlLcVNNMmNVSTNwd25CQ1E&output=html]through this link[/url]. I'm going to go through the draft after it runs and fill in the rest of the grid. If anyone wants to help me out by posting their own draft positions, that would be great. If not, that's fine too.
I'm going to just start with the starting 22. I realize that the 3rd WR, 3rd CB, and 4th LB are probably really important to include as far as depth goes, but I'll start with this and see what happens.

OK, I should have NY and NO in there now. (You can't both be picking 14th at the 1st round of CB's ...)

Can you add a line that shows average draft position for all starters?

Might as well include them. Might be nice to have the whole active roster on there later, just as a reference. Or at least the key backups.

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
So are you saying this is something I should be displaying? :)
What's interesting is your position group averages... I'm working on an alternate "simple" draft system that kind of works like that in reverse, where you set sliders between pairs of options (Offense vs, Defense, backfield vs receivers, etc) and it extrapolates settings for you based on the slider settings.

It's very interesting...and I'm curious to see how different strengths and weaknesses match up against each other throughout the season...especially curious to see if Chicago (all offense, no defense) works out or not.
I can live with the best overall defensive ranking and #4 overall offensive ranking.
(#1 in defensive line, #1 defensive backfield)
What I'm really surprised by is Montreal's Total Rating of 4.8. The next best is Hamilton at 6.2 (Kansas City and Michigan are tied for 3rd at 6.5). Boston's All or Nothing approach didn't appear to work out that well (11.0). The Abusers were just above average at 8.4 (tied for 6th).

OK, the spreadsheet includes the data for the starters on Offense and Defense as well as K/P. The "Total Rating" on the bottom is just an average of your offensive and defensive draft positions. Some positions are probably more valuable than others, but for the sake of keeping this simple, here are some pre-season power rankings:
Montreal - 4.8
Hamilton - 6.2
Kansas City - 6.5
Michigan - 6.5
New York - 8.2
New Orleans - 8.4
Arizona - 8.4
Washington - 9.0
Los Angeles - 9.2
Chicago - 9.2
Anaheim - 9.4
Cleveland - 9.4
Oakland - 9.4
Green Bay - 10.2
Cincinnati - 10.5
Boston - 11

That's what 12 top 3 picks (and 19 top 5 picks) out of 24 starters does for you...see you in the Sim Bowl Hamilton ;)

I think this is pretty interesting.
I'm trying to figure out which teams did not make any changes in bidding.
Looks like LA, Washington, Green Bay, Oakland, Cleveland, Arizona and Anaheim.
At QB, for instance, those teams drafted 10-16
At RB1, they were 7-13
etc.
So bids of even 101 in some categories lifted you above 7 teams. If you bid low but over 100 in many spots and only went under 100 in a few, your ranking will be pretty good.
I would not say this is representative of what to expect in pay leagues, and talent should be more evenly distributed in those leagues.

I don't know, I think that KLKRTR has figured out the system. His drafts have completely dominated in all 3 leagues that we have been in together.
I do agree that you identified the correct teams who did not make any changes.
Poor BOS. He put all that money into his QB and it turns out that BOS is the windiest city in the sim. That's going to be a challenge.
Admin

One of the windiest cities; it's tied with Buffalo, New England (also Boston, really), and New York. The least windy city overall is Sacramento; it 's average wind is 7mph, which is tied with San Diego, Phoenix, Arizona (also Phoenix), and Orlando (and ahead of British Columbia at 6) but its calm percentage is 30%. (Nearby Oakland also has a 30% calm percentage but the average winds there are 8mph.)

Yes, I think that there should be a final draft order page that shows all team's draft positions in a grid format like this. As it is now it is nearly impossible to figure out how well you did in the draft, compared to other teams.
The positional pairings, I think, were fairly intuitive. The slider system would be much easier to do than inputting all of the numbers by hand.

I think you're right about the teams that didn't adjust points....the 101 thing is something I've used a lot of, but that doesn't get you skill positions..just gotta draft to a system.

I messed up with DE but other than that I achieved what I wanted to do with this draft .
I wanted very high picks at QB, #1 RB and both WR positions, which I accomplished, I ignored TE and Backup QB as well as #2 RB . I've had lots of offensive success with a stud HB and a cheap great run blocker for FB
I intentionally ignored LB as an experiment, we'll see how it affects my overall defense

I had set all my positions up for the '61 draft and forgot to reset them for '62. I'm wondering if I should carry over your bid allocation from season to season rather than clearing it.
