Should we have attempted a FG here?

05:27.
DET 4/10 BIR 31
4th and 10 for the Death, they line up in a Punt Spread Wing; the Vulcans line up in a Punt Return.
Austin Foley kicks a 16-yard punt angled toward the left.
Kick hang time: 2.48 seconds.
The ball goes out of bounds at the BIR 19.
A solid 12 yard punt!
A 5mph wind, from the 31... that should be a 46 yard attempt no? Also, I assume this would come later, but if thats out of the range, I'd rather go for it then a 12 yard punt!

I've been seeing quite a few short punts in my game, too. I'd assume it's because of the 15mph wind and rain, but still, three quarters in and there've been 4 or 5 punts for less than 20 yards. That seems like a lot, doesn't it?

My kicker is 2/2 with a 43 & a 44 yarder. I mean, you would think we would at least take a shot at the 46. Let me dig through my settings and see if I missed something there.

Ah:
Previous Setting:
If within
40 yards of the goal line and the estimated chance of making a field goal is at least 75%, attempt a field goal
I am changing that to 40 yard with 50% chance of making. That would mean that if there is a 50/50 shot at ~55 yard field goal, take the chance.
That suits me better. We will see how that works out.

Field Goal distance is line of scrimmage plus 17 yards, not 15 .

Punts are still being cheated out of 4.5 yards in actual field position; I've fixed the bug but hadn't uploaded it from the dev server to the beta server yet. I just upladed it now.
Also, if you see the "angle" message on punts, your kicker is deliberately kicking shorter to keep from going in the end zone. In addition, your punt startegy is probably set for higher, shorter punts as you get closer to the end zone. Those out-of-bounds punts also will cause you to lose distance; they are probably aimed at the 10 but go out-of-bounds earlier. If you want longer punts, take a look at your punt strategy settings and adjust them closer to 0. (0=low long punts, 100=high short punts.)

CC, I think that you were 1 yard shy of what would have been "FG range" by your settings in both situations you posted above. I was a bit shocked at them myself.

Ham - Those were the default settings. I haven't tinkered with anything yet. The change that I now have is the first one that I have done.
TR - thanks for clearing that up. I had thought that the endzone was 10 + a 5 yd hold, not 7. I was basically guessing. Now I know!
Chris - I like the idea of shorter out of bounds punts. It was more that I was surprised that my kicker wasn't attempting 46 yarders. I now understand that it wasn't above 75% chance of going in. I'm more of a gambler when it comes to FGs, so lowering that % makes sense for me.
