Last second field goal settings question

February 14, 2011 at 03:24PM View BBCode

At the end of the 2nd quarter of [url=http://football.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=1136&thid=117]this game[/url], we returned a punt to our opponent's 27 yard line with 12 seconds left. Really, the logical thing here is to go for the field goal. instead we went with a pass, which got a first down, but time expired!

I think what prevented the field goal attempt from taking place is the line in the Last Second Field Goal settings that says "or 6 or fewer seconds with timeouts remaining". Is my guess right? If so, that 6 should be a variable that coaches can change.

That probably should be a setting... I'll take a look at it. Thanks!

so this same thing happened again: http://football.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=1147&thid=117

with 14 seconds left in the first half on my opponent's 39 yard line and 1 time out remaining, i would have liked to take a field goal. that "or 6 or fewer seconds with timeouts remaining" is really really low. i'd like to be able to set mine for 20, at least for the end of the first half.

Gosh-gdarn it!! It happened again. At the end of the first half in [url=http://football.simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=1183&thid=117]this game[/url], it was 4 and 14 on my opponent's 34, with 28 seconds remaining and 1 time out remaining!! FG was not attempted because (I assume) the "or 6 or fewer seconds with timeouts remaining" statement. Please make that 6 a variable we can control.

i've had a similar situation happen twice, but with just under 25 seconds left and no timeouts

Here's the first instance, regular season game 1:

00:27. 7 10 NO 3/14 NO 30
3rd and 14 for the Cajuns, they line up in a Pro Set; the Wild GreyWolves line up in a 4-3.
Blaine Lomax takes the snap and drops back into the pocket.
Lomax passes to Tyrone Riffle at the NO 47.

The ball is caught at the NO 47 by Tyrone Riffle.

00:15. 7 10 NO 1/10 TUL 23
1st and 10 for the Cajuns, they line up in a Pro Set; the Wild GreyWolves line up in a 4-3.
Blaine Lomax takes the snap, hands off to Ed Fenerty.
Ed Fenerty runs up the right for a short gain.
Time expires before the next play.
00:00 7 10 NO --- TUL 23
End of 2nd quarter.
Tulsa Wild GreyWolves 7, New Orleans Cajuns 10

At the time, my prefs were as follows:

my preference a the time of the second instance was:
"At the end of the first half, on any down, with less than 25 seconds remaining and no time outs remaining (or 6 or fewer seconds with timeouts remaining), and within 30yards of the goal line and the estimated chance of making a field goal is at least 50%, attempt a field goal."

That game was a little windy : "Clear, 73°F, wind 10 MPH to the west " With 15 seconds left, the no-timeots-left rule should be in effect. Because of the wind, i could maybe see a FG from 40 yards being below 50%, but i'd still like to try it, and lowered the 50% to 40%.

Here is the following game, just before halftime:

00:32. 7 14 NO 2/10 CLE 38
2nd and 10 for the Cajuns, they line up in a Shotgun; the Thunderstrike line up in a 4-3.
Blaine Lomax takes the snap and drops back into the pocket.
Lomax is under pressure.
Lomax passes to Jim Groth at the CLE 22.
The ball is caught at the CLE 22 by Jim Groth.
Pass by Blaine Lomax is completed to Jim Groth for a 14 yard gain.
First down for the New Orleans Cajuns!

00:23. 7 14 NO 1/10 CLE 23
1st and 10 for the Cajuns, they line up in a I Formation; the Thunderstrike line up in a 4-3.
Blaine Lomax takes the snap, hands off to Ed Fenerty.
Ed Fenerty runs up the right for a 2 yard gain.

00:12 7 14 NO 2/7 CLE 21
2nd and 7 for the Cajuns, they line up in a Field Goal/PAT; the Thunderstrike line up in a Field Goal/PAT Block.
Morten Corcoran prepares to attempt a field goal for New Orleans, Blaine Lomax holding.
Time expires before the snap.
00:00 7 14 NO --- CLE 21
End of 2nd quarter.
Cleveland Thunderstrike 7, New Orleans Cajuns 14

my preference a the time of the second instance was:
"At the end of the first half, on any down, with less than 25 seconds remaining and no time outs remaining (or 6 or fewer seconds with timeouts remaining), and within 30yards of the goal line and the estimated chance of making a field goal is at least 40%, attempt a field goal"

This time the weather was better, "Conditions: Clear, 62°F, wind 4 MPH to the northeast ", so j have a hard time thinking that my field goal odds for a 40 yard FG were below 40%.

Here's the kicker:
http://football.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=51884

perhaps the logic predicting the odds of a field goal could be the problem?
