Dropped passes

February 15, 2011 at 03:57PM View BBCode

Part of the issues with the passing game is that too many passes are being dropped. Digging into this, I found that Wide Receiver's Hands are lower across the board than they should be. I traced this back to the initial player creation engine and fixed it, and I've given all Wide Receivers a 10 point boost to get them back to where they are supposed to be.

(i was wodnering why my qb had gone from a competion percentage in the 30's to over 60 in game 3. i had hoped it was because i'd done something smart. i should have known better, obviously.)

I noticed today that most QB's are completing more passes. Good stuff.

It's great until you meet a quarterback that puts up 348 net yards passing over three quarters. That doesn't seem right either.

that depends. if it happens with some regularity, no it isn't. but it is something that happens rarely, so it should happen here with some kind of fequency also.

Yeah, my beta league team has allowed 334 passing yards in 3 quarters, but the other team only has 3 rushing attempts and I am winning 14-10 after creating 3 interception turnovers.

This is the opposing QB:

I think we are going to see a series of corrections on this part of the game among others. It allows me to draft a decent QB in my upcoming draft!

Seems as though passing is still a bit low as far as completion % and still too many drops .... but my offensive players are not stars by any means so it could be just my guys ... any thoughts on this?

yea completion % is still pretty low. I think there should be slightly more short passes being completed but with only like 1-3 yards more after the catch.

Theres a lot of TWEAKS that need to be made in the overall game....And I understand this and that's why I am not on these boards bellyaching like some posts I have read (None of the above) But in regards to the passing.......I have a QB with A+ Acc and all REC with at least A Catch good to great jumping and basically GOOD overall rec skills..(Inc RB) and I have turned my offense to a dink and dunk basically throwing Screens and Short Passes 0-5 yds and I am still only completing 40% or less of passes...I can understand QB's missing the 10-30yd routes more often but when an A+ Acc QB cant complete a Screen Pass there is something wrong......Not Venting.....Just saying....

I would think the execution rating for the players has as much to do with QB's completion % as raw ability to throw.

There will be tweaks, but to some extent the numbers are never going to match up to reality like they do in the baseball sim.

The reason for this is that coaches have near complete control over their team's actions, and they don't have the same incentive to play the way real NFL coaches do. NFL coaches are some of the most conservative folks in the world. Here, owners can try all kinds of wild strategies. An owner can set all of his settings to Long Shotgun and yes, he's going to have more than his share of interceptions and his QB's and WR's will be exhausted, but the "blind squirrel eventually finds a nut" rule will mean that sometimes enough of these passes will connect to get some wild passing numbers. Or he can set his field goal settings to go for 75 yard field goals regularly; he's going to miss a lot and give his opponents awesome field position, but at some point he's going to hit that 75 yard field goal, maybe several times. Kickers in the NFL don't hit 75 yard field goals because they can't, it's because reasonable opportunities to attempt one don't come up often enough to hit one.

The natural tendency is to try to reign in the settings so unrealistic strategies can't be tried, but being unpredictable is part of what the strategies are about, and the more things are tightened up the les room there is to be creative.

So I will tweak and I will try to get it right, but I know there will be unrealistic performances at times too.
