Blocked FG

March 03, 2011 at 01:15AM View BBCode

What goes into a blocked FG? I have a FG kicker who is A-,
A+ power, A- accuracy, B- execution. He got a FG blocked at the end of the game to lose the game.

Is it more based on the defense, the offensive line, kicker, or completely random?
Thanks,
KC

Fierld goal or extra point blocking is based on the strength and pass blocking of the offensive line vs. the jumping, strength and agility of the defensive line. It is also based on distance; longer distance kicks have to be kicked at a lower angle and thus are more likely to be blocked.

why the pass blocking of the offensive line, instead of the run blocking?

Also, shouldn't the kicker's attributes be included? If the guy has a powerful leg, he doesn't need to line drive it as much? At least within 35 yards.?

Run blocking is an active form of blocking where you are pushing a defender aside to create a gap for a runner, or provinding a moving screen for a runner. Pass blocking is a passive form of blocking where you become a wall and protect a pocket, so it is more applicable here.

This is all accouted for automatically, but it is purely by distance, and likely to be modified soon for wind. I will probably give the owner more control over this at some point as a strategy setting.

By design, field goals are successfully blocked on about 1 of every 40 field goal kicks, and about 1 out of every 140 extra point kicks.

Chris, I'm not into special teams, just for the sake of discourse, I would think protecting the kicker is more of a proactive run block, than where linemen stand up and scoot back in pass blocking.
At worse I would think a mixture of both.
I could be wrong.

Thanks,
