Patriots

July 01, 2010 at 09:24PM View BBCode

I used to be huge into the Red Sox until they won the World Series. Now the passion is kinda gone for baseball.

So let's talk some Patriots.

They have a tough schedule this year, but I just really can't imagine them not being better than last year despite the injury to Welker. The young defense is a year older, and I liked the TEs they drafted.

Yeah, it seems they are starting to prime themselves for another big run, I honestly would love to believe they are a top superbowl contender but right now it's questionable, a lot of questions with the young defense and IMO the running game just isn't that great, we'll see what happens, they should be better and should be right in it as always though

Heard on the radio today that Welker may be ready for the regular season. That would be great.

I know I'm biased, but I just don't see the defense being as bad as it was last year now that the young guys are a year older and Belichick is getting personally involved. And although the injury to Welker and Moss's age are definitely concerns, I feel like Brady will be better after a full year back from the injury and the passing game will be more balanced with some talent at TE.

I hope so, to all your thoughts, I feel the same way but they need a real running game, no more of this 4 running back rotation, they are all either injured or just don't do very well, 1 of them will have a good game here and there but if Maroney doesn't prove his worth this year I'd hope they'd go in another direction

I think Maroney has had enough time to show what he can do and he hasn't been of much help. They need an impact kind of runner but haven't obtained any in the draft.

it's hard to question them with all the success they've had, it's just other then when Dillon was there they haven't had a great running game, the numbers look ok but when you look at it the big numbers come in blowouts or against horrible defensive teams

I know. I hope that Welker can be back for the season or at least most of the season because that'll be a big hole at WR and with Moss past his prime, the Pats' passing game will be less powerful with few good targets for an aging Tom Brady to throw to. Maroney has yet to show what he can do and probably shouldn't get another chance. We need to rely on our defense.

Well, I was wrong. The defense IS worse. We lost two of our best defensive players for the season in Leigh Bodden and Ty Warren. This is the worst defense of the Belichick era BY FAR.

nahh the defense isnt that bad actually, they are very young, very young, they will continue to grow throughout the year

Are you serious? Yeah, they are young, but they are terrible. They're not bad in a "this defense has great talent but they're making a lot of rookie mistakes" way. They are a bad in a "this defense has very little talent" kind of way.

Spikes, Mayo, Meriweather, Chung, Butler, McCourtney, Wilfork, James Sanders isn't bad, Banta-cain, Cunningham and Crable have talent, Guyton, it's not a defense with no talent, it's a defense that's developing, also, Ron Brace in the mix, they are gonna have a lot of growing pains but they have a few future pro bowlers in there, the biggest need on defense right now is the D line IMO, it's Wilfork, Brace is developing a bit, Ty Warren is hurt, I'm sure they'll add some more depth, but they have a good young defensive unit developing right now

So the defense, they really suck :)

Yeah, Hillis ran right over them. I'm actually more concerned about the offense lately though. Receivers don't seem to be able to get any separation.

lol you jump back on here after they lose to the Browns but completely ignore the way they shut down every other back lately.

We knew this would happen when Moss was traded, until Tate becomes a deep threat it's gonna be a lot like their old offense, except they have more weapons now with their TE's

Nah dude, the defense really is bad. They are last or close to last in the league in every statistical category. In fact, during today's game they put up a graphic showing that this is statistically the worst Patriots defense EVER. No lie. It's great they're winning games though, so can't complain too much.

lol if you call an 89 rating and 64% choking and a screen pass pick choking then alright, or you could just take credit that your jets team is a good defense and played really well, but if you want to admit they couldn't stop Brady if he had his best day then ok :)

Meh, just shows how much I pay attention to the Patriots. Aaron Hernandez was wearing some new shiny bracelets this morning.

Sadly, The Insane Hobo Genius Coach will find a way to dominate with a TE no one outside Massachusetts has ever heard of, or come up with a new scheme that can't be figured out till 2015.
