Fullbacks

Does their blocking make much of a difference or no? Im going to run a pass heavy offense and pondering whether to start a good blocker who cant catch or a guy who cant block but has a chance to catch the ball if it happens to get thrown to him.

In 4 preseason games and 2 regular season games, my starting fullbacks have been targeted a total of 2 times. I am still using the predefined game plans for offense, but even in a pass-heavy offense it doesn't seem like your fullback would get targeted more than once a game or so. I'd look for a guy with good pass-blocking and execution grades before I'd be too concerned with receiving abilities.

in 4 preseason games and 1 reg season, my fullbacks have been targeted for passes twice. so i'd probably go with the blocker.

thanks... still wonder if their blocking even matters much at all though.

It's bold in the FB depth chart, so it matters at least a little. My starting fullback is B- at RB and B+ at FB on the strength of his blocking skills, so I am lead to believe its fairly important.

if it matters that much, im not sure why chris made shotgun passes the default yellow zone strategy instead of regular passes? Which will you get pressured more, in a shotgun set or a regular set with a good pass blocking fullback blocking for you? Also does the halfbacks blocking make any difference when you're in shotgun?

The default yellow zone strategy is probably wrong; I need to go through it again. (This is probably why we are seeing more safeties than usuial.)

I went with a blocker (actually used a TE as he was the best available pass blocker).

In the first quarter of my first game he went for a 77-yard TD run. Go figure.

my fullback in a balanced attack (although I have tweaked percentages so there's a equal chance of plays run/pas)...my fullback gets about 2-3 touches a game. Whether it be screen passes or play action passes or carries up the middle. Good hands and carrying ability I think are important and execution.
